STRIPPER HURLED OUT OF WINDOW New York 1 By LARRY CELONA, ZACH HABERMAN and HASANI GITTENS -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- May 26, 2003 -- A hip city DJ pushed his stripper girlfriend out the window of their fourth-floor Gramercy Park pad early yesterday after a vicious lover's quarrel that grew so loud, it caused firefighters to rush over from a nearby firehouse, police sources said. Edgar Ortega, who spins techno under the name DJ Tega at the trendy Suede club on West 23rd Street, was arrested after admitting that he and Sheila Cordell began violently arguing at around 5:15 a.m. after she announced she was ditching him for someone else, the sources said. Ortega told cops that the couple began hitting each other - and that's when he accidentally shoved her out the window of their apartment at 9 East 17th St. Cordell, a shapely, tanned dancer at the VIP Club on West 20th Street, landed atop an air-conditioning decompressor in a back courtyard. The Ohio native was in critical condition at St. Vincents Hospital last night with a broken neck, and was breathing on a respirator, family and a hospital official said. Minutes before Cordell's plunge, firemen on duty around the corner heard the couple's screamfest and rushed to the scene. But by then, Cordell had already gone through the window. Ortega at first told cops that he and Cordell began fighting after she returned home late and that she became depressed, saying she desperately wanted out of stripping. She then jumped out the window herself, he said. Hours later, the DJ, who is in his 30s and also spins at Cordell's strip club, confessed to accidentally pushing her, the sources said. Cordell's mom arrived from Akron with the victim's older sister last night to keep a tearful vigil at the hospital, where other relatives and friends had also gathered. "[sheila's] just a great person . . . tough . . . real strong," said a stunned cousin, Danielle Haney. She said Cordell also had been studying part time at New York University. Meanwhile, a security guard at Suede, John Pavich, called Ortega "a fantastic DJ and a very nice guy." "Both of them are very happy, outgoing people," Pavich said. "I'm in shock. "I've seen her come in the club with him a few times on off nights. It seemed like everything was cool. He's a very good kid . . . an even-tempered guy."

Just speculation but is it possible that since this could have become a PR nightmare for the city's administration they fixed it so the whole thing goes away?
