Space security ruins a perfect night..

So sometime after 2am, I was chiling in the vip signing some autographs, so then, I go to the bathroom.

The upstairs bathroom.

As I walk in, i'm taking a piss, and all of sudden I hear this comotion behind me. I look back and a security gaurd is busting down the door of the stall. He bangs on it, and then he gets it open. There is a poor kid in there, who is taking a dump. His pants are down by his ankles and hes doing nothing wrong. The security guys thought he was doing drugs. Fine then, check him out and then shut the door. But see they didn't. They made this poor kid take a dump for at least 3 mins with the door open. To me ( a bouncer of 3 years)  the kid was doing absoultely nothing wrong. The one security guy walked away, he looked like the puerto rican guy on Thrid Watch (the cop), tall about 6'2 or so. But the other asshole who looks exactly like Jhonny Cochran and was wearing a black suit stood there and embarassed this poor sole. So everyone in the bathroom, who saw this, was yelling at security to leave him alone. I was the closeest to this and i started to run my mouth. This guy was wayyyyyyyyyyy out of line. The security guy didn't acknowlege any of us. I called him an asshole. Yes Jhonny Cohran security guy, that was me, the club legend.. You were wayyyyyyyyy out of line... If you did that to me, or one of my friends, you would be out on the ground.

Two things you should have learned being a bouncer.

1. you never know whos watching

2. you never know who you are fucking with ..

I told the kids  in the bathroom to read this board and to post what happened. I hope they do. You are lucky I didn't write an official review, I could get your name in a matter of mins and post it. So oscar, biz, eddy, coly, roland, lp it was a sick sick sick night at space, one of the best ever.. I'm gonna come out more often, but if the glove fits, you can't aquit.. Disipline your security guys..

The security @ Space sometimes think that they are above the law trying to intimidate a clubber who comes to a Venue to have a nught of fun. I seen them push people around in the dancefloor for not getting out the way. Have they ever heard of excuse me, someone needs to discipline these suckers to understand what they are there for to provide security not to govern the venue like dictators.

By the way Saleen when you were a bouncer back in the days were u like Patrick Swayze in Roadhouse.

the place i worked was just like roadhouse, it was in NC.. called Pantan Bobs, or Pbs.... 5 fights a night, some major league 20+ person brawls, a stabbing and I quit after I got a gun pulled on me... Wasn't worth it, also under law a bouncer is fucked, they have zero rights to touch anyone.. But according to the police statments everyone that got banged up by a bouncer "tripped" ;)

a coupld bouncers went to jail for 20years..

Man, what is WITH the bouncers around here lately? Anybody who hasn't seen it, check out the drama in bed thread, about a bouncer at BED on the beach with similar scary power issues.

Thank you for posting that, Saleen. That bouncer at Space knew that the kid would be too embarrassed to come forward and tell his story but he wasn't counting on somebody like you being there. These stories need to be told.

Being a bouncer isn't easy, and I certainly crossed the line as a wild 21 year old college kid. I use beat people up for the fun of it as a bouncer.

However, Space cleary is in the right direction over there with their door guys and security... But things like this remind of us of the real shitty days... With new clubs comming, look for a better product all around. simple pure competitive market economics...

THERE are laws against this....I've heard of cases where people made some serious $$ settling cases against venues with absurdly agressive bouncers. If the boy who this happened to is reading this, you should contact an attorney in your area (there are plenty who would take this case and not charge you, only take a cut of the settlment) --- clearly there were witnesses --- this kind of behavior is against the law, and you could easily file a case and they would fire the bouncer who did this and settle. Get the press involved too, then other people will come forward with experiences there, and there would be a major overhaul in how the policy of how they treat their customers.

And for the Space staff who read this: be very weary of how you far you permit your bouncers to have their little power trips...this is a major liability...

Venues in NYC have learned, as of late, that treating people with respect and being cordial goes a long way....makes the experience so much better!

PS, if any of your staff ever did that to me, I'd never let you let you forget it, nor would my terrific attorney. I'd have a civil case filed within 24 hours. I hope this comes back to haunt you!

Although then you'll just cut your losses by making more events 18 and over to get in....

for the record, I personaly don't belive in sueing anyone for anything.. Unless it's severe. I would just go on with my life, but at the time, i would have dropped him.

Space is aware of it, and i'm sure there is his side of the story, but from my perspective, he was out of line...

suing for petty things, like hott McDonalds coffee in your lap is BS....i agree, but sometimes bring a lawsuit (which can be settled) can change policies and amend the way people think or act....and bouncers need to be trained not to act like this....they need to know there are repurcussions AND big reparations for their actions. my brother was a big juicehead in college, and would kick the shit out of people for petty things in bars...Its just not right, and more and more venues are getting smacked with civil suits and such for their bouncers getting out of hand.

That lady in the McDonald's lawsuit had third-degree scald burns actually. Sounds silly but she really was pretty badly injured and it was McDonald's fault.

Bad PR is an effective weapon against this sort of thing. The fear that somebody like Saleen might be standing around to witness and tell people about it the next time something like this happens should be enough to ensure that this sort of episode will be a fluke and not the norm. This thread and the one about the drunk bouncer at BED with a gun have gotten an awful lot of page views.

"for the record"....seems like you're backpedaling a bit here....dont worry, they wont ban you from space. ;) they should just fire their arrogant out of line bouncer.  Period.  If this were in NYC I'd investigate and write up a story on it right now, and if it were a trend like it seems to be in miami, id definitely pitch the idea to colleagues at some periodicals here in new york---like you said, it gets a lot of reads...

I concur....but I dont think you really could have seen it any other way. you saw what you saw, plain and simple, and posted it...it's pretty cut and dry to me. There is no excuse for ever doing such a thing....that is a nightmare.

like we'd ever hear an explanation for that. I'd be impressed if someone of authority from the venue responded to this.

And Ryan, the woman definitely got burned, so sue for damages and some more to play with....but she claimed severe mental damage as well....she even claimed she had hot coffee nightmares and couldnt go to work anymore.  Come now, that is ridiculous.  I have transcripts from that case (from a paper I did in a law class a few years back) and that was the basis for my argument---so dumb (not you, the woman)
