Two articles about hard rock casino's plans

My take is that the area will primarily attract WPB and Broward clubgoers obviously. In addition, I see them playing it safe in DJ bookings, themes, and so forth. While it will be nice to have something up there, the area is very white-bread and corporate, and I don't see anything innovative happening up there until it gets developed and tried in Miami first.

Will it hurt the Miami scene? Not likely. Is it a good thing for up there? Yeah it is right up their alley. The polo-shirt wearing SUV driving crowd is gonna be all over this. Think The Hamptopns.

You'll have this area for your more upscale crowd, and Miami, specifically downtown since the beach is going to fall by the wayside in nightlife will be down n dirty. ;D

That's the thing. Most Miami-based clubgoers think it is a trek to go from Kendall to the beach or downtown. These venues are gonna primarily be oriented to the tourist crowd and the Broward WPB local crowd.

Hell I'm a perfect example. I can't really justify going up there unless it is for a good reason.

I've met the parties behind three of the venues up there, and it does look like they've got a coherent game plan of sorts. The tourist market factors in heavily. I'm sure they will enjoy a good run of it up there.

My question is, this is a 24-hour district, adjoined to a fairly civil place....I'm wondering what the plans are concerning the inevitable tourist complaints of "those dirty clubgoers" wandering around during daylight hours...?

Exact thoughts. I can't see people that live in kendall or coconut grove that would do that drive enough to support that area. They are gonna rely on the broward/wpb crowd but mostly tourists. Normally, I would discard it as a pleasure island type area that orlando has but thankfully it is not as there is a great team behind these parties that will put on serious parties.

Regardless I should be there every once in a while especially if LP lets roly/og play up there at his club. I'm also hoping they bring in some outside djs that can play a different type of set then what they normally play at space or sobe. I caught danny howells earlier this year for example in orlando and I loved his set whereas the last couple of times I had heard him at space did not enjoy it much. Don't know why they always play "darker" music at space.

DING DING DING! WE HAVE A WINNER! THIS IS EXACTLY MY PROBLEM WITH SPACE AND OG, THE SHIT THEY PLAY INSIDE OF SPACE IS SO MUCH DARKER THEN THE STUFF THEY PLAY OUTSIDE OF SPACE. OG ROCKS ANY CLUB OUTSIDE SPACE, INSIDE SPACE IT'S BLA AT BEST.

I doubt any jock can rock a club like og, but inside space, he's just sounds the same as all the others.

The hip hop scene kills every spot that it invades. Embracing hip hop may be a short term spike, but ultimately, you will lose.

I don't think so, hip hop is changing its' image. Truth is hip hop has become attractive to all kinds of people not just the stereotypical "ghetto" crowd. It still the money maker, even in the long run

In Tampa, they take the business, but do not tolerate misbehavior. DJ Three has gig there every other Saturday, to play afterhours in the lobby, people crowd the place and we get pretty lively, but not out of control. They manage it pretty well, IMO.

I would venture up just to see the social dynamics of afterhours people versus Ma and Pa Kettle from Peoria.

I think Miami was smarter in putting their club district where it is, for obvious reasons.

What constitutes afterhours in Tampa, 3 AM?

Yeah really, says who?

This little enclave is just going to be a tourist oriented destination akin to Pleasure Island and will attract a like crowd of tourists and Broward locals. Sure, Miami clubs might take a minor loss from that, but it isn't going to affect the strong ones (space, crobar, nocturnal, etc...) in the long run.

Clubgoers will still come down for what Miami has to offer. The venues down here are more innovative, edgier and dynamic than 90 percent of the places up past the county line.

Nevermind the international market which comes to Miami. Broward/WPB looks funny at black, brown, yellow, and other assorted "feriners" and people who talk funny. Most European and South American tourists I talk to down here are convinced they'll be lynched if they venture out of Miami. They're partially right.

Of course the market down here is more vicious too, that is why you rarely see a club get past the third or fourth year. The upside is there's always new places to check out.

Maybe so, but things to do in Broward and WPB are more along the lines of being very commercial.

Miami's niche will always be a more specialized jet-set sort of entertainment. Again, the innovations and trends will start here. Broward copies and sanitizes it for mass consumption later on.

Frankly I welcome it. Too many J. Crew wearing dorks venturing down to these parts anyway. Keep 'em penned up in Lauderdale with their fraternity brothers.

whats there to do in Broward apart from the mall and Las Olas Blvd? the racetracks? the fleamarket? a couple of Olive Garden type restaurants? a ticky bar on the intercoastal?

is that the attractions that will lure tourists to take vacation in Broward? i dont think so.

Miami is so done . . . once they put Pottery Barn and the GAP on Lincoln Road it was done . . .

Further, if you do not speak Spanish you are at a huge disadvantage and a distinct minority there . . . many peeps don't like this.

Perfect example is Space . . . much much better there a year ago . . .

I am not comparing Miami to FTL . . . just saying Miami is over . . . it may come back in 5-7 years but for the time being it is ZZZZZZZZZZZZ city . . .

i dont see how GAP or any other retail store can hinder Miami (and i think this refers to Lincoln Rd and SoBe)...and as far as it being "done", i think "shaken up" for the better is the correct phrase......come winter time, i dont see how "Miami is done" can be warranted, you'll still get lots of people coming to town escaping harsh winters elsewhere....

Numerically, yeah. Broward may get more people.

As far as the quality of the things to do, well, I think Miami will have the edge. Again, the international crowd will always pick Miami over Broward. Especially for nightlife.

have you ever been to lauderdale? you can drink on the streets, there is 100 different places alone on the river walk, there are 16, count them 16 high rise condo buildings going in, major money to get into one, then there is cool places like shooters etc. then lauderdale beach is by far the best beach around...
