What the HELL are you doing sending me a promotional text message?? First off, i never signed up for a list of any sort. Second, how the hell did anyone get my NEW YORK number?

Someone better tell me how to make sure this doesn't happen again. STAT.

Oh yeah and Erick Morillo isn't worth $100 cover charge. People are out of their fucking minds. ::)

have you given your New York number to anything at all ? try to remember ...

and even if you have done so to something only up there, it'll eventually get spread all over .. even outside the US ..

selling/trading lists of emails, phone numbers, addresses etc between clubs, marketing teams and others .. is just a common thing to do

Sadly, it really takes only one time and then your information will eventually get everywhere ..

maybe you could try and do something about it by calling your phone company and filing a complaint ? let your voice be heard !

oh ok .. from a texting website ?

thats even easier ... theres services where people (promoters) can type in a list of cell numbers and a program will start sending out text messages, over the web ..

now, how do those numbers get filtered out ? easy ...

INTERNET !

i ocassionally get a text or two about some porn shit lol

I got the same texts. Just reply with "stop" and you're off the list.

I tried that but you can't reply to these texts. My sidekick doesn't have the reply button active.

Andrew i'm fairly certain that i didn't give my number out to any lists and stuff like that. Does anyone know if any info from wanttickets might be floating around? Thats the only nightclub related site i've put my phone number in because its required.

What Can I Do to Prevent SPAM to My Wireless Device in Particular and SPAM in General

You can reduce the amount of SPAM you receive by doing the following:

*

Put your wireless phone number on the Do-Not-Call Registry, and distribute it sparingly.

*

Don’t display your wireless phone number or e-mail address in public. This includes newsgroups, chat rooms, Web sites, or membership directories.

*

If you open an unwanted message, send a stop or opt out message in response.

*

Check the privacy policy when submitting your wireless phone number or e-mail address to any Web site. Find out if the policy allows the company to sell your information.

*

Contact your wireless service or Internet service provider about unwanted messages.

*

Before you transmit personal information through a Web site, make sure you read through and understand the entire transmitting form. Some Web sites allow you to opt out of receiving e-mail from partners – but you may have to uncheck a preselected box if you want to do so.

*

You may want to use two e-mail addresses – one for personal messages and one for newsgroups and chat rooms. Also, consider using a disposable e-mail address service that creates a separate e-mail address that forwards messages to your permanent account. If one of the disposable addresses starts to receive spam, you can turn it off without affecting your permanent address.

*

Try using a longer and unique e-mail address. Your choice of e-mail addresses may affect the amount of spam that you receive. A common name like “mjones†may get more spam that a more unique name like da110x110. Of course, it’s harder to remember an unusual e-mail address.

*

Use an e-mail filter. Some service providers offer a tool that filters out potential spam or channels spam into a bulk e-mail folder. You may also want to consider filtering capabilities when choosing which Internet Service Provider (ISP) to use.

I never got it, but I did enable this week the feature on yahoo that when I hit the spam button it now blocks the address permanently, usually it would take a few times to for it to put it in the bulk folder but now it deletes it and blocks the address. My club spam has gone down to almost zero these days. Some reason the Atlanta guys and the aqua booty guys were my worst offenders.

ps. I've never been to Atlanta before!

As for the 100 bucks, more power to them if people paid but the end is near for djs...

Gmail's spam filter is actualy pretty decent. I've had it for about a year now and just recently a couple spam emails have gotten through to my inbox but their spam button permanently moves it to the spam folder.

I'm going to call T-Mobile today to make sure i can block it. At least i dont get charged by the text anymore otherwise i'd be even more pissed off.

What I think Barbarino is getting at is that the market may be taking another turn and the days of the superstar might be over. Outside of the vaunted "Top 10", it will be hard for a lot of guys to get work unless they have a decent production credit.

More and more, I think your clubgoing public wants to be entertained for their dollar. Be it in the production end that the DJ is doing (more guys are doing stuff like Sasha, Paul, JP, Richie, etc...) or in the overall production of the evening (dancers, that kind of thing...), people want more bang for their buck. Paying $100 per head might be fine now, but there had better be a helluva production or something backing it up besides some guy hitting play on the CDJs.
