mrvip
Did anyone go to the grand opening of the Empire Ballroom afterhours event last night? Any comments? Will this replace Drai's?
vegasguy25
A couple friends of mine went, and they said it was packed. As far as it replacing Drai's though, I think that Drai's has become such an institution that it would have to close in order for something to truly replace it. MysticRain
It will not replace us....like I have said before we have many loyal followers who will continue to visit us. I will say that Empire may become strong and may have a better chance the the others who have tried to be afterhours and failed.
mrvip
I think the new afterhours at Empire Ballroom and Forty Deuce will both succeed, but mainly Empire, because they are both ran by Gino. Besides, Empire Ballroom is a perfect location for such an event to take place. I said before in a post that free-standing nightclubs don't have a chance to compete with nightclubs that are in casinos. As far as afterhours, I think that a free-standing venue is the best location.
lalate
Afterhours is very unique, in some respects, complex scene, that is truly propelled by clubgoer loyalty. I can site examples of countless people I have met this fall alone that will tell you they will recognize at least 100-200 faces every week start at the same 4 am afterhours spot, move to the next 8 am spot, and be ready to continue at the 2 pm spot. If your business is targeted to any of those slots, you really need loyalty, because the same clique will be moving from spot 1 to spot 2 to spot 3 as a group most of the time. mrvip
The word is that the scene was like old-school Utopia from a few years back. This scene, in fact, has a niche that will appeal to a great number of clubgoers, myself included, from the days of Utopia and Glo at the Hop. Perhaps this is what Las Vegas has been missing for so long. An afterhours that starts when the sun is beginning to rise, and ends when the sun is bright the next morning. Something like a NY or Miami has to offer. I'm not a fan of Drais(No offense to anyone who works there - just my personal preference) because A) its too red/bright in there the music is average at best C)there's no room to dance. I know tons of tourists flock there every weekend - but there are only in a few days a year and up to this point there haven't been many other options. Vegas definitely needs something different that is local friendly - and I've heard that is what they are shooting for. With Farsheed (Vegas's #1 House DJ -without a doubt) and them bringing in Big Dj's like Boris this weekend - I think they'll do really wellBTW presales for Boris this weekend dropped down to $30 - maybe some of the bitching on here helped
