I'll be looking in Nassau County as a possible place to live sometime this year. My question is how accessible is midtown manhattan from nassau county by LIRR or car. I'd probably be looking at western nassau county just to be as close to the city as possible. So, are we talking about an hour and a half commute or what? And is real estate very expensive there? Can you get a decent, relatively spacious home between $200k-$300k? For the same amount, it seems like you're lucky if you get 500 square feet in Manhattan. Thanks in advance.

Also, optical zoom comes at a premium. The higher the optical zoom, the higher you can expect to pay. The s110 has 2x optical zoom and up to 5x digital zoom. Again, it all depends on what you're looking for If you're just a casual photographer (just taking pictures of friends and family etc.), a 2.1 megapixel camera with 2-8x zoom should be enough. I took the attached picture with the camera. It really doesn't reflect the quality of the picture because I shrunk it from 1600x1200 to about 600x480, so many pixels were lost in between, but it just gives you an idea of how pictures come out on this camera.

All depends on how much you're willing to spend. If money is no object go for the Nikon Coolpix 990 or the Canon G1 Powershot. I have the Canon Powershot S110, it's a midrange 2.1 megapixel model, I paid about $420 not including rebate. Great camera and very small and sturdy--built like a tank and it can fit into a shirt pocket. It uses compactflash cards to store pictures. With a 128mb card (best place to buy these cards cheap is Ebay) you can take around 250 pictures at 1600x1200 resolution.
