  1. In the history of the Dow Jones Industrial Average, what percentage of gains have occurred on days when Congress was out of session?

    15%

    45%

    70%

    90%

    The correct answer is:

    90%

If you are invested in the market, look at the Congress in session Calendar. You will be happy, ;D

A recent research paper by Michael Ferguson of the University of Cincinnati and Hugh Witte of The University of Missouri titled "Congress and the Stock Market" found that an astonishing 90% of all the gains in the Dow Jones Industrial Average occurred while Congress was not in session.

What could possibly explain the correlation between Congressional sessions and market performance? According to Witte and Ferguson, it is possible that markets head south when Congress is in session because of the rule making power of the legislature. When Congress is in session, "Information about potential changes in the tax and regulatory environment is generated during committee meetings, floor speeches, etc. In a competitive equity market this information will impact stock prices as it is learned." The researchers also point to a quote from Will Rogers to eloquently communicate the impact Congress can have on investors, "This country has come to feel the same when Congress is in session as we do when a baby gets a hold of a hammer. It's just a question of how much damage he can do with it before we take it away from him."

Should the average investor liquidate his portfolio every time he sees Dennis Hastert or Tom Delay on CSPAN? Not necessarily, although Dow Jones gains during Congressional sessions have been rare, they typically occurred when Congress had a high approval rating. According to a recent poll by The Gallup Organization, only 35% of the U.S. currently approves of the way Congress is handling its job.

  2. ...there are some rumors that his cancer treatment meds give him an advantage over others ...

    ..

..i don't discount this ........it's just very strange how someone who was a "bench" type cyclist (nothing special) before his cancer becoming a 7 time tour de france champion .

    WTF?

He was the Junior (U18) National Triathong Champion in his teenage years, and then swtiched to just cycleing in HS, and was on the Olympic team very early on. Endurance sports take years of training and development that build the body up, it is not as easy as a team sport like football and baseball.

I have done all these sports, and I can attest to it.

Yes he has great genetics, but you have to train and work heard to put those gifts to work. He is on his bike 6- 8 hours a day.

as for the greatest acheivment of our life times, I'll leave that up to mr tom brady and mr micheal jordan and mr tiger woods....

ill put Jordan in that category, but give me a brake about Brady.

Lance is in another leauge when it comes to training and winning and total domination of a sport.

As far as Cancer helping him out with cycling. He has even said it himself, without Cancer he would not be the cyclist he is today. He lost so much weight and muscle it transformed his body. And if you was given drugs to help him with cancer, it was to save his life and not to help him win the Tour de France. He didn't even know if he was goign to live.

Most of you don't know this, but I had the same type of cancer Lance had, and I was 19 years old at the time, and thnakfully mine didn't progress as bad as his. All the drugs pumped into our bodies do crazy things.

This is all from personal experiences since I was a triathlete, runner, cyclist, and beat cancer also. But you don't see me in the Tour de France, so his training and a genetic gift , got him there.

thats my rant for the week

  3. Wow :o:(,

This seems to be a regular occurance with Stryke in Miami clubs. I think Stryke is a very talented DJ and Producer. and the club owners and promoters recognize this. But the Miami crowd is so resistent and non supportive of techno, it is a bad business decision to have a techno based resident or even a headliner on a regular basis.

Why do you think, Richie, Mistress Barbara, Adam Beyer, Marco Corolla, etc do not play Miami outside of WMC.

Also, look at the lack of success at Privilege, and the short lived Stryke residency at Maze, err I mean Office Depot.

Good Luck to Greg, it is just a shame that he has to travel to respect, a decent crowd, and to even find work. >:(

  4. $20 Cover and the Right Zip Code

    July 22, 2005

NYC map.JPGAnd you thought your doorman was picky.

We all know that most trends start in Europe, so you never know, this could creep across the ocean just in time for New Year's.

Over in Denmark, a nightclub decided to discriminate not on looks, age, fashion, or vibe, but rather on . . . postal code.

According to the Copenhagen Post, Club Retro, a hotspot in Helsingor (Elsinore), has had a history of trouble with patrons from two neighboring towns--Niva and Kokkedal.

    Club Retro's solution?

They now forbid anyone from Niva or Kokkedal. Specifically, they deny access to anyone who lives in post codes between 2980 and 2990.

This could be a covert way of racial profiling, as the trouble-making patrons were believed to have immigrant backgrounds, and those postal codes skew towards immigrants.

Not everyone is thrilled with the new policy.

"I can understand that some people don't want their nightclubs hurt by people who cause problems, but I think it seems like unfair discrimination to take a whole postal district and say that people from there can't come in," said MP Peter Skaarup, chairman of parliament's justice committee and from the Danish People's Party.

Will the trend catch on? Who knows. But I can already see the poor souls from Queens and the Bronx, scratching their driver's license and changing their zip code to 10022.

  5. The majority of them are not Breakdancing and BBoy freindly, because you will find very few places that play breaks, DNB, Jungle etc.

Most of the big clubs play House and Hip Hop with other genres thrown in the mix a little.

They will not throw you out but, you aint going to circles at most clubs. There is many lounges and VIP area that take a up major areas of each club which is not condusive to breakin'.

You will find breakin and cirves at some of the festivals, Ice Palace parties, I/O, and other events.

  7. The front desk/ receptionist.

she just irritates the crap out of me. :o

She makes a big deal out of everything. I walk out of the building for a meeting, and she will say like" taking a break?" "short work day?"

I spend a crap load of time already at the office and on my phone working even when I am home and ont he weekend, but I don't have to report every little step and activity to you.

  8. Dear Alcohol,

First & foremost, let me tell you that I'm a huge

fan of yours. As my friend, you always seem to be

there when needed. The perfect post-work cocktail, a

beer at the game, and you're even around in the

holidays, hidden inside chocolates as you warm us when

we're stuck in the midst of endless family gatherings.

However, lately I've been wondering about your

intentions. While I want to believe that you have my

best interests at heart, I feel that your influence

has led to some unwise consequences:

    1. Phone calls: While I agree with you that

communication is important,I question the suggestion

that any conversation of substance or necessity takes

place after 2 a.m. Why would you make me call those

ex's when I know for a fact they do not want to hear

from me during the day, let alone all hours of the

    night?

    2. Eating: Now, you know I love a good meal, but why

do you suggest that I eat a taco with chili sauce,

along with a big Italian meatball and some stale chips

(washed down with WINE & topped off with a Kit at

after a few cheese curls & chili cheese fries)? I'm an

eclectic eater, but I think you went too far this

    time.

    3. Clumsiness: Unless you're subtly trying to tell me

that I need to do more yoga to improve my balance, I

see NO need to hammer the issue home by causing me to

fall down. It's completely unnecessary, and the black

& blue marks that appear on my body mysteriously the

next day are beyond me. Similarly, it should never

take me more than 45 seconds to get the front door key

    into the lock.

    4. Furthermore: The hangovers have GOT to stop. This

is getting ridiculous. I know a little penance for our

previous evening's debauchery may be in order, but the

3pm hangover immobility is completely unacceptable. My

entire day is shot. I ask that, if the proper

precautions are taken (water, vitamin B, bread

products, aspirin) prior to going to slee p/passing

out face down on the kitchen floor with a bag of

popcorn, the hangover should be minimal & in no way

    interfere with my daily activities.

Alcohol, I have enjoyed our friendship for some years

now & would like to ensure that we remain on good

terms. You've been the invoker of great stories, the

provocation for much laughter, and the needed

companion when I just don't know what to do with the

    extra money in my pockets.

In order to continue this friendship, I ask that you

carefully review my grievances above & address them

immediately. I will look for an answer no later than

Friday 3pm (pre-happy hour) on your possible reply

    Thank you,

    Your biggest fan

THINGS THAT ARE DOWNRIGHT IMPOSSIBLE TO SAY WHEN

    DRUNK:

    1. Thanks, but I don't want to have sex.

    2. Nope, no more beer for me.

    3. Sorry, but you're not really my type.

    4. Good evening, officer. Isn't it lovely out tonight?

    5. Oh, I couldn't. No one wants to hear me sing

On that note: I feel sorry for people who don't drink.

They wake up in the morning and that's the best they

are going to feel all day.

  9. coffee :D

I usually make a pot of coffee. Then I pou some sugar and creamer in it and then mix it all in a blender, and then put it all in a few water bottles and place them in the refrigerator.

It usually lasts a few days and its is refreshing.

  10. POD

will you using a gun or a camera. :o I never know with you? ???

POD spends his time between ridding Miami of scum, and the other half photgraphing drunken club goers and hot models.
