  1. sounds like a possible meetup, gang...
  2. First of all, ditto everything that lalate said, well spoken and covered the basics, especially the money part, cause in a club undoubtedly you'll get a drink spilled on you or (hopefully) a bit of makeup/ lipstick on your clothes, plus the fog machines and smoking areas don't help. Wear comfortable but stylish shoes. A ton of guys blow money on some designer threads, then throw on some Payless-shit footwear. Don't be them. You can go to the Shoe Warehouse, etc, for good labels reasonably priced. Flip through a men's magazine, hit a vintage/ resale shop, find your own style and, importantly, wear something you feel confident in. Then go dance your ass off, cause, really, it's not about the clothes...
  3. I don't know who was djing, (I know cardinal sin) but I was just boogeying my uncoordinated butt around the floor and didn't get around to asking. Chap in a ski cap, t-shirt and jeans, that oughta narrow it down for ya ; ) Don't know about the 21st, I guess depends if I'm in town or not, have you heard the EC Boogeymen before? What style do they spin? Gona try to check out Insomnia tomorrow, never been and with Swedish, I hope to make the effort, otherwise I usually hit Deep at 1650 any sun night I can...
  4. Uggh... I live in Hollywood, but I just got back from six weeks in New York, so I'm still adapting... the staying up late is not a problem- went to Honey last night so not in bed till three- but my sleeping till noon translates to nine am here, so here I am wide awake and typing away at 9:20 Honey btw was really pumping last night, good vibe and enough room to actually dance, though (kinda funny) I went outside to catch a breather, it was raining pretty hard, so I ran back in and when almost knocked over Paul Oakenfold, who was right inside the door dancing around in his black adidas trackies... I tell ya he's got that head bobbing thing perfected where do you work with a 1-9 shift?
  5. 6. Weyes, just remembered that times are GMT. Duh... never mind.
  7. ...especially when the cliches spring from stereotypes. Words strain, Crack and sometimes break, under the burden, Under the tension, slip, slide, perish, Decay with imprecision, will not stay in place, Will not stay still. -T.S. Eliot, poet (1888-1965) btw Weyes, looking at the times of your postings, perhaps you're not getting the full 8 hours of sleep recommended by the AMA...guess I'm not the only one
  8. Stasis is a scientific term that basically means "standstill." It is a state of relative inaction. Delving deeper, however, it comes from the Latin word for conflict, and that is where it gets interesting to me. Something that on the surface seems calm, but basically is the result of two forces clashing against one another; Both strong. Both unyielding. T That, to me, is peace, when there is an active struggle in life, to seek out, taste what is real, pit ideas against each other, to wrestle and sometimes win, and to sometimes lose. To experience loss and then turn and seek victory is stasis...
  9. sounds amazing... anyone know set times & how late (or early) it's going till??
  10. So I guess that rules out Deep Dish at the Hollywood Ave NYE this year... sucks, I thought they were amazing... filter 14 this thursday... is anyone not going to see Carl Cox??
  11. "To love and be loved is to feel the sun from both sides." -David Viscott

  13. Hiya, out in NY for a few weeks on bidniz but I have a coupla things... First of all, the area around Las Palmas is fine, I've always felt perfectly safe (I've lived in this area for 4 years.) This is LA, not in Cornfield, Indiana so just use caution and common sense oh and the incident was not a burglar/ slash throat, but actually someone was mugged w/ o injury. Weyes, you were saying sun night is best and I have to recommend Marques W's Deep @ 1650, one of my favorite night period. And there's the chill out lounge where you can speak in normal tones... off to check out jonathan peters at sound factory, he's supposed to be up there with danny t; we'll see about that : )T
  14. just got into town, want to try an catch jp .. what his set time?
  15. Sugar was sorta popular a couple of years back; I went a few times on Thursdays, when they had Bossa Nova (or was it Tuesdays??) Anyway, it's pretty enough, kinda pink with lucite stools, like a sleeker Beauty Bar. Different music every night, mostly housey but jungle and dnb too, depending. Haven't been there recently though.
  16. In N Out burgers. There is no other option. First of all it's a SoCal original. Second, NOTHING IS FROZEN. They don't have freezers or microwaves; It's fresh ground beef, they freakin' peel the potatoes every morning for the fries, they're pretty obsessive about the whole thing. And no, I never worked for them, though a buddy of mine did through college and he swears it's the cleanest joint, no horror stories about vermin and nasty hygiene... A double-double animal style and a milkshake. That, my friends, is good times.

    Numf??

thinking about going to Red tonight... I may be disclosing my ignorance, but, anyone heard of this Fred Numf fella??
  18. so honey isn't at arena anymore? Shame, I thought it was a great setup for precisely the reason that there WAS room to dance, not the packed out venues where you can either a) bob up and down and pretend you're dancing fling your arms out wildly so people think you're drunk/ possessed and give you some room to move I also dug the upstairs chill out area with the free fruit/ vegetable buffets...
  19. May I suggest that people refrain from "giving a shout out" as well...
  20. It made me think of how Western society is so fearful of silence when it is truly necessary to an inner life... "We in the "developed" world seem to have many auditory strategies that insulate us from the presence of silence, simplicity, and solitude. When I return to Western culture after time in desert, mountain or forest, I discover how we have filled our world with a multiplicity of noises, a symphony of forgetfulness that keeps our won thoughts and realizations, feelings and intuitions out of audible range." --Joan Halifax The Fruitful Darkness)
  21. I live close to the Egyptian Theater on Hollywood Blvd, and periodically they hold these independent screenings, films that have won awards in festivals, etc., and don't even have distribution deals, and 99% of the time I am amazed. When you look at the schlock in the theaters and then attend these screenings, stories that touch you and change your perspective, that affect you viscerally and not because of the expensive effects or set design. You leave the screening exhilarated at the experience but sad that few will get a chance to share that...
  22. I was a big Metallica fan and listened to nothing but metal, but grew up listening to my parents play Hawaiian music, Opera, Classical and even Bluegrass. Then, I worked summers painting houses, and my boss listened to only jazz: Miles Davis, Stan Getz, Dave Brubeck, Jobim, etc, so I grew to like it. Then, I dated this girl who was into country: The Mavericks, Dwight Yoakum, Lyle Lovett. Moved to Spain, listened to Flamenco, worldbeat. Swept away by a girl who would slowly undress me to old-school Motown: Otis Redding, Nina Simone, Etta James. I LOVE music. I can appreciate any music that comes from the soul, that is sprung forth by passion. I HATE music that is product, put out there to fulfill a contract or because that is what the polls and demographics say we want. In the end, it's the soundtrack to life, as cliche as that sounds, and a song will capture you and take you back to that first kiss, that terrible heartbreak, that dusty roadtrip, and yes, that first euphoric rush of being somehow connected to everyone on the dancefloor...
  23. Actually, the vast majority of opium comes from Asia, most notably Burma. And very little of it comes to North or South America.
  24. Just gotta make this plain... Watched the drugs=supporting terrorism commercial for the nth time and it just pisses me off to no end. If you haven't seen it, it's this montage of various children and teens saying things like "I killed my mother/ father etc" and it all ends with a voiceover saying if you buy illegal drugs you are supporting international terrorism. First let me say that I'm not a big drug user and that we all know irresponsible use of drugs will eventually result in some serious physiological consequences, like listening to Celine Dion. That being said, for the anti-drug people to take devastating tragedies like 9/11 or suicide bombings and then have the sheer audacity to say that some kid buying a joint or dropping a tab is responsible is not only seriously unethical but absolutely false. Where are terrorists harbored, educated, trained?? The Middle East!! What is the main (only) source of wealth in Middle Eastern countries? That's right, class; OIL!! And the United States is the number one consumer, three times greater than the average use in European countries. We buy it, we need it. It's what Desert Storm was about. Last time I checked, Northern California and Oregon pot growers weren't giving any flight lessons, and Mexico and Columbia want the US to grow RICHER as they can then sell more drugs. Stop this bulls**t about drugs and terrorism and be honest about it. Run an ad or print up a T-shirt with a Mobil Logo on it or a big oil tanker. Then put the motto "I Support International Terrorism" How about some honesty for awhile...
