Groovejet NYC Opening...

Recommended Posts

the groovejet new years eve party was a JOKE! they totally oversold the event and left hundreds of people standing in the ice and snow at midnight. it wasn't much better on the inside - 45 minute waits for coat check and ten deep at the bar. all in all a big huge rip off!

Just saw this press release today...

-----------------------------------------

Greg Brier who virtually invented South Beach with Rose Bar, Rebar, Velvet and Groovejet will debut his latest incarnation, Groovejet NYC, in the first week of November. The dance lounge expresses everything Brier has learned and schooled throughout the 10 years he has been defining the term ‘nightclub’. Peter Sibilia and Damion Vizuete of Mobb Designs, the creative forces behind some of New York’s hottest spots, Abaya, Sugar, and Roxy, will apply their touches to create a modern organic tone for Groovejet NYC and an unparalleled dance lounge for New York City. Peter and Damion will craft Groovejet NYC from designs of local street-wise artists whose work reflect the raw, gritty origins of fledgling DJs and of futuristic fabrics and textures creating that downtown edge in the comfort of a lounge.

Located at 286 Spring Street, Groovejet NYC will be home to Groovejet the company - the new voice of electronic music. The design of the space will embrace music extremes, appealing to everyone from the jet-set to the hip downtown crowds, while always adhering to the Groovejet mantra, ‘Music is Life’. The sound system will be the only one of its kind. New York’s top sound engineers, Speaker Kits, are designing a prototype of the world’s first digital surround sound system for a dance venue. Through the effects of digital time delay and decoding any sound ambience can be achieved to compliment the setting, be it cozy den or dance hall. Equally impressive will be the eye popping visuals displayed on 8 flat screen TVs, bringing a tangibility to the music that you can see and will want to touch. Entering Groovejet NYC you walk into a soothing amber-lit living room with plush couches, a grand fireplace and walls and floors finished with dark rich wood. The dance floor will light dancers from their feet to their head throwing shadows with beat driven lights from beneath the floor. Groovejet NYC is one of the few establishments in Manhattan to have a cabaret license for dancing. It will also be serving food from 5 o’clock till dawn. Patrons can choose from a veritable collage of tasty canopies and tapas while watching the lounge evolve from chill early evening lounge to groovin’‚ dance club.

Brier’s engaging persona cuts through pretense instantly putting everyone around him at ease. This ethos will carry over to Groovejet NYC where neither velvet rope nor cover charge will be welcome. Electronic music’s broad appeal spans from street level to the most exclusive destinations around the world and at Groovejet NYC everyone will feel at home whether you came to listen to a local DJ prodigy or a global superstar.

I don't know how good this going to be.Yes for years Groovejet SOBE was great however the NYC venues Jet lounge and Jet 19 had their six months of fame and burned out.Anyhow I think this is in the old Jet lounge space across the street from NV if it is, its way to small unless they were able to pick up additional square footage some how.
