dafagbuster
he's completely right and on point! How many black and latino kids do you see in rave's strung out on "E" and acting like the fools that they are? It is a white thang without a doubt. Very few to none people of color attend and support cheezy trance music and it's scene. And thats a fact! the truth hurts and you guys cant seem to handle it! back2basics
JoelS exactly, he is the epitome of commercialism. Who is he trying to fool, all that disco stuff was sickening then he bangs out a hip hop album to try an turn his image around then comes out with hypocritical things like this. back2basics
What the hell is up with Armand @ the moment, firstly he plays Hip Hop to space, then goes about doing "lack luster" sets @ all his Ibiza nights and getting paid big $$$. Then he comes out with crap like this.....ARMAND SLAMS 'HEARTLESS' TRANCEArmand Van Helden has lashed out at the sound of the Gatecrasher generation claiming trance is 'heartless' and 'racially white'. Despite predictions that UK Garage would usurp last summer's dancefloor and chart phenomenon, trance has enjoyed yet another Top 10 hit this week with Storm's 'Time To Burn'.Following a brief aside at the genre in a recent dotmusic interview, we again caught up with Armand Van Helden, this time in Ibiza, and he further explained his theory."I'm not a fan of trance," he said. "I just can't figure it out and the main thing that bothers me with trance is that it's so racially white. I've never come across anything that white in my life. Country music, American, western country music, at least has white and black artists. Trance is just so white and I don't like anything that's all black either."Discussing the rise of trance in the States, Armand painted a picture of a scene dominated by bodybuilders: "In America it's predominantly white, like 99 per cent. The crowd gets violent, if someone pushes them the wrong way or steps on their foot there's a fight. If you go to a trance club in America you see quite a lot of fights 'cause they're all wired up and they're just ready to beef."Earlier, in a dotmusic interview, he had described the music as 'heartless': "Trance is just heartless, straight up. Trance culture is everything but culture clash, in other words it just teaches you 'brainwash the young, immerse them in a white frame of mind give them trance, feed them trance and don't let them experience anything else to the left or the right.'"Good publicity, or just a silly comments?------------------I want to go out blazing not fade away.I can resist anything but temptation. thomaskm1
The whole idea behind his latest PR campaign has been to stir up controversy. From his album cover, to making homemade porn to busting on trance. He is a punk, semi-educated, and the press is all over anything he says. Different strokes fuel different fokes, so what, everyone has a sound to voice their beliefs and move their feet. Fuck'em, anyone who hates is a racist, Armand included. Glad I didn't buy his album or support/play/review/promote it on the site and I won't. parish
JoelS
I love this other comment: "Trance is just heartless, straight up. Trance culture is everything but culture clash, in other words it just teaches you 'brainwash the young, immerse them in a white frame of mind give them trance, feed them trance and don't let them experience anything else to the left or the right.'"It's true that it is a little bit silly for a dj who's gonna completely commercial to diss commercial trance. He should go back to what was Trance a few years back, when it was mainly German and North European, a very interresting and innovative kind. Too bad it has been played out. Maybe it will go back to originality and creativity but I don't think it will, it's too late. The racial comment is a little bit silly, it's kind of true socially but it doesn't mean anything about the creativity of trance artists.Check the complete interview at www.dotmusic.com Plur,Joël S.
