  1. i'm heading down there with a couple of friends....should be a good time - i'm digging the new album.

don't know why, but all the venues in the US for this tour are a bit offbeat...

i wonder who is doing the promotions on this - haven't seen a single flyer! but looking forward to it...i highly doubt there will be a bunch of kiddies down there...though since the venue is next to USC who knows.

  2. Mark Farina is also playing the Giant NYE party. being outdoors again, i seriously doubt lines will be a big issue, but you never know. and 4am will be the ending time, though they will have an after party the following afternoon.

as to Tiesto/Godskitchen, last i heard (in July) it will be at that dome thing in Long Beach....have yet to hear anything to the contrary...

  3. the new video will never see the light of day - at least for sale - it was stolen from Paris' house in that break-in a month or so ago. anyone who tries to market it will get their balls sued off and arrested for theft! it wouldn't suprise me if it eventually shows up on the file-sharing sites but i don't think its there yet...

  4. i guess they do the party every year though i've never heard of it either....

my friends are Marc and Steve (Sugar Ant Invasion) - they are playing the friday nite VIP party at the HOB from around 3-5 am or so....

obviously gonna go to that...probably swing by the Sat nite pool party for a while before going out to other places....

  5. choptrop - i used to think the same way as u....but if you look at the biggest DJs in the world - PVD, Josh Wink and John Acquiviva, among others, use Final Scratch now...Deep Dish primarily use only CDs...Erick Morillo uses only CDs.....and you know what? they sound just as good if not better than when they used only records. it takes the exact same amount of skill to mix 2 records or 2 CDs or 2 mp3s via final scratch.

one thing Sasha was doing last nite was looping snippets of the songs he was playing with the CDJ and basically creating a remix on the fly. Morillo does it all the time as well. u can't do that with a record or the sampler built into some mixers....

u gotta learn the craft on the turntables but the new technology allows you to expand what u can accomplish.

  6. i'm assuming that whatever Sasha was planning on doing with the laptop that it was a final scratch type of thing...i can't imagine trying to cue a song and mix with just a mouse....

have u seen the new technics CD player? it spins just like a record does - except that u are playing a CD its almost the same...

  7. commenting on the original post - while its sad most of the local record stores are closing - heck i remember going to Street Sounds, Beat Non Stop and that one on Santa Monica Blvd. almost every weekend in the 90s....its just the nature of technology with MP3s and CDs which has caused this to happen. based on what i saw this past weekend, dance music is still going strong and we don't have to worry.

we've got Puff Daddy coming out with his house music album, Morillo trying to take it to a new level of popularity with the average music fan, etc.

i heard, though never seen this actually proven, that turntables and CJDs now outsell guitars....things are looking good IMO - but no doubt a bit of the community feeling is disappearing with the closure of the stores....

  8. well i wasn't there so i can't comment specifically on NY....having said that he killed it on Sat at Giant/Avalon and on Sunday at Ivar tag-teaming with Danny Howells....and he only played CDs...and sunday he just used Danny's Cds to boot - he didn't bother to bring his own stuff as it was a last second invite by Danny for him to swing by and play.

  9. argh - i wrote a nice review and it got lost. :gang:

anyway, Sasha rocked it on Sat nite...place was off the hook. Filled to capacity, sound system tuned correctly, great nite!

i'd have to say last nite was even better though. when he showed up at Ivar and tag-teamed with Danny Howells it was amazing. the place went nuts when he showed up in the DJ booth. everyone was yelling, cheering and dancing like there was no tomorrow! the patio was awesome as well with the local Basic and AOS DJs bringing the funk.

amazing weeked with 2 top sets by the Son of God....Giant knows how to bring it! :bounce:

  10. Slim - the DJ still has to mix the songs together, regardless if the source is a CD or a vinyl record. not sure what you mean about Sasha not doing a lot of mixing.

He was planning on taking a laptop but apparently he didn't get it set up to his liking so he's just spinning with CDs. and you have to realize that DJs love CDs as they take up MUCH less space so they can travel with many more tracks. and you can burn a new track or edit it on your computer and play it that nite - you can't do that with vinyl (unless u are one of the very few with dubplate access).

  11. Puff Daddy did a live PA singing/rapping/yelling over the songs on his new house music album. The songs were okay IMO...and he played for around 45 minutes.....but to do that in the middle of Erick's set annoyed me!

and Morillo didn't show up at Space for the afterhours...after he announced he was playing! though Sander and Tom Novy did a sweet tag-team.

if anyone has pics from Subliminal/crobar, please post - i forgot my camera that night.

  12. I heard that they might be trying to get Paul Van Dyke and Jaime Presley to host it. I didn't get a chance to hit it up last year though...are these parties as good as they are hyped up to be?

Jaime did host a couple of years back...though really the hosts usually just run out on stage for 5 minues and yell and leave so no biggie there...

in the past, Rubber has usually shied away from getting the A list talent as they still get 6,000+ people regardless of who spins...though they did get Tiesto last Halloween...

in terms of are they as good as the reputation? well the Pimp N Ho party on Labor Day weekend is better IMO than Summer of Love as everyone dresses up for Pimp N Ho...not so for Summer of Love...but there are tons of hotties everywhere and its lots of fun so i'd say go!

  13. Blue - i get in at 11am on friday and leave wed afternoon...but actually that did happen to me last time - DJ Alicia was on my flight...and a bunch of my friends were on that same American flight...this time we seem to be a bit more spread out...but look for the record boxes! :)

  14. Mercedes - yes, there will be a Pimp N Ho party this Memorial Day weekend...sort of. The party that weekend is called Summer of Love...i went last year and it was on that sunday nite at Rain. They have already announced another party that weekend though no details yet.

also of note: Prince is playing that weekend (2 shows) at the Mandalay Bay...

  15. the rest of the year its like that but as the others said, for the WMC they are very loose at the door. many parties are offering presale tix which guarantee entry unless they are at capacity...i know Nerve has a multi-night discount pass...

getting there early usually solves all problems.

  16. tony, if you read my post again, i said believed that people that had tables were allowed into the room ahead of those that didn't. but again, as long as the room wasn't at occupancy, no VIP bracelets were needed. same deal in 2001.

it sounds like you got there after midnite when Fatboy was spinning and the room was totally full. the room stayed full through Emerson's set. i said 2 hours, you say 4 - probably somewhere in between.

I remember friends of mine did get stuck in the main room trying to get back in, but I don't think it took them more than 30 minutes. and with Morillo rippin it up in the main room, its hard to complain.

and i doubt the bouncers care/knew who Glaude is anyway. now if you had DJ Rap or pretty boy BT with you i bet you'd walk right in!

just get there by midnite and i'd be shocked if you have a problem. there is a restroom in the VIP/2nd room, so you don't have to worry about re-entry. Call/email Crobar and ask them if you don't believe me.

  17. tonyf and geoff, i don't know how to put this any other way, but you're both wrong.

there is no need to get a table or a VIP stamp for the 2nd room for the Subliminal party.

it did hit occupancy for about 2 hours last year and **maybe** they would only let you in the 2nd room without waiting if you had a table, but there were about 20 of us there and except when it was full and at occupancy, we came and went as we pleased. and since Fatboy and Darren Emerson aren't there this year, i don't expect the occupancy to be that big of a problem. i'd say just get inside there by midnite...
