Clubs that will still be around in 3 years

disclaimer: i have been up for a few days. for those who are offended, please take with a grain of salt.

how about this.....

who fucking cares who will be open then....the more important question is....what can be done in the next three years to change our scene for the better?

when will people start going out for other reasons other than how hard the door is....how cool you look in vip...how many girls you have....

i know there is always a need for vip, look cool venues...dont get me wrong...

but i know miami locals have a broader perspective on music, many are transplants from overseas, or have traveled enough to be able to know what good music is....

so when is everyone going to demand a different party, versus the vomit open format, hip hop/commercial house formula????

why the fuck and i going to pay a G to sit on a cheap ass couch drinking a 50 dollar bottle to listen to top 40 mash ups, or over played electro house mierda?

i liked that track by outwork "electro" in like 2005 for the first time , after that it was annoying....i was at the mark a few weeks back and i hear the "electro" lyrics played over kurd maverik's "the rub"....this is 2007 and a half for fucks sake....so much music out there...and people are paying out the ass to hear this shit?

if it wasnt for the djs to play later that night i would have asked for my cover and bar tab to be reimbursed....and every asshole in the same lame ass 7Diamonds long sleeve dress shirt with those pointy cheap ass looking Marc Nason shoes throwing napkins on every breakdown...how many times can we cheer and jump around to "world hold on" in Miami?

the thing that bothers me is that i know people can handle and would love real music....but we are still going to be 5 years behind the rest of the dance music world by doing shit like this week in week out....

like seriously people....this is getting super fucking lame....i have been here long enough, and have traveled enough to realize in my young age that miami people need to start having more respectable demands for a party experience...i know they have it in them

will those big club names still be open....probably...but who fucking cares...they will be playing the same fucking music, with the same assholes next to you...when does it get old????

there comes a time where super clubs sell out enough commercially to be able to have enough money to bring in some great talent who has never been to miami....and give something back to the industry people, the heads, the djs, the local producers, the music enthusiasts....not the image enthusiasts

(example see: green velvet, samuel l sessions. laurent garnier, justin martin, tolfrey/eliot, nick warren, thanks to all of those who lined these up)

these "little guys"in town are bringing in heavy dudes, who can kill a party, make everyone money, and make EVERYONE happy....

when the fuck is space gonna say....ummmm ok....since we stole an ibiza club name...lets see whats hot on the white isle for the last 4 years....ummmm lets see....it sure as hell aint tribal...or electro for that matter.....why dont we bring ricardo or richie or luciano and have them bring the house down....

i know the space brigade will attack me and say well we have a working formula why change it....were packed every night, dont fix it if it aint broken...

my point is why not get back to the roots of where this all began by keeping things fresh, new, underground(yes i said it) and most definitively not commercial!!!!! i can go to pleasure island in orlando for cheese....and not worry about getting spit on by crack heads...give something back to those of us that live here who demand music other than nyc tribal electro house....fuck man....it seems like every time i used to walk in to space the same track was being played....im sure some of you know it "bassification"...i counted like 4 times as we are paying that track was on....no joke...

there have been more than a handful of free parties this summer that i would have paid the price of that tiesto fuck to go to...but i want to know when people are going to realize that they are getting ripped off by these super clubs.....

i was talking to a friend, and i related it to the vegas mega hotels, and how they find it very hard to keep people to gamble there, as many go to see the decor or attractions...then bounce off the strip to hit up locals casinos cause they pay out better....

sorta how miami is....tourist traps and overpriced formulaic super rip off clubs...and under rated locals bars off the beaten path that dont offer such a great astounding club experience, but make up for in ten fold with the vibe and the music....

sorry rant is over...

p.s. i dont want all you ppl posting past guest djs that space has brought or this place has brought....i used space as an example, but i generalized all of those places...the same local djs week in week out...who many of them i enjoy and have met....good people...but when you are paying a big cover and buying 12 dollar plastic cup splashes of watered down vodka....i at least want to hear music that was not played in 2005....

in summation.....I WANT MIAMI PEOPLE TO ASK FOR MORE.....complacency and ignorance will continue to ruin the scene by watering it down...cheesing it out....

+1

Conformism and fear its what stops evolution.

Bitching, whining and discrediting other people's hard work and talent is easy...

Being relevant to what happens....thats a little tougher..

Hopefully someday the Tech4Futures of the world will give this town the credit it deserves...but sometimes its hard to spot a good thing...when its all you ever see..

One mans Ibiza is another mans Miami....people are influenced by all types of sounds...and there are TONS of sub-genres in dance music...thats why dance music is so popular Globally..its funny though how some feel worthy of choosing what this towns musical preference SHOULD be....

I, for one, am glad were different.

God, you people really know how to ruin a night out.

drink some more of that LP coolaid, thats it....mmmmmmmm!

i will keep this one as concise and simple as possible....

i never once proposed a complete format change at these big venues....i simply suggested the idea of guys like LP or the opium people to throw us a bone every once and a while and bring in some more "alternatively pleasing" (i wont say better, because that is an ignorant suggestion) DJs to bombard these beautiful venues....

week in week out all that million dollar A/V gear wasted on the same guns and roses/bon jovi mashup, or the new but somehow already played out Dirty South remix....

i know the powers at be know what music heads enjoy....

take a small percentage of all that profit you assholes make off these idiots week in week out....and bring richie to the patio or picotto to the mainroom like i said.....throw a cocoon ONE OFF or a claud von stroke vs matthew dear night out of the blue just to hear great music on such great mega venues...i love my techno bar parties, couldnt live without em...but it would be nice just once to be able to get crazy on that patio to music that heads prefer...

i know its a business dan, i am sure as hell not a noob, it took me one season down here 6 years ago to realize what the deal is...and it actually took that long for me to find a better party scene like i have now.....miami lacks foreward thinking music because people like you that either work for the powers that be, work with the powers that be, or worship the powers that be....

when i am paying a 20 dollar fucking cover, i expect more than the same music or the same DJ i went to when i first moved here so long ago....these venues sound great look great, its a shame i cant enjoy them because miami partygoers dont demand more from their party providers at mansion, space and cameo....why dont they demand it???

cuz they dont know any different...how could they....djs like roger/morillo/DD, you know the rest of the gamut, come in and rape us for every cent they can manage, and leave us with a scene that is driven by the same "its a business" mindset...

That mindset ruins every chance to hear different, newer, alternative sounds for these helplessly ignorant partygoers who frequent these venues...

it kills me to think that we are at a point to where we make it so that the only people who can afford 12-18 dollar drinks happen to be a crowd that is satisfied with mash up open format crap or overplayed electro house....ever think of that??

i dont know...i actually want to go ahead and delete both posts now...because as i think about it...i actually want space, cameo and mansion to keep throwing horribly overpriced and bad sounding parties...because if they ever got their hands on our scene they would ruin it... and cheese it out...

instead of having everyone wearing huge dior sunglasses with mohawks dancing to pussy ass djs who compete with their girlfriends on who looks prettier, we would have everyone in a v neck and a scarf....cedric wouldnt look good in a scarf....he already is borderline too feminine...jk cedric.. ;)

so take i take it all back...

ill start over...

mansion will survive

cameo rocks!! they are just getting started!!!

and SPACE RULES!!!!

Put your hands up!!!!

Put your Hands up for Hialeah!!!!

I love this city!!!" ;)

OG, thanks for getting into this because you are my one true and only exception to every generality that i make......you were the reason i fell in love with miami bro....those marathons years ago sucked me in....so i really hope you are not offended, but try and take the few points i am trying to make without all of my opinionated blabber and compare it to others who have had similar complaints...we arent making this shit up...

miami deserves a more music minded and driven nightlife than what it has become since i moved here....

where the fuck where you when DT called you out and said the same shit....now, i along with countless other ousted people on here(see nova) and DT cant be experiencing a different miami than you....

with that said....

you know the hotness right now is not dirty south electro bassline anthem shit....and it sure as hell is not mashup....

why is everyone afraid of detroit and berlin????

you do it proper with some tech here and there but i am speaking mostly of afterhours at space....you have all my respect for holding down that place for so long....your parties i dont have too much of a problem with at all to be honest...i just wish that patio was being used better....

Believe me...Im aware of what you are talking about...(and if you think Im not, you underestimate me) but you shouldnt constantly overlook what IS good in this town....You should embrace it and support it.

Otherwise, an overall better and healthiER music scene will never materialize...I was born and raised here...so I remember a time when we didnt even have the luxury of shitting on the "big commercial mega-club" cause they dont play what the cool guys in Ibiza play...

You have to keep in mind...

Morillo, Roger, Dirty South and whoever else you have deemed "uncool"

are ALSO regular fixtures in Ibiza...so are Tiesto, PVD, David Guetta, Bob Sinclair etc...

The point is...different strokes for different folks

The guys on the patio do their thing...and I do mine inside...and everyone is happy ;)

My suggestion is...instead of coming on here and putting shit down....give me some NEWS...give me some OPTIONS....tell me where I can go hear some new music...tell me whos playing it...Information would go a MUCH longer way than bitching does..

I am with you in the fight ....shit, Im on the front lines!!! but coming on public message boards with sweeping criticisms (that undermine what many people do to improve things) doesnt help anyone..just sets us back.

BTW: DT never posted on this board...so why would I reply to him on here? Besides....I tend to keep my conversations with friends AWAY from public messageboards.

Tech4Future.

Unfortunately, you and your minority crowd don't spend money, so you really don't have a say in nightclub bookings and operations.

It's the truth. The paying crowd wants the sounds that are currently in vogue in Miami, so that's the way it. Nightclubs are a business. Dade put it best, "If you want to be educated, go to night school".

You act like things are a waste since the chips aren't on your side of the table.

Now, if you guys were big spenders, things would change in a heartbeat.

but before anyone has a right to make an opinion they should understand the way the bussiness or industry works..summer is the slowest months in Miami, period.. come around October you will see all the BIG name deejays and different bookings.. but the funny part is..that once we bring in those acts and deejays.. what do people do...:

1. COMPLAIN ABOUT THE PRICE OF COVER

2. COMPLAIN ABOUT THE DOOR POLICY

3. COMPLAIN ABOUT TRACK PLAYING..

sooo make up your mind...@!#@

You see my frustrations, Chino. Those bitching probably have never dealt with, or worked at a top-flight nightclub in their lives. They act like there's some sort of vast conspiracy to keep "their" DJs out of town. Most club owners and operators don't have the time to coordinate such a conspiracy.

Sometimes I wish I had the cash to spare just to buy one of these guys a club, and turn them loose on it. In six months, it'd either be closed, or they'd be forced to book DJs they didn't like to make money.

drink some more of that LP coolaid, thats it....mmmmmmmm!

LP Kool Aid is yummy! I've had some and it tasted good to actually make money throwing parties.

i will keep this one as concise and simple as possible....

Well.......

i never once proposed a complete format change at these big venues....i simply suggested the idea of guys like LP or the opium people to throw us a bone every once and a while and bring in some more "alternatively pleasing" (i wont say better, because that is an ignorant suggestion) DJs to bombard these beautiful venues....

First of all...we all know that you really meant "better" but decided to write it that way to seem less ignorant. Lp and Opium play music for their customers. You know, the people who spend money there. They don't care about what you want and never will. Get over it. By the way, they're right and you're wrong. If they wanted to play other music, they would but the people who go there would hate it.

week in week out all that million dollar A/V gear wasted on the same guns and roses/bon jovi mashup, or the new but somehow already played out Dirty South remix....

It's these statements that really make me laugh. Somehow they owe you a chance to play with their big toys. Well, Pal, not so much. Let's get this straight.....they shelled out the big bucks for the big toys and they can play whatever they want on them. Too bad.

i know the powers at be know what music heads enjoy....

They just don't care because the "heads" don't have no dollars.

take a small percentage of all that profit you assholes make off these idiots week in week out....and bring richie to the patio or picotto to the mainroom like i said.....throw a cocoon ONE OFF or a claud von stroke vs matthew dear night out of the blue just to hear great music on such great mega venues...i love my techno bar parties, couldnt live without em...but it would be nice just once to be able to get crazy on that patio to music that heads prefer...

OK.....first of all as one of the "assholes" i will be the one to say on bahalf of all my "idiots"....FUCK OFF YOU STUPID TWAT. They're all idiots because they don't follow your path to the Shangri-La of minimal techno? What a tool. I've been to your type of event. The guys outnumber the girls by 7 to 1. Not a good ratio for the straight man or the venue. Maybe the reason you never get to "get crazy on the patio to music that heads prefer" is that you're the wrong type of head.

i know its a business dan, i am sure as hell not a noob, it took me one season down here 6 years ago to realize what the deal is...and it actually took that long for me to find a better party scene like i have now.....miami lacks foreward thinking music because people like you that either work for the powers that be, work with the powers that be, or worship the powers that be....

NO.....not true. Miami's club scene is just fine. It's well balanced....there are places for the rich, the not-rich....hip-hop, dance, latin, mash-up....whatever you want it's here....even techno. You just don't seem to realize that the market takes care of all this. If people didn't want Hip-Hop there would be no hip-hop. The reason that your music only gets play at Blue or Laundry Bar is because that's enough to satisfy the market demand for it. End of story.

when i am paying a 20 dollar fucking cover, i expect more than the same music or the same DJ i went to when i first moved here so long ago....these venues sound great look great, its a shame i cant enjoy them because miami partygoers dont demand more from their party providers at mansion, space and cameo....why dont they demand it???

Hello....are you stupid? They are demanding what they want and those venues are listening. It's just not what YOU want. Miami partygoers have spoken and been heard.

cuz they dont know any different...how could they....djs like roger/morillo/DD, you know the rest of the gamut, come in and rape us for every cent they can manage, and leave us with a scene that is driven by the same "its a business" mindset...

If Morillo is on the flyer, 4000 people show up willing to pay $40 each to come in. If Picotto, Hawtin, Leibing and six more were on the bill, you would be luck to get 1000. Simple math.

That mindset ruins every chance to hear different, newer, alternative sounds for these helplessly ignorant partygoers who frequent these venues...

I forgot that anyone who does not agree with you is ignorant. Again.....TOOL.

it kills me to think that we are at a point to where we make it so that the only people who can afford 12-18 dollar drinks happen to be a crowd that is satisfied with mash up open format crap or overplayed electro house....ever think of that??

OK......now you don't want to pay for the drinks either. Way to make your case to the big clubs.

i dont know...i actually want to go ahead and delete both posts now...because as i think about it...i actually want space, cameo and mansion to keep throwing horribly overpriced and bad sounding parties...because if they ever got their hands on our scene they would ruin it... and cheese it out...

Oh....OK. Glad we worked that out.

Ouch Dade, its too early on Monday morn for one to be so angry!

Tech: Miami is what it is man. It has and always will be. I understand and can sympathize with you, i don't hear the music i like or the jocks i want to see here. Do something about it instead of ranting on cooljunkie. If you don't like what these clubs have to offer, don't go.

EDIT: You other post in the "City is Changing" thread was filled with goodness and hope, what the hell happened between that post and this one?

i think basically what pod is trying to say is that the majority of miami is just looking to go out, :D score a piece of patch, get liqoured up, and look cool doing it.

You and Pod are exactly right. Tech's problem is that he does not care about liquor, patch or cool. And he thinks nobody else should either. After all, if you care about anything but the super-minimal-techno you're an idiot who needs to be educated. I think I'll stick to Liquor and patch.

I agree, I stopped bitching a longtime ago, I for one am one of those people that actually pays at the door, waste a lot of money at the bar and hits up VIP. I am not one these clubber that doesn't depend on a guestlist or a promoter to hook me up with an entrance to get in, I dont shaft the bartender on drinks, I tip accordingly and yes I am a music head.

I love a good time and I love getting my drink on once inside but the soundtrack of my night has to be up to par, the music defintely has to be kicking, not the same tired sound you hear on the radio or the same tired sound being played by every Dj around town.

Also I dont want to deal with the velvet rope BS, especially when I am there to spend money. I used to love going to clubs every weekend but due to my dislikes I just dont go out as often, so I just dont go its as simple as that, there is not a huge appeal to Miami's clubland anymore it has lost its luster in my opinion.

Clubs run in cycles, every week there is someone that is turning 21 and wants to celebrate their 21st birthday by clubbing and since this is something new to them, they start clubbing non-stop and well that brings a lot of new dough to the clubs.

First of all I think you need to go to sleep and get some rest. I understand you want to see new talent come as do all of us, but talking shit about space ain't gonna get you anywhere. I think space does a great job of bringing in top notch djs from around the world every so often. Remember, space is always going to bring great djs that will make them money not great djs that will lose them money. What I'm guessing is that you are spaced out. You need to take some time away from that place to really get an appreciation for it and go support the new cats at blue and laundry bar who are working their tails of to bring us some unerground shit. Last words... Either open your own club and see how hard that shit is or go support the locals and if your lucky you might be invited to a real underground party going down of aug. 11 - ask around.

The Golden Rule. He with the gold makes the rules.

Dade, can we find some investor who's willing to possibly lose a few million just to satisfy my curiosity?

We'll make it a TV show even. I've kicked about the idea before.

The premise:

New nightclub opens. For a challenge, let's put it Downtown.

One of these "experts", is placed in the role of owner/managing partner. He or she has to deal with running the club, and turning a profit after a year. Otherwise, "you're fired".

Every day, the contestant has to deal with the police, fire marshals, code enforcement, employees, promoters, DJs, technicians, maintenance, liquor distributors, FPL, politicians, neighbors. Nevermind when the club is actually open!

This fall, on FOX Reality.

It's a nice idea but what if they actually pull it off? It would make the rest of us look pretty stupid.
