The Sequence Segue 02.13.2002 Ultra kicks off it’s hip-hop label Ultra Records is kicking off it’s new hip-hop label, Sequence Records, with some fresh talent: Check it out; Dan the Automator, Babu of Dilated Peoples, Slum Village, and Nature. Dan the Automator's Wanna Buy a Monkey is set to drop Feb. 19 - the first Sequence release. Next up is Babu The Dilated Junkie presenting Duck Season Vol. 1 (April 30). In the summer, expect Detroit's hip-hop trio Slum Village to drop a DJ mixed CD on Sequence featuring their original productions and guest appearances by a whole gaggle of geese (Dilated Peoples, Quasimoto, Defari and M.O.P). “With the major label cookie-cutter approach to music, it's important that labels like Sequence are around to be a platform for new hip-hop artists," says owner/president Patrick Moxey.

Feds rule in favor of non-drug rave paraphenalia The government has decided it’s okay for you to take masks, glow sticks and pacifiers to raves. The question is, do you still want to? Take your masks, pacifiers and glowsticks and trash ‘em: The US Gov (District Court) has decided they’re okay. Following an American Civil Liberties Union challenge to the federal ban on all rave paraphenalia as “drug paraphenalia,” Judge G. Thomas Porteous ruled that “there is no conclusive evidence that eliminating the banned items has reduced the amount of ecstasy use at raves.” The ACLU went into action against the Feds in August 2001 after the Drug Enforcement Agency threatened to shut down a New Orleans dance club if the club’s owners did not confiscate the items in question – a First Amendment violation!

Rennie Pilgrem has been a leader in the development of electronic music and breaks for over a decade. He is credited for creating and terming the genre "nu skool breaks", which he helped pioneer. He owns and operates one of the worlds most respected and spectacular labels, TCR or Thursday Club recordings.
