OK here are the stats... WHAT DOES THE PILL DO? The pill prevents pregnancy in a number of ways) but basically it prevents ovulation (release of the egg from the ovary) by maintaining a steady level of hormones at mid-cycle. Without an egg, fertilization, and therefore, pregnancy cannot occur. The pill, when taken properly and consistently, has an effectiveness rate of approximately 99.6%, meaning that less than one woman in one hundred becomes pregnant while using the pill in the course of one year. It is possible to become pregnant while on the Pill, especially if you miss a dosage or more. While taking the pill it is imperative that you take your pill everyday at the same time for it to be most effective. As far as your girlfriends mother is concerned, my bet would be that she wasn't taking the pills properly or she is lying. Of course, I dont know what the stats are on birthcontrol some 15 or so years ago. Best advise, use condoms anyway, or atleast some other form of bc, like a spermicide, a vaginal insert or condoms. And remember, the pill does NOT prevent STD's like HIV. Good Luck ------------------ The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.
