Mr saleen list of reasons why NJ and NYC club scenes are failing.1. Over commercialization > everyone is a DJ nowadays2. Urban Sprawl, more and more ppl are leaving the urban areas for more rural areas, aka NYC is not the central cohesive glue that holds the northeast together anymore....3. Cheep travel, even before 9-11 more ppl are willing to get on a plane and go party somewhere else.4. More emerging markets in the last few years.5. Lack of distinction between clubs6. Gimmicks by clubs and promoters7. Value, not there anymore8. Baby boomers who built the entertainment business are calling it quits and moving to warm areas to play golf, therefore there is huge lack of capital spending9. Drugs< not cool to do anymore and harsh concenquences of being caught with them10. Lack of personal attention to patrons11. Greed< example selling more tickets for NYE then the club can hold.12. DWI laws and enforcement< i'm not saying this is bad, but its a deterant. 13. Foreign competiton. Aka mexico, drink at 18, Ibiza drugs drugs drugs.14. Clubs are viewed the same way as porn shops are...an eye sore on a community, which in NJ is probaly afluent due to the fact NJ is the richest state per capita15. Ologopolistic market< few control the market and barriers to entry problems16. Clubs are competing with them selves, aka Djs and bunka, xs and temps, merge and metro etc.... As the big 3 in Detroit learned this is not profitable in the long run. You can't have 2 ford dealerships down the road for one another, or they will try and out sell each other, its called Arbitrage.....My solutions to these problems is simple:In order for the club scene in NJ to further better its self we need a lesson in Principles of Macro Econ......Look on every intersection , your bound to see 3 different gas stations all owed by different companies...On any road you can see burgerking, wendys, Mickey D's,Every wonder why car dealerships are right next to each other?Well its called a pure competitive market, and we the patrons gain when a market is full of competition.the burger joints bring inovation and value, because they have to. for them to survive. Jenks just bought water works and a pier in SSH, another great example of a few controling the market.....WE the patron loose in this situation.We need more indepently owned clubs and the club scene will thrive like you've never seen, we as patrons are cattle or numbers to the door guys, back a long time ago we were customers!I'm really stoned so I hope non of yous read all the way threw this. danfury Posted January 15 Report Share Posted January 15 I think it is all about what you feel like doing for the night.......if you just want to make it an easy drinking night than Jersey is the best place to be.......the crowds are clean, and the music is still good esp in north/central jersey.........if you are into the afterhours scene, you are left with no choice but to travel to NYC........but in NYC when u go to these afterhours places you don't know what is what (who is a guy and who is a girl).....The crowds are so shady and dirty looking sometimes......Hemafrodites, drags walking around, young kids in adidas pants with glowsticks....it makes u want to go home and pour boiling water over your head and sterilize yourself...... Where as jersey clubs you feel a lot more comfortable.....SF is the only NYC club i will go to now, and the crowds everywhere in NY have only gotten more dirty and shady......not excluding SF in anyway of the crowds.....(nothing will beat the crowds there in 98-99 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Small indepented owners cant compete with larger venues. They can not always offer what large clubs in both NJ and NY can offer. DOnt get me wrong i have been to alot of those smaller clubs/bars/lounges and its just not the same. And this isnt always a bad thing. I think now these independent wanna be club owners look at these bigger more successful clubs and think they can do the same thing. Small time venues can provide what the big guys can't, and that is service. Small mom and pop resturantes treat you much much better then some god damm corp garbage, I only eat at non corprate places....I go to one place and the owner says hello all the time, he appreciates my business, big time clubs don't. Thats why I think those support your local club posts are BS, why should I line the pockets of some rich guy? Point is you can be succesful if you have the right idea. Apple compter was started in a garage for 50 bucks,Bloomberg had one office now hes a billion aire. PPl love to think that rich were rich and will be rich, and they are just always gonna be middle class. In the movie wallstreet michale douglas talked about how ppl thought he pulled a rabbit out of a hat , and thats how he got rich, basically meaning luck, there is no luck just creative minds..... Jersey clubs kick ass. If your not having a good time in Jersey your either not going to the right places or your friends suck. IMO I don't mind a club closing at 2 am because personally I would like to enjoy my weekend and not sleep the day away. But again to each his own.
