  3. aw, c'mon folks. seriously, like 20 people have read this but no one's been? anyone know of any other daytime "tea" dance parties? FG
  4. I'm lost since body+soul closed down. I read about other sunday parties that seem a similar vibe... --Love, from NYC @ Arc, 5:30pm. --The 718 Sessions, Water Street Bar, 6pm. --Sunday Sessions, Suite 16, 5pm anyone been to these, got any info on the beats, the crowd, the vibe? thanks, firegirl
  5. B3 will be close for repairs this week... because Corbin, Glenn and Sherwood tore the fuckin roof off it on sat. I can not begin to tell you how impressed I was with the level of talent they all used for last night. I thought these guys were talented before, but that was insane! That was the best night of music I have heard in a long time. They all picked such phenomenal records and knew exactly what to do with them. had a great time. we closed the joint with a full packed screaming house all the way. recommend it for anyone looking for a FREE (can you believe it?) Saturday night dance party. Pepper K & FireGirl
  6. MUGZ: How can you say that. After all the hot moments we had at the 6th element, LOL , btw it's marc, pepper k here not firegirl. Hey rocker, how you livin. would love to hang with you. What are you doing tonight? -marc ps: for every body: B3 is low key dress, like vinal and it is a bar, so 21 is best, but i bet 18 is good if you just walk in and don't go to the bar.
  7. Hey party people! Tonight the party 'vinylholic ' at B3 celebrates one year. Dj's corbin Dooley and DJ Powder will be rockin out the big beats tonight at B3, Ave B and 3rd st. 10pm till 4am. This party and their pictures are in this weeks Time Out. I was at Corbin's house last night and got a sneak preview of tonights his set for tonight and it's gonna BLAST! We're going for it tonight, so come down and dance with us. Please say hi if you come down and see us. Or just ask one of the djs (when they're are not spinning) who Pepper K is. Hugz to all. love Pepper K and Fire Girl:)
  8. you guys are joking, right? that huge outdoor market... with all the striped tents...and the dozens of individual vendors.... and like, a hundered people milling around...the one you have to walk around/through/by to get to Virgin...the place you go to get all of your shoping done in one shot? ....you didn't see that? FireGirl
  9. hey vampie, long time, no chat. : ) hope you're doing well, I see you have new status as club planet vixen. bummer that dt's playing thanksgiving eve...I'm supposed to be out of town that night, DANG! FG
  10. oh, can someone tell me when danny's playing at factory? and "hey there" to ya, boa boy FireGirl
  11. ---umm, actually, no. humanity: the vibe there is unlike anything else. and a lot of that has to do with danny encouraging everyone to "be yourself". life: there have been many "last night a dj saved my life" occurrances. when everything is wrong and you can't see any light and then you look around at this jumping crowd throwing hands in the air in bliss. and among all the crap going on, you find yourself smiling. city: this is a man who gave up a world tour to stay in nyc and plan for us grieving city folks. he's thrown numerous benefits for the wtc relief. he's done a great deal to show that his heart is here. 'nuff said FireGirl
  12. Baktun is one of those blink-and-you'll-miss-it clubs in the meatpacking district. it's one of the last bastions of the "underground" in that it's a good place to go for real grooves. when I was last there, there was a dj booth right in front with a SMALL dance floor, and a bar/chill area in the back. as I said, I haven't been in ages, so things might've changed. FG
  13. I really have nothing new to add to this conversation. I just really really really dig Danny. : ) Danny Tenaglia restores my faith in humanity, in life, in this city. I have yet to be at one of his parties, here or miami, where I wasn't screaming my head off from ecstacy (the emotional kind, not the little pills). so if you're ever at vinyl, yes, the crazy chick with the shaved head who's jumping and screaming is me. don't worry, I'm harmless. unfortunately, he's so hard-hitting it's kept me from the clubs lately...I don't have the energy to keep up with him. I either end up awkwardly flailing coz my body's so tired there's no rythm left in it, or end up frustrated that my body can't keep up with my soul. ah, the irony. : ) on halloween, vinyl was selling I-heart-NY t-shirts--they had written "DAN" before the "NY" so it read "I-heart-danNY"...I almost bought one on the spot. I plan to make one soon. FireGirl
  14. lavendermenace -- haven't been to baktun in ages...what's the crowd like tonight? FireGirl
  15. I'm flying solo tonight coz everyone is doing their own thing. There's a party for the launch of SPIT (new mag or paper) at the Cheesecake Factory in Williamsburg at 10pm. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory is playing at midnight at 145 Ludlow Street. Vinyl has a great lineup for tonight and there's always friendly faces there. I've gone there alone many times and always found people to talk to. hope you find something good. FireGirl
  16. Personally, I abhor bathroom attendants. especially in tiny crap bathrooms. I find it offensive that I have to pay someone for the priviledge of relieving myself. and I hate the way the attendants hoard all the towels so you're stupidly left there dripping searching for a towel and then have to feel ingratiated towards them. I think it's a cheap and low way for the owners to make $. but... I also know that the person in there is just trying to make a living like everyone else. and it's not their fault that the club charges for the stupid function of handing someone a towel. I tip $1 the first time I go into the bathroom and I make eye contact with the attendant so they remember I'm the one that tipped them. I figure that first $1 sets me for the night, unless I'm going in there, like, 20x or something. I try to fill my water bottle in the bathroom. if the attendant takes it and fills it for me, I tip a $1, which is still much cheaper than the $5 for a new bottle. FG
  17. mugz: sorry I missed last night...I've been fighting an cold and lost last night. one of those icky-green-things-are-coming-out type of colds. had to stay in bed. sounded like a nice vibe. and Marc couldn't make it coz he was spinning with some friends at Blah Blah lounge in Park Slope last night. hope to catch the next one FG
  18. oddly, Saturday is the one night I really haven't experienced at vinyl. the lineup for tonight looks great. though, I don't think I have the energy for it, kinda burned myself out last week with all the halloweenie events. wish I were going to be around at thanksgiving, would be great to see oakie. FireGirl
  19. call me girly-mushy, but I loved Groove. I get jazzed up whenever I watch it. It was just so great to see a movie made about my culture--and that seemed to get it right. I mean, the movie takes place in only one day and attempts to hit all key aspects & different groups of the rave culture. that's not easy to do. I felt like "Go" was hollywood's idea of what rave culture is like. and I agree that Modulations and Better Living... are great, though hard to find unless you want to buy them for $20 off the websites. the book Modulations is a great history of electronic music, though it kinds reads like dry like stereo instructions. FireGirl
  20. if you've ever seen "better living through circuitry" you totally get just how intelligent BT is. he seems to have this incredible methodical scientific side to what otherwise seems and organic experience. his interview there is what made me want to see him during his recent gig at CentroFly. and re: the whole britney spears, n'sync remixes...thank god we have someone remixing these! that's just what crap pop needs...someone to try to make these worth listening to. peace, FireGirl
  21. phuturephunk, you got it down, man. amen! that bit about the shiny shirts is hysterical. problem is that the icky crowd brings in the dough. most club owners don't really want people to dance, because if you're dancing all night, you're too busy to spend lots of money at the bar. the icky crowd spends most of the time drinking and just enough time filling up the dance floor to make the place look good. plus, for some ridiculous Gulliani driven reason, the poser-wannabe shiny-shirt-wearing, cheap-hoochie, rude, neanderthals are considered respectable and desirable society. and all of us trying to practice PLUR are considered slacker, drugged out, vandalizing troublemakers that bring down property values and cause all the evils in the city. so a group of adults dressed funky, bouncing to music and hugging in a warehouse in dumbo is somehow more of a threat and less desirable when compared to a bunch of molesting, vomiting, cokehead, brawlers at some velvet rope club uptown. unless of course you take the latter bunch and put them in the warehouse and charge $30 at the door and $15 a drink...then it is contributing to the economic development of the city. alas, this seems to be the case for all of nyc, whether it's housing, art, music, performances, etc...the young "underground" folk move in, create something good, the icky trend chasers want to be a part of it, infiltrate it, and then it becomes just like all the other crap joints. if vinyl ever goes under, I will be inconsolable. re: the lunatarium --since this place has been giving us some good times lately, how 'bout we all keep in on the DL so it stays around, k? peace, FireGirl
  22. sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. Personally, I've always thought CentroFly sucked and have avoided it. but with twilo closed down, most of the good acts have been flocking to CentroFly. which unfortunately, doesn't change the suck factor any. it's a crappy layout, a dancefloor that becomes nothing but a hallway, usually icky poser-wannabe crowd, and I hate any place with bathroom attendants--as if I should feel pressured to pay someone $1 because I have to take care of a vital bodily function. it's a shame that it's not managed better. the place just seems like one big vortex of bad vibes. peace, FireGirl
  23. Mugzy: congrats, man! hosting your own hoity toity gig! yay for you! I've always thought of Fun as sooo NOT fun, but I'm willing to give it another try if you're running the show. I'll be there with a smile, smirk, or similarly appropriate expression. and...um...did anyone else wonder "what the..." when they got to the random interlude from dbilas--"Support the underground, people..." up there? that was like when they interrupt Gilligan's Island to show the test pattern. I was waiting for "we now return you to your regularly scheduled posting". ...or maybe it's just me. FireGirl
  24. now that twilo's gone, it's a bit harder to find trance. I think vinyl's good for progressive house. my experience has been that Danny (fridays) gets darker and deeper part way into the set, and hits garage towards the wee hours. there have been a lot of trance acts at CentroFly lately, which seems to be picking up where twilo left off. but unfortunately, CentroFly is a crappy venue (IMO). Flyer is usually good for pointing out new acts and venues. FireGirl
