I keep telling people, if you don't live here, you don't know, but most people don't believe me.

It was fun while it lasted although so far I'm enjoying Brickell even more ;D

You'll be back. You just lived in a bad building.

I've been living and/or dealing with this blasted sandbar for close to a decade now.

What freaks me out is when I go to some place like Doral or Kendall. It's such a trip, I feel like I'm in WITSEC.

Sobe sucks to live in.. Dirty, crime ridden and my god it's filled with people who shouldn't be allow in broward county..

It sucks unless you have the cash to live well. I've never lived in South Beach proper. I've lived in Miami Beach, which you can still get a decent place to rent or buy at a (for SFL anyhow) reasonable rate.

A lot of people I know spend over half their monthly salary just to say they live in South Beach. Which is bad.

People are definitely getting taken advantage of by unscrupulous landlords here. Of course, that happens everywhere. But there are still good places to live in South Beach that you can even afford on a moderate income. You just have to look, and kick most of the realtors in the nads a few times.

For rentals I never deal with realtors. I've always dealt with the property owners. I'm not gonna pay some chump at a desk who edits his Myspace profile all day to do something I'm capable of doing myself.

My last move was "urgent", so I had little time to look. I lucked out though and found a nice studio apt in the Design District.

Plus, I like my whereabouts semi-secret. If I lived down here, my apt would be Grand Central Station.

I had that problem for awhile :-X

I <3 my apartment. It's quiet, safe, spacious, and reasonably priced. The building is gated, parking is easy, I can walk almost anywhere I need to go and if I can't I can always take the sobe local for a quarter! People in my area are friendly and it's beautiful here. Any young person who chooses to live in Fort Lauderdale over South Beach for any reason other than work or family is on crack. Stop hatin!

In the mornings I go downstairs, throw my kayak over the sea wall, and paddle through the cut to the ocean to watch the sunrise.

Then I walk down Lincoln Road to my office in a building full of modeling agencies. There's a porn star in my office right now.

In the afternoons I rollerblade over the shiny new beach-walk down to South Pointe park, checking out bikinis. If I feel like seeing some ta-tas that day I walk back up the beach to Lincoln.

On Thursdays I walk from my apartment across the street to an outdoor party by the pool with a beautiful bay view.

People who don't give the place a chance are really missing out.

Oh I'm not hating. I'm just playing devil's advocate.

Nothing wrong with living on the beach, I just don't go for the whole "oh you're on the mainland" attitude I get around these parts, even though I'm just off the bridge and close to where I need to be these days.

You gotta have the income level though to really support yourself living here. Right now I don't think I do. I'd rather live "decent" and have to commute 20 minutes, than live like shit and live right on top of things.

Plus, for what I'm aiming for in the long run, large warehouse space is cheaper over here.

Not film moon landings per se, but a big box where I can do whatever I want.

A lot of my location shooting these days has been off the beach anyhow. Most of my clients don't want palm trees and sand.

Except for girls looking to build their comp cards. I love the idea of shooting half-naked girls in the middle of a gritty urban setting, but I don't have the funds right now to provide location security.

Yeah, that. Except for the one's named "Red Eye". Those are done by a respectable guy-about-town and his crew. I don't mesh well with the A-list so I let them do that. ;D
