  1. For any of you tech types out there, check this out: http://www.lionstracs.com/index.php?module=Static_Docs&func=view It's a linux based sampling/synth workstation. Pretty impressive specs and the architechture will be Open Source... AMD Athlon XP 2000+, 333MHz bus 512Mb RAM, expandable to 3Gb ATX mainboard, 400Mhz system bus, five PCI expansion slots ultra DMA 66/100 80Gb IDE hard disk, CD-RW and DVD reader combo, 1.44Mb floppy drive AGP-4 GEFORCE 4 MX-64MB graphics card, VGA/SVHS/PAL Video OUT Plus a full color LCD... Damn expensive though...
  2. Did you finalize the CD? I'm assuming this is a regular audio disk...
  3. I never mentioned Castro killing as many as Saddam. Neither you nor I know exactly how many deaths either of these two dictators are accountable for. What I mention was that Castro was responsible for much more damage to this country than Saddam. Take a look around Miami during the 80's, 90's even now... Â Those numbers were copied from usinfo.state.gov, the US Department of State website. Saying that the national deficit "means very little" is like having your own business and saying that your operating cash flow (bottom line) doesn't mean a thing. The "lot of people" you refer to must be Bush supporters, which is odd since I thought republicans were financially conservative (which I am). Again, those figures came from the Department of State. Your not saying our own government would lie to us are you? There is no "percentage of the economy" used to calculate the deficit. It's very simple really, the Executive branch submits to Congress a fiscal budget for each of the four years they are in power. This budget is compared to the expected revenue generated by the US government (ie.. taxes and such). The net result will either be a positive (profit) or negative (deficit) number. Those precious "tax cuts" you refer to were essentially "loans" intended to raise consumer confidence by the administration. A desperate move to be sure. Unfortunately, these cuts contributed to the deficit and now we have lost many of the more lenient tax laws for 2004 for the sake of driving up revenue against this same deficit. Think of Bush's financial sense explained by way of Popeye's non-vegan pal Wimpy: "I will gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today." And Tuesday is fast approaching...
  4. If you recall, the first song ever to feature a rap group to make it in to the Billboard top ten, was Rapper's Delight. While largely considered a "novelty record" at the time, it had more in common with dance music than what hip hop has become today (bass line driven, live percussion, upbeat). From there, most "hip hop" consisted of MC's rhyming over instrumental DISCO tracks (Jimmy Spicer, Funky 4 plus one more, Treachorus 3, Fearless 4 etc..). So, you could say Hip Hop evolved from dance music. In this case, disco. Even Bambattaa was doing Dance music thanks to the efforts of Arthur Baker... But the real question here is, would you do Missy Eliot? After considerable thought, I do believe I would...
  5. Fidel Castro would have been closer, less expensive to overthrow and has done more to harm this country than Saddam Hussein on his worst day. Fidel aside, there are far more "evil" dictators around if Bush is feeling so righteously philanthropic.. Yes, but there is this little thing called "consumer confidence" which drives both investment and short term spending trends. Put a president in place that most people did not vote for, who starts wars abroad over unsubstantiated claims and submits to congress a 2005 fiscal budget that includes an 11% increase to his own department and guess what? People start to hold on to their money in hopes of preparing for the worst. Take a look at the national deficit over the last 10 years: 1994 -203.2 1995 -164.0 1996 -107.5 1997 -22.0 1998 69.2 1999 125.6 2000 236.4 2001 127.4 2002 -157.8 2003 -375.3 2004 (estimate) -520.7 2005 (proposed) -363.6 Notice that the years we became cash flow positive were the result of and during the Clinton years. Bush comes in and our net revenue starts to quickly go south (prior to 9/11/2001, so let's not use terrorism as the excuse). If you still think Greenspan has so much power over the economy, your ignoring the obvious... agreed....
  6. The fact that we have a president that uses his position to push a personal and business agenda as opposed to one that is centered on the citizens of this country as a whole, shows that we have become largely apathetic when it comes to politics. Hmmm... Bush is republican. Congress is controlled by republicans. Exactly how much censure do these people really believe is going to occur?
  7. Years ago, we bought a hacked marine transmitter, ran the antenna up the side of my building to the roof and started broadcasting on 90.9 FM (as ViBE FM). We had turntables setup in a window directly across from Crobar in the Espanola Way Art Center where I lived. DJs were brought down from all over and they were allowed to play live sets.. As time went by, we tried to go legit by contacting the FCC and getting licensed as a non-profit community radio station. The FCC had so many prerequisites that there was no way we could get the license without a 2-4 million dollar investment.. Since I was a "starving artist" at the time enjoying the culinary delights of Ramen Noodles, obviously this wasn't going to happen. To add insult to injury, the FCC said they knew where we were broadcasting from and that they were going to come out, confiscate our equipment and have us arrested. I couldn't get home and unplug the transmitter fast enough... The station was relocated and I lost track of whatever happened to it.. FM Radio is big business with literally millions of dollars at stake. With that in mind, nobody is going to chance that much money on the whim of a small niche market such as underground dance music. Anyone remember Hot 105 waaaay back in the day?
  8. Damn you all! Where's the pics?? Sounds like a great time!
  9. Let us not relate the success of either George W. Bush or Janet Jackson to hard work.. these are nepotists who took advantage of their situation... As for the whole titty situation, I do happen to have a son. The simple rule with kids is that they will inevitably find whatever you tell them is wrong "cool". So I have more to fear as a parent from this whole "right wing conservative" facism than any "liberal media". The more the right wingers make sex, nudity and drugs out to be such a big deal, the more I see kids (including my own) taking more of an interest. Kids will always want to push the boundaries of their own independence. The more "taboos" we create as a society, the more "tools" the kids will have to do this with.
  10. That's good to hear... there's definately a niche market available in the independant/underground dance music genre for legal MP3 downloading (think legit SoulSeek). If we hadn't left the Deep House sound back in the late 90's, I would have liked to push some material your way..
  11. Opening a new label is a brave thing to do right now... I wonder if they have a solid online distribution and promotion strategy...

    Vote now!

I voted but 1. that poll is too damn long (with lots of repeat nominees) 2. I honestly don't think hip hop tracks with cheesy "dance" remixes should qualify as "dance music". Remove those and half the content is out the window. ... it's early... I'm cranky. Good luck CJ!
  13. I would first wish the world silent... I'd then wish the world dark... Lastly, I'd wish for a global sound system with light show and go out for a very LOUD BANG...
  14. True....and there were a couple playmates, plus some local modelling companies provided a few of their girls. I'm saying combine that with some local Djs like Eric K., Stryke or some others and it would have been perfect..
  15. Last Saturday I went to a pool party over at the Sagamore with Playboy magazine and Chivas (Ricky Williams hosted). It was damn near as perfect a party as I have been to in Miami... Not for nothing, but the club scene here is pretty good and all but it can get booring.... especially when your an old man like me and have been doing it for .. ummm more than a few years. Anyway, this particular pool party had a great vibe, lots of girls in bikinis and an open bar up in VIP. The only thing missing was GOOD MUSIC. The DJ played an eclectic mix of rap, 80's and house, which could have been good but just sounded... lost. This got me to thinking... why the hell aren't there people doing these on a regular basis with real DJs? This IS Miami and it seems the only time we get good pool parties is at WMC and the occasional one off. AND pool parties can bring out a much wider variety of crowd than the average SoBe club (imagine that.. South Beach without the thug life poster kids). So heres the question... Why not do a monthly regular SoBe pool party with guest DJs at different venues? Hmmm...
  16. Stryke Stryke Stryke! Can't we have just a little bit of hardcore??

    MP3 DJ?!?!

The Denon S-5000 allows you to scatch MP3s from any CDR: I just picked one up a couple weeks ago. It can also play 2 different tracks at the same time from one CD (2 sets of outputs) Very impressive....
  18. Yeah... I agree, the feel is better than the Pioneer. Since buying the unit last Friday, I've explored the features a bit more. Mixing is pretty easy, though the pitch slider by default is much different than 1200's (you can adjust it). Here's a neat trick... Set the "key adjust" to -100% and the pitch to 0. While the track is playing, hit "key adjust" twice. The music will get stretched in realtime until you hit the key-adjust button again... interesting effect to use on echoes while the alpha track is playing..
  19. You mean to tell me you've never heard of Richie Kaczor or Nick Siano?!? Egad! You poser!
  20. I just picked up one of these: I have always sworn off CDs in favor of vinyl but playing around with this unit has started to change my mind. The only real criticism I have on this whole CD scratch thing is the way they handle cueing. On vinyl, you can find your mark and make quick adjustments to your finger position. On these digital decks, no matter where you hold the platter, the cue point remains the same. I guess old habits will need to be broken for new technology.. Anyone else here adept at the use of this unit?
  21. In case you haven't checked out this site, they have some pretty good streaming club videos of various DJs spinning: DanceTrippin I'm listening to the Junior Sanchez Ibiza/Pacha one now... good stuff Nothin' like some straight up House.....
  22. I fully intend on capturing Vida's heart through the use of gyrating hips in syncopation to some deep house...
  23. Alright... I'm in and Happy Birthday! Maybe I can actually meet you guys for once...hmm
  24. Im not much in to the Xbox thing, but I've been deathmatching on the PC since Doom first came out... I've played a lot of Enemy Territory and we run a 50 player RTCW/ET server with forums/portal over at onlinegaming.the-beach.net Lately though, I've been busy with some new toys in my own studio to do much gaming ;D ... Seems we have things in common... Sorry 'bout Maze btw...
