At least shift the homeless. Most homeless people have mental problems that the system can't/won't help. I have no sympathy for lazy people, but next time we toss the homeless aside lets remember that the majority of them have a disease we don't help them with. And you know me Pod, i'm not some hand out far left duche bag. You can shift them all you want, but you are simply shifting them to another part of town where they'll eventually get moved to again. Miami needs to stop spending money on the PAC and do something productive.

Guest pod
Danny's pretty streetwise, obviously. He's from New York, so we've got nothing on him. That being said though, he was/is an occasional visitor to this town, so he sees snapshots of the ups and downs, whereas us who live here don't see it since from our point of view it's gradual, and thereby not as shocking.Funny thing, Amendment XXI within close vicinity to my apt, is getting popular, to the point where they've got parking bums now. I walk home and until they saw I was a resident, they thought I was trying to make a run for it without "tipping" them. They fully well know I'll call in support if things go south. Guest coach
I'm gonna hold to my line of the past several years that Miami does not give a fuck for clubs, even if they did zone the shithole-est place in town for 24 hour drinks. They figured they could make a few bucks and get the clubbers off their back at the same time. But the district has been in business for how many years now, the clubs have brought in a decent amount of money for the city in an area that no one else would have opened up in. And the city has done *nothing* for them. And, no, I do not count redecorating the freaking alley.I mean, hell, I will happily go wandering the backstreets of Wynwood to hit up the galleries with no fear and I drive through Overtown on a regular basis, but even I don't like going downtown. Not only is traffic horrendous, as DT pointed out, but the parking is ridiculous. BUILD A FUCKING PARKING GARAGE YOU DUMBASSES!Now, I don't know what other background drama is going on with the man, but he still has some points.Yes, I will agree that clubs work better in less affluent/residential areas so there isn't so much conflict with the homebodies, but that doesn't mean it has to be a total dump. Guest deprivation
The clubs downtown like Space & Pawn Shop are fun, but I too hate the drama of worrying about my car and safety. Only because I love electronic music do I tolerate these problems. I'll guess that others avoid downtown and go to safer places or at least more comfortable. If downtown could appear to be cleaner and safer, I think there could be a really good scene. As for DT's comments about popular Bob Sinclar songs, I think it's great that those songs are so popular. Those songs open people's minds to dance music that normally could care less about that genre. People should be going out to have a good time, not trainspot the DJ or expect to hear those most trendy sound of the moment.
Guest pod
True enough. I'm not suggesting making it into Las Olas and letting Kyle, Dakota, Blaine, and Kelsey have the run of the place, but at the same time, a few patrols in force of the surrounding areas would do wonders. Some of the old cops would do this...

As much as I agree with every point in your original post, I must get selfish for a moment if I want to see you play around here any time soon...JUST FUCKIN PLAY!!I don't care where. Blue, Laundry Bar, Pawnshop, anywhere but the norm for you. Play for less and play for that same passion that got you hooked so long ago. Fuck the money. Just show these haters what you can do to a crowd... despite the economics... in spite of the politics. Just make us dance and let's have a blast... no matter what venue it is.Til next time... peace! You'll get you revitilizeation and cleanup of downtown when the condos are done and people have moved in and start complaining about how/dirty/scummy/too many homeless/crime/etc. Then you'll see results. Guest 0crystal0
i agree w/ the fact that we need an above ground to have an under ground. we need the commercialisim not only to make 'the law' happy but also to bring in new people to our scene. we didn't all start out in the deep/mininal/dnb/whatever genre is now our favorite. most of us started out like Diaga said hearng a catchy tune and wanting to explore and then slowly finding ourselves in the patio/dark club listening to the newest stuff. there was a thread awhile back that was a good one as well about bringing new people into the scene. this is a bit of it all over again. so it almost seems like we aren't doing a good enough job of teaching the newbies that there is better music to be had. i for one enjoy many types of electronic music and the few i know have seen me at different places.downtown is a rarity just b/c of the previously stated situation. parking is insane. it shouldn't cost more to park than get in to the club. as well as me or me and a few girlfriends is not always the safest situation walking to teh club from said sketchy parking lot and i am a pretty independent girl. also a pizza joint wouldn't hurt either! Guest 4040
The whole homeless and thug thing in downtown does suck. Just the other day as I got off my shift from nocturnal at 8 am and I was told that several cars had been broken into and one car got stolen. Even though I have gotten use to these creeps I still walk to my car with caution because you never know when they'll have a mental breakdown and try to rob your ass with a knife.I think within the next few months to a year is when your going to see the real cleanup begin. As soon as these gargantuant condos start to fill up with residents is when the city will feel a need to clean up. pitty. As far as the whole music scene is concerned, I feel like its time to back under and i mean way under. I totally disagree that a cheesy song that becomes a commercial/international hit will help bring attention to our scene in a positive manner. This just further dilutes the scene. I say the hell with the people who don't care for the music the way it should be. We don't really need to be luring people with a bunch of fumunda cheese just so they can say its cool now. This is going to sound funny but oh so true. Parties should back go to glowstick knumb chucking, jnco wearing, pill popping, vapor rub sniffing, massage trains, unknown dj days. I know it sounds teenagish but shit there was no attitude, no one minded genre snobs, definitely no complaints, and the vibe kicked ass like no other party today. AndrewChibale
Hey guys, Danny's people dropped me a line last night and asked me to remove his post, as the DTourism policy dictates that all posts over there remain the property of DTourism. However, it's a big topic here already, so I'm letting the topic stand with some edits.i guess he wanted to keep his thoughts somehow private to his loyal dtourism.com fans ... i have an account there but i havent logged in so long that i can no longer read posts ..it also would've been nice to read what his fans on his website think about his postin any case .. i dont agree with all of what he wrotejust a few pointers:i agree with:- bums? yeah ... i wish the city would somehow put them somehwere else .. cant stand these individuals ... my car has gotten broken into; twice; by these people .. first time they stole the radio, second time they stole 5 years worth of music and my trust worthy headphones ... so on that note i do agree with DT- commercial house? some of them tracks are good tracks, but i believe he mostly refers to the djs that keep on playing these "commercialized" dance songs over and over again << i always thought this was a huge problem; imagine the kind of crowd that only goes out because they wanna have a few drinks, the kind of people that dont go out because of the music, if in their very few times out and about, lets say: once every 2 months, all they hear is "love generation" im sure they will think "that is it" (about dance music), their opinions about "techno" (cause they call anything electronic techno) wont go further than "world hold on" << this is the dj's faultnow, Danny is refering especifically to downtown Miami ... i wanna know where in downtown Miami he heard these overplayed songs ?someone said: these songs open peoples minds to dance music << very true! ... just dont play freakin' Bob Sinclar hits CD every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night for 2 years ... THAT way it doesnt helpi dont agree with:he basically says "all hope is lost"i dont think Oscar G and his sets from every Saturday at Space can fall into this category .. Oscar always play quality sets and he also support us up and coming producers .. so can't agree with DT on this quotein any case, i would love to see a good "be yourself" party happening again soon ... Danny is definitely an inspiration to more than one of us (i have even seen Sasha hanging out at one of his parties)
Guest lyrik
Miami is NOT the house music capital, Mecca or whatever the hell you want to label it (never was, never will be). I don't know why or when this perception (misconception) ever came to be but, Miami is a PARTY capital plain and simple. Music is at best secondary and you're lucky it’s not a place more prone to mega clubs you would find in spring break havens such as Pensacola or South Padre Island etc (get the heads in get them out, make the cash, rinse and repeat). You few "music heads" are part of an ever diminishing minority in Miami/South Florida. The huge clubs are not built for a DJ or musical substance...they are built for a party and a VIP money spending type crowd first and foremost. You don't have to look very hard to find examples of clubs that tried to buck that simple ideology. This is not the days of The Garage, Musicbox or Warehouse...this is 2007 where commercialization and communication of that commercialization is happening on a much grander scale than ever before. That in mind it feeds into what the sole purpose of any business is...to profit. Take it with a grain of salt you have huge clubs with more often than not, watered down music (not all the time, sure there is the rare exception, night or event) but 90% of the time you have predictability and THAT is exactly what a profitable business that has been proven successful wants. They want their customers to come to expect a certain product or more so a system…I’ll correct myself on that…screw the product (i.e. the music and DJ)…it’s the system that works…sell someone on a system that is assuredly predictable, but reliable and you will have residual customers for a very long time…next corner your market and read that market so you can change before your competitors do…sound like any one club that has been the most consistent in Miami for at least the past 6 years now?
Guest pod
People want to be assured that when they go out, their hard-earned money will be well-spent on a good time. That's where consistency comes in. The one thing about the music-oriented people in town is that their events either tend to be free, or the crowd gets comped, making it easy for them to go check things out. Your average work-a-day guy who's not hooked up isn't gonna blow $20 at the door on a maybe.
Guest biznation00
Great, so we should build 24 hour clubs with patios in Palm Beach next to Trumps house??The problems downtown are no better or worse the day the original Space opened there. Why no complaints back then?you're kidding right? Nick, Downtown today, vs downtown early 2000's doesn't compare. The homeless have always been & to me that's the least of the problem. Back then, warehouses made home for EDM clubs like Space, Living room, NV, etc... Parking was 50-75% less & stabbings or shootings weren't a monthly headline. The mood was never aggressive, the drug was "probably" ecstasy & kids carried glow sticks, not knifes...& that's just 1st layer of the cake. Take it from someone who's worked weekends in downtown since Oct. 2001.
