  1. out of curiosity - has any of you been watching the news as of late? did we notice that no one knows where bin laden is? the russians claim (post factum, of course), that they knew where he was prior to tuesday's events. now they havent got a clue. the pakistanis claim the same thing. it has been proven by the russia's afgan experience that afganistan not a country into which you want to go with ground forces; its a hellish country in terms of terrain and weather. however, it is impossible to fight this by air forces only. the man hides in caves - are you gonna bomb every cave? are you gonna condemn the entire country, the entire people, because the extremist freaks are the ones in power? its not a democracy over there, these people didnt elect the taliban - its a militia government, i.e. they took over in a military coup. ground forces, however miserable the prospects of the benefits of it are, are going to have to go there and hunt bin laden and co on foot. because thats the only way to do it, he isnt anxious to come out and talk to us. and many innocent people are going to die, and as trigger-happy as so many of us are right now, that will only mean more funerals and memorial services.
  2. as far as i can see, there are two kinds of new yorkers: those who swear that its the best city in the world, and those who swear that its the absolute worst. i am one of those new yorkers who are not very fond of their city. in fact, i transferred to a university in boston, because nyc just didnt do it for me in the last year or so. (i moved to nyc 6 years ago). but what happened on tuesday left me feeling violated, because nyc is my home, even if i am tired of it at times. i want to come home, and hopefully, i will come home in a week or two. i was surprised to find myself angry about the wtc, and angry not only because of the unnecessary loss of human life, but also because i feel like someone came into my house and turned it upside down. tuesday was hellish as i was trying to get through to my family and friends, but the thought of moving somewhere else did not really cross my mind just yet. i guess new york rubbed off on me more than i ever thought it would...
  3. since i dont get any of the jewish holidays off, i will only be able to come home to nyc for yom kippur...although in light of recent events it doesnt sound like a particularly safe choice, since it is a big holiday and all, and anti-israeli/jewish sentiment tends to rise during such times. =(
  4. i just want to comment on a few points first of all, if you kill bin laden, or whoever else is the ringleader, that wont punish them personally. their belief system is very different from ours, and this war to them is a holy war. if they die in battle - what greater honor than that? and as someone pointed out, bin laden and co. have a lot of supporters all over the middle east and probably in other regions as well, so by getting rid of one or two, we wont get rid of all. and then he has a chance to become a religious hero, a saint, if you will, who was slain in battle. that could possibly escalate the violence as means of retribution. secondly, the US tried to set israel and arab leaders down for some heart-to-heart talks for a while. the problem with them is that they dont want to kiss and make up. thousands of lives have been lost on both sides, and neither one wants to forgive and forget. they simply cant. while israel seems to be a little more rational from where we stand and at least less aggressive, they refuse to make significant concessions to the arabs, and the arabs, fueled by religious pride, among other things, refuse to make any concessions to israel or the US, whom they see as the chief ally of the greatest "evil" - israel. so while they have been bombing the israelis for quite some time now, they figured that its about time to open another front in this war, and fucked around with us. the images of kids dancing in the streets are disturbing and sickening, no doubt about that. however, we must remember that those are not all the kids of the arab countries (i forget where the footage comes from). these are children of fundamental religious muslim tradition, which is also followed by the taliban and many people in pakistan as well. there are many others who are scared to death sitting in their homes with the border between afganistan and other places closed, because they are afraid that they will die if we decide to wipe out the whole country. they have nothing to do with any of this insanity. im no expert on islam, but the more moderate stance of it definitely does not support slaughter of innocent people. nether does christianity or judaism, for that matter. these people who aim to destroy as many civillians as they can in the us and israel and other places seem sick to us, but they are driven by their own belief system, which allows for such actions. it must be noted that this belief system is not true for everyone living in those countries. we would step down to the level of these terrorists if we blindly went after the entire nation or the entire people. genocide is rarely a sound means of international relations. guess this pretty much sums it up...i might be off on some points, do feel free to let me know. the arab-israel relations are complicated enough to get lost in the numerous wars and arguments
  5. brown hair/blondish highlights, anyone?

  9. the most depressing album ever has got to be george michael's "older"...but thats for the kind of depression when you dont want it to get better as far as bon jovi, try "destination anywhere" (the whole cd). its diff. from the band's recordings, and also is a lot sadder and of course, pink floyd works =) btw, PFloyd40 , "floyd" seems to be your answer to all musical questions =)

  18. EXIT! last time i was there it sucked royally - labor day weekend, the "im new in town" crowd, all just turned 18, all short! i was dancing with midgets, holy crap. no, im lying...i came back after labor day with a friend of mine (from out of town, he REALLY wanted to go). i hated it, the music sucked, the people sucked, i was dead sober, which did not help given the circumstances. he, on the other hand, loved it - he was rolling for the first time and he has never been to a club that big (he is from boston). exit sucks...
  19. you suck too, im broke and i wanna go so badly!
  20. a friend of mine left to ibiza last nite....aww, i hate him!
  21. um, yeah...riiiiiight! and dancing in clubs is not *at all* sexual in nature...nooo, its because girls come there in almost nothing and guys parade around barechested that there is NO SEX happening anywhere whatsoever. and those couples we all have seen going at it on the couches (at exit anyway) are figments of imagination. yup, thats what it is =)
  22. i have a problem, too - can someone help me? ive had a bon jovi obsession for years, and it has gotten worse after i saw them live in concert at giant's stadium a few weeks ago. i sang along with the rest of the lunatics....i have since completed my collection of bon jovi cd's (i have ALL of the band releases and both of jon's solo albums are coming in the mail soon). i signed up for the fan site email news....this is all very troubling. the one good thing that came out of this is that i stopped listening to the z100 cheeze =) but i need HELP!
  23. bar: chocolate martini's, apple martini's, tequila sunrise, liquid heroin (although i hate yeiger in any other form), long island iced tea's, if the bartender is lazy or cant make anything else club: shots, shots, shots! cheap (er), fast and to the point. crackhouse sounds interesting...i will be sampling that next weekend =)
  24. i watch MTV and VH1 sometimes..especially when they have concert footage (i think VH1 does that more than MTV). other than that, its TRL horror, or Mandy, or some cheesy shit like that. they have gone down a lot, and wtf is up with the times when they actually show videos? am i home to watch it 7-2pm? no. am i awake to catch the insomniac's music theater from 2am on? no! well, if i am awake im not home at that time anyway. that sucks about both of these channels these days, they used to actually show videos...miss those days
  25. i use kazaa, but i think its the same thing as morpheus. they look the same, and load the same thing when i click on either one. u can get kazaa at www.kazaa.com
