  1. I personally knew a ton of people that went to Giant because it is Giant, often subpromoting, sometimes just partying, and even they couldnt tell you the name of the dj ... and when they had free cd giveaways of the great talent, when I handed it to them, they were more interested in talking about who's going to Larchmont later than looking at the cd itself.

they wouldn't be able to draw 8,000 people to downtown la the other nite if they didn't have some sort of following :shades2

the best thing to say about this is come October, we'll see how it all plays out after Giant has done a couple of parties at Vanguard.

  2. sigh - sometimes i feel like i'm talking to a wall.

yes Giant is moving. first events start in Sept. they will also try to mix it up with some live music act (not sure who yet) and cross-promotions with KCRW. i think Danny Howells is their first booking there.

as 'theseeker' said, the hollywood crowd doesn't know giant from avalon from avaland from WiredLA from Spundae from whomever. they won't be leaving - the venue is the attraction for them. the educated DJ crowd will go to the place that has the DJs they want to see, which could be either venue on any given night.

  3. Can't apeak about AM but I do know for an absolute fact some DJs get WAY over $100k for a night.

Some venues also book top DJs pretty well aware tthat they are going to take a loss for the signle night. They look at it as inventing in the name/brand of thier club and it does have it's practical value.

i've never heard of any DJs getting $100K+ other than NYE in LA a couple of years back when Giant and Spundae and 1015 were competing with each other. I know that Tiesto and Sasha get $40K when they play and sell out Avalon here in LA.

there was a published article earlier this year giving DJ AM's fees - they were more like $15K per show....i don't see the #s making sense at $50K - the crowd in the Hamptons will show up and buy 5 bottles regardless if its AM or the house DJ if its a trendy club/lounge.

    ...thought i pass it on!

what locals do you have booked?

  5. Okay...Its time to preach says THE POPE!!

    First off Vegas Guy...

You must not be a true partier or Rolled all your brain cells off...To say Jonathan Peters is a has been. First off the guy had like 75% of the Main Parties this year at the WMC, or maybe you don't know cause your a VEGASGUY not a WORLDWIDE PARTIER!! Last year at Studio was a complete bonehead move by the Promotions Staff to book him. He is a Deep Electronic/Underground House DJ. He does not fit Studio.

This year ICE did a good job in booking him. In NY he is huge. Spins at PACHA like every week, at least a few times a month. And at WMC 06 he tore it up at the parties I was at. Nikki and Nocturnal.

But what people don't realize is Vegas is getting away from the House and Electronic Scene. There are a few people that are keeping it alive like Zee at Jet. And Late Night Empire, and ICE. But Ice is struggling because of the fact that this day and age it is all about where to be. People want to be at the hottest clubs, and with places like Pure, Tao, Jet, Tryst who are spinning Top 40 it is killing the electronic sound. Not to mention Ice has become a locals spot. Most tourist have no clue about Ice.

Don't get me wrong Sharam spinning how could you pass if you love electronic music. But you mix that with the one of the hottest clubs in Vegas its guaranteed. I mean really go see an awesome DJ at the hottest club or go see a really good DJ at a rapidly declining club. And I hate to say that because everyone that loves electronic music knows that ICE is where it started.

And yes I know I am going to get in a battle to say it started there. But it was the first club to open before afterhours and in its main room spin Electronic/Dance/Trance music. So yes that is where it started. Hell half the top host worked there at one point.

So to sum it all up. JP or Deep Dish? Ice or Jet? Well Sharam is hot right now!! In most places, however I can tell you this you take that venue to NY and you put JP at Pacha or even Sound Factory since thats JP's home and you put Sharam somewhere else in the city guarantee you it will look just like it did this MDW.

And Ice can't compete anymore with the Casino Clubs...Everyone make sure you get as much Ice as you can cause it won't be around long...

as i mentioned in another thread, JP has almost no following on the west coast other than people that knew him back in the east coast. Also, he's known for playing very long sets with a very drugged out clientele. there aren't too many places out here that cater to the Sound Factory type of partying.

i'd heard from some of his fans that he really sucked for 2005 but recovered his sound starting at the WMC this year. though honestly, you couldn't pay me to go see him. i walked through Nocturnal the morning he was playing so i could see Faarsheed on that patio. didn't even stop for a second :)

and the fact that there were more people in our VIP section at Jet at 530 am than were at the entire club of Ice at 530 tells you his appeal. so he's played 2 gigs in Vegas on holiday weekends that both sucked...point made - he's got a great regional following but not a national one. his WMC parties were basically 99% guidos and jersey girls - i doubt he could fill those same venues on a normal weekend in Miami.

  6. we were there on friday nite...1st time there since it was Le Bete. didn't actually look that different to me. The downstairs was so ridiculously packed we hated it. ended up getting a table on the 1st level where they were playing house/dance music so we were pleased. got hooked up for a table at $500 including 1 free bottle (we bought 2 more).

  7. Damn man...you got some ears...lololol...your blowing up all the info..lololol...but nice not too many know about that project...However its talk it will be strictly for the VIPs of Venetian and Tao...That be me...lololol...Anyways ****** your talking with the right crowd to know that info...much props...

actually, this info has been in print for a month or two....it will be interesting to see how well it does. the cool thing is supposedly they are building a stairway from inside Tao to this new pool area.

  8. yes you can get one. but very tought for non-high rollers and/or connected people to get one on a holiday weekend.

they only release them to the public 7 days in advance.

  9. thanks... i hear cabanas are going for 7k+ is that true? its gonna be about 12 people..

#1 - all the cabanas are sold out so your are SOL (unless you are a mega high-roller).

#2 - the price for the cabana is $400...and you get 8 bracelets for that plus free juice, water and fresh fruit

#3 - you must buy a minimum of 5 bottles of alcohol

but since they are all sold out it doesn't matter..

  10. Anyone have updates, confirmation of anything?

Only additional bit I've learned is that 21+ cabana rentals at Flamingo this weekend include a bottle of your choice. (I guess "famlly" cabana rentals include lunch for 6).

Spoke to a friend who deals at Palms. I guess the second phase of their pool renovation is somewhat behind schedule, so they won't be pushing their pool until mid-June at the earliest.

how much were the Flamingo cabanas and were they even available?

i'm staying at the Rio and last week they were already sold out for the entire MDW.

  11. Have a cabana on sunday...Let me know how many people in your party...I will sell you a line pass to come in with me...Its going to cost...but let me know...

my and my friends might be up for this - will be around 4 people. we called for over an hour on Sunday morning but couldn't confirm a cabana until they were sold out.

    PM me the cost.

    thanks!

  12. i've called to get a cabana at Red Rock - they say they are not booking cabanas for non-hotel guests and i swear she said non-guests can't get in either. we have a connection trying to arrange a cabana for us but its not done yet.

i've also called about the Venus pool and got a voicemail. waiting for them to call back.

i think the reason that the Palms isn't have any parties is due to the pool renovation not being completed yet.

hopefully by tomorrow this time i'll have a cabana reserved at Rehab :)

  13. I know, I was being facetious. I'm headed out there Friday morning.

What's the story on Sunday. When does it begin and when is good to get there. I saw some pics from last years Mem. Day party, it looked busy but not packed to the walls.

if you don't have a cabana or a guest list connection - i'd say get there by noon and be prepared to wait up to 2 hours to get in.

maybe you can tip the door guys to get in quicker.
