  1. CHATEAU NOIR is Still Going Strong!!! BIG Thanks to all those who've come by CHATEAU NOIR to show support. We're past the two month point, and still growing and going strong, thanks to each of you who've brought your beautiful energy into the space. THANK YOU! We've got a lot more in store in the coming months... special events, guest DJs, and lots more record release parties (yay!!!). Of course none of this would be possible without the continued support, guidance, time and commitment of the fabulous Heavenly C, Joe B, Lydia Rhodes, Karl-Jason, Hunter Wilson and DJ Shifty. So, here's the plug for the week... If you haven't made it down, you're missing a great party. The space is phat, the music is fantastic, and the people ... well, the people are "family". We don't put out flyers in the street and invite just anybody ... we invite THOSE WHO KNOW: promotions through the six degrees of seperation keeps the energy beautiful. CHATEAU NOIR takes place weekly at NATIVA, 5 East 19th Street between 5th & Broadway in NYC from 7pm until about midnight. Happy hour is from 7-9pm with half-priced Apple Martinis, Cosmos and Beers. DJ Shifty and friends (this week BILLBOARD MAGAZINE'S Dance Music Editor MICAHEL PAOLETTA) provide a soothing, eclectic, electric and fantastic lounge vibe downstairs, while Hunter & I trade opportunities to dig deep for only the fiercest house cutz on the main floor. FREE before 9, $5 reduced admission after 9 with email.
  2. DJ SPINNA graced our decks last week in celebration of the release of his latest mix CD on Shadow Records "Diggin thru the Crates" -- and boy, did he ever dig thru those crates on Thursday! Make sure you pick up the CD if you missed getting a copy at the party ... definitely worthy of any connoisseur's collection. Also, if you get a chance, check out the magnificent writeup that HX gave CHATEAU NOIR for the MOREL release party we had a few weeks back. That was another one for the books This Thursday, Hunter Wilson and myself will be providing that patented deep house "soundscape" on the main floor, while special guest DJ Brion V. [HX / Open / Rebel Rebel] will be spinning an intoxicatingly wicked brew of deep and crunchy electronic-laced grooves from 9-11pm in the Goddard lounge, joining our own DJ Shifty. See him. Hear him. Feel him. Experience him. Don't forget happy hour from 7-9 with half-priced Cosmos, Apple Martinis and beers. We hope you'll join us for an evening of purely delicious aural delights. CHATEAU NOIR takes place every Thursday at NATIVA, 5 East 19th Street (between 5th & Bwy) from 7pm to midnight (after work & after!). The purpose is to bring together like-minded, creative, fun people to basque in the beauty of each other's energy while enjoying the fiercest musical vibe. Regular admission is $10 (print this email our for $5 reduced admission). Hope you can make it down:) Jon Martin
  3. Many thanks to those who've made it out to CHATEAU NOIR Thursdays at Nativa, which has quickly become one of the best music industry nights in the city. This week, SHADOW RECORDS, INSTINCT-ONLINE, MIXER MAGAZINE AND SKYY VODKA will be on hand to celebrate the release of "DIGGIN THRU THE CRATES" which is the new mix CD from DJ SPINNA, featuring many of the legendary tracks from the GUIDANCE catalog. SKYY cocktails will be free 8-9pm. SPINNA will be on from about 9-11. Be sure to check out this week's HX magazine for the scoop on our last special event with Richard Morel - it was off da hook! CHATEAU NOIR takes place every Thursday from 7pm - midnight (sometimes later) with your hosts Joe B (King Street Sounds), Heavenly C (Expansions) and supreme vocalist Lydia Rhodes. Music for the evening is provided by Jon Martin (that's me!), Hunter Wilson and DJ Shifty. $10 admission - doors open 7pm - midnight. 21+ Hope to see some CPers come out to get drunk on us. Love, respect and peace
  4. I used to do HR for an IB ... all the stories above are accurate. If you're all about money, greed, and back-stabbing anyone to get ahead, you can make a lot of money - as long as you make the bank a lot MORE money. I would NEVER recommend it - the longer you're in the game, the more you depend on it, unless you specifically went in for 5 years or so to make some quick dough and start your own surf shop or something. The bankers who've been around more than 5-10 years are the nastiest, bitterest, most discontented people I've ever known, and they make huge fortunes but NEVER get to enjoy it, and have NO LIVES. Then they get pushed out because they're too old and they die bitter, wrinkled, nasty and alone (since they spent all their time making money instead of friends). Better to marry an Investment Banker - you never have to see them and you've got all the time in the world to spend their money. lol.
  5. I didn't know Mario well, but I did have the opportunity to speak with him from time to time and I know he was a (very animated) sweetheart, as well as being a top-notch record promoter. I know he will surely be missed by many. My condolences to you, and to his friends and family. We've lost another friend. :(
  6. I really like this. Thanks. (And I'm not religious either, but quite spiritual)
  7. I've been using mine for a year and a half and they haven't broken yet! They are HEAVY though, so when it's time to get another pair, I'm just gonna get the 600s.
  8. what about if your bf/gf goes out for the night and doesn't let you know that they're going?
  9. Beginning this Thursday, there's something new to do after work... 10. With all the craziness going on, I thought it might be nice to have a fam-and-headz-oriented get-together around Thanksgiving to take time and celebrate / appreciate what we've got TODAY, and celebrate family, life and this thing called house music. Of course, all house fam is invited (this means you!) ***THIS IS A ONE TIME THANG*** Wednesday, November 21 - 9pm-2am FREE if we know ya, or if ya email me, $3 to strangers (cause it's a family affair) DJ Brando (Ananda Project/Hell) and ME on the decks Conflama! @Pyramid 101 Avenue A - between 6th & 7th - NYC visit www.perpetualgrooves.com for more info email jon@perpetualgrooves.com and I'll list as many people as you like.
  11. I wanted to let you all know about an underground party that happens every Saturday. There's no glowsticks, and maybe only 200-300 people, but the music is slammin and you don't have to have some shitty security guard shove his arm up your ass to get in. It's called "Chamber" and it's at Pyramid - 101 Avenue A between 6th & 7th. 10pm - 4am (or later). The party is TRUE underground style, gay, straight, in-between, white, black, asian, latino ... whatever. Dress up or dress down. Drink or don't. We don't give a fuck 'cause in the end it's all about the vibe - deep, soulful, tech, classic - it's all right here. The DJs are Joey Vega, DJ Trey and myself. Print out this email for FREE admission this Saturday. Period.
  12. one of the most up-and-coming DJs in New York! He is responsible for the series of "Loft Preservation Society" parties that have been held throughout the city in various lofts. He plays all over the scene, from CentroFly to Splash and back again. I heard him at SF maybe three months ago with Morales and he kicked ass. I would suggest that Halloween is going to be great at Vinyl (Danny Tenaglia) or CentroFly (Eve of Souls w/Vega, Morales & Humphries) don't know which is more your flavor, but there ya go.
  13. This Saturday night, the new East Village House Fest entitled "the Chamber" continues, and you are all invited to come check it out as this is THE new downtown Saturday night party. Resident DJs are Jon Martin (myself), T.O. Sweet (the Candy Store 89.1FM) and Joey Vega (Downtown Records/Soul Heaven). The time has finally come to dance downtown again! In case you never went to the LEGENDARY industrial/punk/new wave/afterhours/ etc. parties at the Pyramid, the space is VERY conducive to "the underground" experience. It's located at 101 Avenue A (between 6th & 7th Streets) and the doors open at 10. It's free before 11, $7 after. Hope to see you there!
