Sixty years ago they had people running the joint that made anything Bush has ever done look like a walk in the park. Who are they kidding, they all still hate each other.What pisses me off about the whole concept of the EU is that it is a thinly veiled attempt for Europe to counter the economic might of the US, and as of late, China. Nevermind that local laws and such of the subject member nations are being subverted in the name of this "union"...i.e. there's been serious discussion of rolling back things like the Dutch attitude on drug use, since the rest of the EU doesn't follow it. Well I don't think they're doing too shabby as of late... Last time I checked The Euro was stronger than the US dollar, which by the way has lost about 70% of it's power since the 1960's. The fact one currency is stronger then another is not a sign that their government is better or that their people are happier. There's something to be said about it when some countries use the US dollar as their official currency. Nevermind unofficially, you can use US dollars just about anywhere in the world. I have no doubt Spain, France, Italy, Germany, England, Holland, etc... would rank ahead of the USA per capita. We're somewhere near the bottom because of SUV driving soccer moms, Brangelina, and K-Fed. Heh, Firefox considers Brangelina a mis-spelled word. Evangelina it suggests. I wouldn't mind living in Europe, personally, but one thing that keeps me away is their governments. Our taxes are bad enough, theirs are worse. You know me, I'm a stingy rotten miser and want to keep every cent I earn. I don't consider it ignorance, I consider it realistic. I'd love to care and share with my neighbors, but the world doesn't work that way.But a lot of people I've talked to say they're really not thrilled with the whole EU concept at the moment. Be it old nationalistic ties, or like I mentioned certain local customs and laws being done away with for a vague greater whole, they're not happy with the EU, they see it as another layer of bureaucracy in an area full of it already. I know for one, the Dutch aren't thrilled that the EU is asking for them to take another look at their tolerance on drugs and sex care workers. Besides, anyone with half a brain hates their government. Ask anyone, anywhere, in any country if they like their government, and they'll say no. Be it in the US, Europe, Asia, or Africa. The US government is corrupt, the European bureaucracies stifle everything, Asian governments serve whichever corporate interest is paying the bills that month, and African governments usually need help moving money out of the country, and if you help them out, you get ten percent from Abdullah Oblong Gata. In some cultures, suicide is seen as something really bad in terms of what happens to the person after death, so on paper it may be reported as something else so the family will save face.
