Stop Abusing the term "Official"

Recommended Posts

The following is boosted from an electronic dictionary, intended to abate the current abuse of the term "official" on the board.

BTW, just cuz something is "official" doesn't mean its worthwhile, and likewise, most club-related events that are mad fun are not "official" in any way.

of·fi·cial- adjective

Abbr. off.

1.Of or relating to an office or a post of authority

2.Authorized by a proper authority; authoritative

3.Holding office or serving in a public capacity

[From Middle English, ecclesiastical officer, from Old French, from Latin officialis, an attendant of an office, from officium, duty, service. See office.]

Asphinctersayswha?

This is my official declaration that I am putting the word official in every post I put up from this moment forward cwm32.gif

What does it matter? As far as my official my car sucks in the snow thread, the 2nd definition would be most fitting:

2.Authorized by a proper authority; authoritative

It was officially authorized by me, a proper authority on how much my car sucks in the snow.

Well....just to have some fun....if you want to be really picky:

The term By The Way-BTW (that you used in your above post is a religious saying that means:

Following/preaching the way of the Lord...By The Way of the Lord!

Now, if you are religious and you do preach the way of Lord on a regular basis, then using this saying is acceptable (usually used by members of the church). If you do not, theoretically you should not use this term.

Just being silly!!!!
