Here is what I've been told...

There will be about 3 clubs there, maybe even more.

LP's will be on the "commercial tip" while the NYC guys who are "twilo clubbers" will open a club aswell. A couple lounges etc. Besides that I don't know much else, but someone who posts on this board, took all the club owners out to sobe 2 weeks ago, so that person if they choose to can post the real deal...

but what I do know is, that south beach is over as we know it...

the city is to blame, the people are to blame, the lack of english and respectable behavior is to blame, and the cities open arms policy toward hip hop will forever make south beach a place where middle class american will NOT go to spend their dollars.

Yeah those articles mention 8 clubs there.

The Ault guy from ny is opening two lounges and spent tons of cash on both, Gryphon and Pangaea.

There is one called club orchid and another Passion.

The rest seems like lil bar type places which should be fun as well.

I don't think sobe is dead. I don't see any big clubs working there other then mansion, but it should do ok with the upscale lounges and hotel bars. Different scene, but those may work especially since downtown does not offer any lounges other then grass in the art district. Wash. ave and the rest of sobe should also do pretty decent with the hip hop thing. I don't like what I see for sobe and I won't be there, but can't say I see it being dead and not having its customer base.

Downtown should do fine with nocturnal opening up and space still being as strong as ever in terms of numbers going to the club. Two strong clubs and empty one don't make much of club row though, but noticed that new bar last time I went to space and hopefully a couple other things open up in the area and they kinda clean up at least the block where the clubs are at.

The seminole place looks the most interesting to me, but it is a far drive that i don't think much of dade will do. Not that they couting on much of dade county to support that scene really. Luckily I'm only about 20 minutes away which is about as far as downtown so all the same to me and I'll be at whichever has the better events.

A Casino in the middle of the woods wont do anything to South Beach or downtowns nightlife.......pluuueezz try again. Going to Broward to party sucks anyway....Miami is where its at.

You never know Luis, don't knock it yet, 5 years ago who would have ever thought that downtown would have 3 clubs and a sports bar with more on the way. Remember that population wise, Florida is growing at an exponential rate. Miami is saturated, so many are moving to less populated areas. If that area in Broward is well built and marketed, people will come. Remember you have those in WPB and North Ft Laud that do not want to drive all the way down to Miami to party. As far as Sobe goes, I don't think it's dead though, it's infested with crappy bling bling gold teeth phony hip-hop and ghetto jackasses, but it's not dead. It will always have its following.

Well it all depends now in days you cant just build a club and expect it to be a huge success. if they market it right then it can go good for them. But I dont think it will hurt the South Beach and Downtown nightlife.

The good thing is having choices to go but if the people will make the proper choice to see quality residents and guest then they will have to come downsouth. Broward still has a lot of work to do.

Right now its too soon to tell if these venues will even have an impact.

After reading the article, I'm convinced that this area will definitely be successful. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind. Whoever is opening a club there had the right idea. The restaurants and lounges will create the traffic needed to make the clubs a success. All they really need at this point are good DJ's. People really do want an alternative to South Beach. Stop looking at the fact that it's up north. Broward and WPB are populated enough to pack those clubs and create a huge following. They won't need to lure clubgoers from Miami. Look at the big picture people, that's all you have to do and you'll understand.

I'd bet you money that 40% of all people in space are from broward or wpb... I drive to sobe and miami all the time, but dade peeps will reluctantly leave to come to broward, face it, the latins don't leave miami because 51% of them can't speak english!!!!!! They are poor, non english speaking immigrants. Thus who gives a fuck if they come up here, they will just walk around and not spend money. Remember now, miami ranks almost last for poverty %.. They are that bad.

Lauderdale and downtown miami and hollywood will crush sobe...

Barriers to entry. <<< go read a book on the subject and you'll understand that sobe has no shot at being successful. It's like buidling a minor league stadium next to yankee stadium.

Ok, so a couple of Wednesdays ago (IMO the best night on the beach) I took out the guys behind Pangea and Gryphon to introduce them to some of our local club owners, promoters and dj's. The long night began early at The Forge and proceeded to Amika and Cafeteria (of course!)

IMO there is a lot of potential behind the Hard Rock Hotel, Casino and its surroundings. South FLA is growing faster then we imagine so there is definitely room for more clubs in other areas (especially with a 24 hour liquor license and gaming license). I would definitely keep my eyes open for things that will be going on in Seminole Land, especially when all the nighclubs open their doors. I trust the people behind the scenes there (LP and Michael Ault to name a few) and know that they wouldn't be wasting their time and money if the area didn't have any type of potential.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Some info on Pangea and Gryphon from the press release:

Legendary New York nighlife impresario Michael Ault launches exclusive 24-hour lounge and nightclub in Hollywood, FL, creating the first round-the clock scene for Miami hipsters

Located in the epicenter of the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino's Paradise Live! entertainment complex, Pangea lounge and the Gryphon nighclub will redefine the South Florida nightlife landscape. Created by famed nighclub impresario Michael Ault; SpyBar, Chaos (Soho, South Beach, San Paolo) Tatou (NYC, Aspen, Beverly Hills) Merc Bar, Pangea(NYC, London, Marbella), who has been called "the heaviest name in the party industry," by the New York Daily News, and "the king of New York nightlife", by Variety, Pangea and Gryphon are set to deliver the ultimate nightlife experience. The lounge and nighclub wil be a successful mix of two sensational yet distinctive comcepts transformed into one vibrant nighspot, including extraordinary and sexy decor, world-renown DJ's, spectacular dancers, hosts of precussionists, and state-of -the art sounds and lights.

Pangea and Gryphon will offer an unparalleled experience in quintissential South Beach and New York style, sure to draw the A-list of celebrities flocking to Miami year-round. The central location between South Beach, Ft. Lauderdale and Hollywood, will catapult Pangea and Gryphon to THE destination for jet - setters and nighclub revelers craving a cutting-edge club with world-class DJ's.

Pangea's beautifully finished interior will reflect East African roots within an enourmous Safari tent, adorned with authentic skulls and artifacts. From the DJ booth elevated above the back bar, musical sets will include international lounge beats, and house accompanied by live rythims of Congo drums, tambourines and maracas.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Pangea and Gryphon are expected to open in early November.

Things "could" get interesting up there during WMC 2005 .... :-X

there you go sports fans... the saleen isn't the only one in the know around these parts...

thanks D, ps that flyer last week was distrubing, I think the lets and arms were cut off of it..

LOL i can't stop laughing for some reason....LOL

Ok, let me explain, the flyer was to promote a photography exhibit/event our magazine (LOFT) is sponsoring. The picture is one of the pieces to be displayed. Yes the arms and legs being cut off looks a bit scary, wait till you see the other works of art with "certain" body parts missing. :-\

"The Illusions Of Reality"

The event by the way was postponed due to Frances to this Thursday. Anyone interested in attending here is the info:

Thanx for the scoop. I'm looking forward to the area and even if it does not bring out 2 much people from dade it will do very well. I went about a month ago to the casino and it was packed with tourists. This is without the rest of the area being complete yet, so I expect more and more tourists and the broward and wpb crowd to go there if they put on solid events. With the people involved in this it seems like thats taken care of though.

Let us know when you got updates on up there again and props with the magazine. Every once in a while I check it out and was surprised a couple months ago to see an article about Haiti in there with some nice photos, but the article itself coulda been better. Still great magazine though.

Thanks for the complements and feedback. I do agree that certain things/articles could be better but the mag is growing and I do believe we're getting better and wiser as we grow and learn from past mistakes.

PM me your address and I'll send you a complementary Sept. issue which looks great. Let me know what you think once you read it. Feedback is always welcome.
