  1. If you're looking for stuff from 2-3 years ago, I got a bunch of Razor-n-Guido type shit from when I used to spin in Boston. I'd be more than willing to cleanse my collection of that shit if you're interested in buying any of it. Now I just shake my head whenever I see those records sitting in my crates. Email me at nroth@speakeasy.org if you want me to send you a list.
  2. I never understood this Opus III thing. I bought the same song in Spain back in '92, only it was by Patty Wilson, same words and melody and everything. Is Opus III a project she later formed, or is Opus III a group that covered or remixed this track?
  3. They used to play hardcore in the main room at Downtime on Saturdays a few months ago, but now they just play the same shit you hear everywhere else like Prodigy and Underworld. From what I've seen, there really isn't a big enough scene to have a weekly hardcore night here. They have one-off events every now and then like when Lenny Dee played at Limelight a few weeks ago, but other than that, I've only heard it at underground parties and such. Although, it does seem like the scene is slowly starting to grow recently. For material, you might want to check out HardComm at http://www.thoughtbludgeon.com/hardcore/index2.asp which is a collective of hardcore producers and DJs, a few of which are located in NY such as myself, Skinner, Descendant, and Sinibyte. I've also got a collection of gabber tracks on my page at http://vonstrecker.homestead.com which I'm going to make available soon for people to purchase. Also, if you're looking to spin out, we're doing a hardcore party in Brooklyn sometime in Sept if you're interested. If you can get me a demo I can forward it to the organizers. My email is nroth@speakeasy.org
  4. They had a party last night at Amazura. I don't know if this is the same thing or not, but this is what the ad in the Voice had listed: ATTENTION CANDY RAVERS: Head immediately to Queens for the candiest bash I've seen on a flyer in a while. Infiltrate is the glow stick-wielding clubber's dream, with headliners like Florida breaks specialist DJ Icey, and Super DJ Dmitry (who, though he has better records now, can share fashion tips with his teen followers, rivaling only perhaps Superstar DJ Keoki in this area) plus Russian trance-techno badass Spacegirl. England's Jon the Dentist puts in a three-deck performance, and junglists can get all their aggressions out via Florida's AK1200, and Canada's Mystical Influence and Sniper. Rave on! Saturday @ 7, Amazura, 91-12 144 Pl, Jamaica, Queens, 591-1683.
  5. go to http://panicware.com they have a free pop-up stopper that you can download and install
  6. I used to listen to groovetech.com sometimes at work
  7. There's one around 30th and 3rd somewhere. I forget the exact address, but a company I used to work for had their xmas party there last year. I sang Rob Zombie's "Dragula" and freaked the shit outta my boss. Maybe that's why I got laid off a few months later.
  8. It took about 6 weeks or so last time I ordered from them. I ordered 4 records, got a confirmation email, then a week later they said they were out of the one record. Then another week later they said they were out of another record. So around 6 weeks after I ordered, I finally got 2 of the 4 I had originally ordered. It might be better sometimes just to go to the labels' websites and order. I also did some shopping at 12spot.com, but that was mainly for Baltimore ghetto house. I'm not sure what kind of selection they had for other styles and you can't preview the tracks online, but they were quick with the shipment.
  9. you're not going to save any disk space doing that since the mp3 is already a compressed file
  10. I'm re-reading "Lords of Chaos" again. It's a historical look into the Norwegian black metal scene and the crime wave that accompanied it. I'm also reading "Problem Solving & Program Design in C" but I suppose that doesn't really count.
  11. I kinda doubt it. That was over a year ago. Actually, we never made it back to Twilo again since the summer of 2000. Maybe my g/f thought I'd molest more of her friends if we went back. I imagine it must have been a funny sight, though. I'm a big guy with pale skin and long black hair, my g/f is black with bright red hair, and the other girl was a blonde. We were a...umm...banner of unity for the night. Yeah, that's it.
  12. $500 a week?!? Tough on a wallet?!? That's more like rent money! I can't afford shit since I moved to NYC, so I've just been getting some cheap Baltimore ghetto house records and producing my own tracks and remixes for new material.
  13. It's on the left side of Mass Ave as you're heading towards Cambridge, and it's near the corner of Beacon St.
  14. I used to go to their store up in Boston when I lived there, and probably dumped about $50-75 a week on new wax. But now when I order from them online, it takes a long ass time to get my records and sometimes they go out of stock after I've already placed my order.
  15. I grew up in a small town of only 2,000 people in eastern Washington state before I moved here. Here's a list of pros and cons of moving to NYC. pros: -Nights out last beyond 2am -I can say I've held a DJ residency in NYC -I've met some (how should I say) unique people here -I'm not the town weirdo anymore cons: -I miss the friendliness and laid back attitude of back home -Can't order food sometimes because no one speaks english at the restaurant -Egos, attitudes and ASSHOLES -I hate the weather here -You could actually breathe the air back home I guess there's more cons then pros, but I'm living with my g/f here and she seems to like it. When I go out, I stick to the smaller bars and clubs now where I know I'll have a good time.
  16. One time the fire alarm went off at Twilo and this dude was trying to tell it to be quiet. I don't know how gone he was, but his face was about 6 inches from the little red fire alarm box and he was holding his finger to his lips like he was telling it 'shhhh'. Then he'd stand up for a few seconds, then crouch down again over and over trying to get the box to be quiet. Then he turned around and a bouncer grabbed him and threw him out the door. Me and my friends felt really bad for the guy since it looked like he was tripping pretty hard and didn't look like he even knew where he was. Then another time, we were rolling at Twilo and I was sitting in between my girlfriend and her friend. I was rolling pretty hard and feeling really horny, so I just reached around them both and started fingering them. It was a Saturday and I was getting some disturbed looks from the gay dudes, but my g/f and her friend were really enjoying it, so I just continued about my business The next day my g/f asked if I was fingering her friend also. That's when you blame it on the drugs.
  17. "Heretic" was the name of a gabber single I released, and there's nothing better than a distorted "909" kick drum bustin out some 4-to-the-floor hardcore
  18. I totally agree with MikeMC because I've found it to be a frustrating fact that everyone thinks they can spin now. I've been DJing for 8 years and started out only playing afterparties and house parties. And after a few years, people coming to those parties started noticing my skills and started booking me at clubs. Then I move to NYC and there are so many wannabes that you can't land a gig to save your life. People that have been DJing for less than a year are landing gigs because they're a friend of the bartender's cousin's second wife. Half of the time they're just (trying to) mix the same tracks they saw on some British DJ's setlist that was posted online. And the ones that can actually mix their beats together have no clue as how to build a set and create a journey out of their music that will actually take the crowd somewhere. And as much as it all pisses me off, I realize that it happens in every scene. Even when death metal first started, bands were doing well and selling records. So then a few years later, everyone thinks they can play guitar and wants to be in a death metal band, and it just lowers the overall quality of the scene for the fans. So now we just have to wait it out for a few years until all of the bandwagon DJs give up and realize that they're not going to make a shitload of money doing this and make room for the people that actually have some talent.
  19. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Will Smith will most likely not be DJing this party, though, that's what I thought of first also when I saw his name. I don't know who booked him or what he sounds like, but Dräcos, Krieg, RExx, Exeris and Nils Odlund will definitely be handling the majority of the DJing duties. (This is a good thing for those that are not familiar with the hard industrial-dance scene)

  22. Dräcos spins UK-style hard house and hard nrg/trance (stuff like Tinrib, Nick Sentience, OD404, etc) down at La Nouvelle Justine on Fridays. He only plays it from 11pm-12:30am or so, then starts to play more hard industrial and EBM for the rivethead crowd that comes in later in the night. So you might want to check it out as a warm-up for your nights out since it's a small club and relatively cheap. But this Friday they're having a one-time only event with 10 other DJs, so if you want to check it out it'd be better to do it on another Friday.
  23. Like I said, it's an alternative. I'm just mentioning it for those that are possibly interested and bored with the current state of nightlife in NYC.
  24. Those seeking something a little different this Friday should definitely check out this 'one time only' party. The music will encompass a unique blend of hard house and nrg/trance with industrial and EBM, and there will be plenty of eye-candy, so bring your cameras. That being said, here's the info: This Friday (7/27) for Vice & Virtue there will be a special birthday celebration for Lady Syren (Gommorah/Den of Iniquity/Playground). Currently the DJ roster for this party includes: Dräcos (resident DJ) DJ Krieg DJ/VJ Exeris RExx Arkana DJ Maximus DJ Insomnia DJ Fresh Prince DJ Holik and more to be announced later this week GO-GO's Galore: King Koopa, Venus, Justine, Alice, Violet Sweet and more to be announced Performing: Goddess Dianna, Mistress Talia, Cyber Russ and more to be announced Free shots of vodka/tequila/spankings compliments of Master Steelow at 1am All of this will be happening at La Nouvelle Justine 101 E 2nd St (corner of 1st Ave) $5 after 11pm - free before (cheap!)
