  1. i have to say though weyes that when I went to WMC.. I never really dressed down. I always wore a short skirt or a fancy top... sex sells.. especially when you have black booty... :)

but they do turn people away... i've seen it at space.. doesn't matter how much you pay into those places... if they don't like what you look like or act.. yo outta there

hmmm....Space has no dress code during the WMC other than no shorts (and that is sometimes disregarded) - and the rest of the time its the most relaxed of the big clubs in Miami (no sneakers is all i've even heard of there). maybe it was something else....trust me - they are more than happy to take your $80 for the cover charge there....

  2. as i mentioned in my first post - it was wet :)

at least its a lot warmer there even when raining so when the showers passed through at the BBC1 party and at the Remix hotel - everyone just danced in the rain :)

and yes, the dress code is severly relaxed - guys who could never get into a place like Mansion or Cameo on a Sat nite can get in no problem if you have a presale ticket (though if you got to Cameo after 12 it was a bit of a mess at the door but all presale people did get in). granted it was $50-$70 presale for FMIF at Cameo ($100 to $150 at the door) and $100 for Tiesto that Sat nite so its not like they want to turn away the business.

i did see the Scumfrog partying at the Swedish House Mafia party. funny/stupid thing was 2 girls he was with had Scumfrog t-shirts on.

  3. it was my 6th WMC i think...

    highlights were:

bumping into David Guetta so many times by the end of the WMC he was coming over to us to say hi LOL.

private party at Mynt with Dubfire, Nic and Cedric with open bar for a couple of hours :)

Wet Grooves at Opium (not too packed but a lot of LA people there and good times)

    Sasha and Digweed at Mansion

    Danny Tenaglia at Twilo

BBC1 pool party (Tong, Morillo, Cedric, Guetta, Zabs & Nic, Hawtin, Knuckles)

Swedish House Mafia at Ink (Ingrosso, Axwell, Angello with Guetta chillin' in the DJ booth)

free parties at Remix Hotel with Dubfire, Mark Knight, Tommy Sunshine, Zabiela among many others

F*ck Me I'm Famous with David Guetta, Armand Van Helden, Fatboy Slim, Bob Sinclair and Joacim Gaurand (sp?). funniest thing was seeing Scott Storch being relegated to the back room (usually VIP) and leaving after 10 minutes of Fatboy Slim and Armand Van Helden spinning.

Cedric and friends (including Second Sun) at Mynt

only complaints: wettest WMC ever. $12 for a mixed drink, $14 for a redbull/vodka. bottles of kettle one at $250 at Mansion seemed like a bargain!

being at Space for 4.5 hours and never seeing Erick Morillo at his party due to fire marshall/occupancy issues!!! grrr

  4. Jonathan Peters will be playing sunday at Rehab during the day and playing afterhours at Empire Sunday night/ Monday morning.

well i know now where to avoid that weekend :) so i guess he didn't decide to quit DJing after the WMC like he initally threated to do. oh well - can't win them all :(

    other events:

Club Rubber and Playboy are doing 3 days of parties that weekend at the Palms.

On Sat nite at their big club event they have Robbie Rivera and Eddie Halliwell.

On Sunday at the pool party competing with Rehab is Cedric Gervais, others TBA.

Sunday nite i'll be at Tao for Morillo. did the Sharam thing last year - def was one of the best nights out in 2006 but gotta go with Erick this year.

  5. PS - it will be interesting this year to see if the new pool parties at the Mirage, TAO, etc., will make any meaningful impact on Rehab. if a random clubber was staying at one of those hotels and knew i could get into their pool parties with relative ease, good chance they'd go. good thing i can get in with no wait a rehab if i want to go... :)

  6. Coo1....

What's up buddy...as a matter of fact I remember you quoting this same story.

However, this is how it works...The Casino has to make the guest feel invited. So of course they are going to tell you it's first come first serve and call this number and you can get one. But honestly from someone that had two cabanas Opening Day last year.....It's not first come first serve on big weekends.

On holiday weekends or opening day. There are pretty much no cabanas...You have 20 Casino Cabanas that are based upon the play of the player. Now what they will do is if the Casino Player doesn't show up by noon. They will sell the cabana to someone that is asking down there at the pool. But honestly its by sheer luck that someone would ever get one that way. In regards to the other 18 by Rehab Promotions that goes to a select clientle that is made up of Celebs, Regulars, Friends of Past Clients. And all those Cabanas are on the North End of the Pool. Where all the action is...Casino guest have the South end and the South end of what's called Rodeo Dr. Which is in the middle of the two pools elevated in the sky that overlooks either side.

So that is the low down. Honestly to get a cabana at Rehab for a big weekend you should plan on dropping some serious money.

Now in regards to the off weekends. That's a different story. You can usually call the pool or get in touch with a many of different host around the city and either way you should be able to secure a cabana. I will say that even on off weekends cabana placement works the same.

Contact Casino/Pool MGMT - South End of Pool

Contact Rehab Promotions - North End of Pool (More money better action!)

no question $ talks in getting a cabana.

i think my main point was that obviously plenty of people had been told the same thing - doesn't matter the weekend...just call at 9am and if you get lucky you have a cabana. granted the prices for that weekend were in the low $x,xxx with the bottle minimums, etc., but they gave off the impression that at least some cabanas could be had by the lucky few that called early. basically it reminded me of the old days of trying to get concert tix by phone from ticketmaster...call and redial and redial and if it rang you were lucky even after an hour.

luckily a friends brother is a big roller at the hard rock and typically gets comped cabanas so hopefully he'll be there memorial day weekened...

  7. glad you had a good time Weyes :)

i was at a birthday dinner on Sat nite that ran waaaaay longer than expected plus i got some bad news about a family member which i won't go into here except to say i wasn't in the mood for partying.

the DJ you heard in the VIP may have been Kent Christian - he is one of the VIP room residents and usually plays around 11/12ish.

i caught Lawler's set back on Dec 30th at Vanguard and was pretty unimpressed that night too. i liked his older Dark Drums cds and even the electro stuff he played a lot in 05/06.

At least you had a good time overall - that's the most important thing IMO.

  8. hmmm...well last year we called the Hard Rock directly to get a cabana for Memorial Day weekend...they told us to call the pool area directly at 9am as mentioned above a week before. on the sunday before mem day weekend, by the time we got through to the pool area after over an hour later of constant redialing, they were all taken. i had asked and the Hard Rock told me it was first-come/first-serve...no other requirements...and based on how many busy signals i got from the direct hard rock phone # that morning, no question plenty of others had the same info/idea.

  9. i walked in there a couple of weeks back...too loud in the main lounge part. my friend and I were yelling at each other standing right next to each other...

alright for a drink or so but no way i could see staying there much longer...

  10. i know last year Space was taking out the batteries of the digital cameras if they found one in a search and you could get it on the way out. but plenty of people took them in...

i suggest taking only a small camera and putting it in your back pocket. the girls i was with had theirs in their purse and that's how security found it.

  11. Weyes - this news has been out since last year...but i guess it took a while to make it over here :)

as you noted, Spundae is not leaving LA - they are moving to Avalon to co-promote Sat nites with Liquified and Avalon in-house promotions.

if you notice that after Giant left Avalon, other than Erick Morillo and Carl Cox, Avalon has has not had any high-profile DJs....and Cox was booked by Giant before they left. they actually had the entire balcony sealed off last week at Avalon so obviously their #s are down a lot with the best talent playing a 1/2 mile east. Bringing in Spundae helps them in returning bigger names to the venue.
