And something @ Temple Bar - not a 'club' event - it sounds interesting.....

Daedelus, Busdriver, Dr. Rock, Damon Aaron, Mannequin Lung, DJs Carlos Niño, Frosty and Nobody at Temple Bar.

Good god, it’s a gargantuan gathering of the very best our fine cowtown has in the new sound arts (hip-hop/electronic/-derived divisions). Daedelus is Welshman Alfred Weisberg-Roberts, whose funky live sets offer maelstroms of tone colors via classical guitar, electric bass, flute, toy instruments, bass clarinet and computers; tonight the buzz is on as he’s joined by acclaimed freestyle rapper Busdriver. Dr. Rock is the slammin’est dub DJ in L.A., an appropriately named player whose frenzied mixes on early-‘80s dancehall 45s lay complete waste to the kids on the floor; Altadena kid Damon Aaron is a singer/songwriter who makes an atypical and potentially huge soul-folk-pop sound with his drums/Rhodes/melodica trio. Mannequin Lung is Alan Avanessian, founder of the righteous and relevant Plug Research label, and a man whose Detroit techno/German-electronic inspired mayhem will broast your brain; his broken-dirty hip-hop/experimental/electronic/melodic stuff’s upcoming on his Headset album on Pole’s Scape label. "Eaves" series host DJ Nino spins broken-beat, house, hip-hop, rare groove, African and South American rhythms; Dublab’s guru Frosty gets in a freakily wide-ranging word, and his pal Nobody spins a psychedelic-rock set. Only five bucks tonight if you bring one or more canned goods for local missions and shelters. (Les Moore)
