  1. Did anyone go? Why no reviews for what must have been an amazing event? I couldn't make it but am eager to hear how it went.
  2. Is there such a thing? If so, where da party at?
  3. I heard he's spinning somewhere in the City this weekend. Anybody know where & when?
  4. To lose myself in all the energy and euphoria of the music, the darkness and lights, the crowd -- that must be the one of the most dazzlingly, pleasurably sensate experiences one could ever have. (For me, substance-free.) Sounds silly but it's probably up there with sex and mountaineering. Of course, there is something palpably autoerotic about clubbing -- all the more amazing because at the same time there's a sense of collectivity. Somehow that feeling of collective experience to me transcends -- or at least is very different from -- the modes of interaction available between friends, and because it's rarer I tend to prefer it. I've never had friends who are into the scene, so when I started out I always went alone. The few times I've gone with other people, though -- i.e., friendly acquaintances whom I genuinely liked -- I still ended up wishing I'd gone alone. Interesting that a couple of others in this thread have spent their birthdays clubbing by themselves. I did that, too, on my last birthday, and it was one of the best I'd ever had. I'm thinking of going to Ibiza alone next summer. Someone earlier on this thread said that it's easier for girls to go clubbing alone because they'd get approached anyway. For me, though, that easy prospect of approach is neither interesting nor assuring. Actually I have this bad habit of moving away from anyone who starts dancing with me, so that by the end of a night I'll often have danced all over the place because I'm always moving away from people. I don't mean to be unfriendly, but often that level of interaction just distracts me from my high. Maybe it's something I should work on, because I do also have the feeling that -- and as some on this thread have said -- there's something amazing about sharing the experience with good friends. Just my overly verbose 2 cents.
  5. Maybe it's embarrassingly easy, but I have no clue. Please help? It's the first track here -- from a set he did in Berlin last month: http://www.klubradio.de/rams/wmf111101_paulvandyk.ram .
  6. Great suggestion! I was in Berlin for two weeks later this summer (too late to catch the LP) and had a few of the best clubbing experiences of my [amateur clubbing] life in that city. Whether trip-hop or hard techno, music just seems to sound better over there; why is that? Am thinking of moving to Berlin actually, work-permits permitting....
  7. Thanks jonnyb! Would love to hit up Barcelona these next few weeks but am short on time and cash so it's hibernation in cold New England instead . Maybe I'll start saving up for summer in Ibiza! -- can't wait to be "excessive".... Any recommendations for travel agencies specializing in Ibiza and the surrounding isles?
  8. Hey, thanks. Just saw that there's now an official WMC Q&A thread -- very helpful. Once upon a recent time I lived in 10003, and sometime soon I may recover that esteemed status. As for the present tense... I'm stuck in the NY "metro region" finishing up some schooling... :book: alas, in one of those other zip codes. Are you? If so I'm envious!
  9. I'm originally from Boston, but after a few years in the NYC area have lost touch with the scene here. Know that Avalon has a great sound system and brings in great DJs now and then, but is that place the only option? When I was younger, with a different set of tastes, I used to like the Middle East and T.T. the Bear's in Cambridge -- but of course those are venues of another genre. Will be back in Boston for the New Year and some weeks into January. Any recommendations for some clubs/lounges to check out? E.g., how's ManRay (on a non-S/M/Goth night), the Roxy, or the Rise parties?
  10. Never been. Want to go. Worth the money? Any way to bypass the registration fee? Advice for finding cheap lodgings? I'm not in the music industry, just an amateur enthusiast. Share your experiences, if any, please....
  11. Never been to Ibiza... or to any destination for that matter with the sole & specific purpose of clubbing. Seems like it'd be awesome, though, and I'm thinking of doing it at least once, maybe in the new year. What's the optimal time during the year for cheapest fares and best DJs?
  12. They're your favorite parties? -- that's quite a recommendation! I'll have to check it out, and will look out for your post. Thanks crystalmethod!
  13. Terms papers permitting, I will be there. Am totally psyched!
  14. It *is* quite beautiful. Like some enigmatic mantra.
  15. There are so many brands of sprays/creams for maintaining leather. Is there a particularly reliable/effective product anyone can recommend -- esp. for pants/jackets rather than shoes?
  16. You are quoting DT's GU London album, no? Why?
  17. ...is this Thursday (12/13) at Centro-Fly. Unconscionably, I've yet to make it to any of the Subliminal Sessions parties. How are they?
  18. Agreed. Many merchandisers have seized on the sample-sale concept without offering sample-sale prices. In lieu of -- or at least in addition to -- sample sales when you're looking for discounted designer stuff, I'd also recommend Bluefly.com.
  19. Bluefly is kick-ass. As for brands, try Bebe, ABS, Rampage (there's a store around Wooster St.), Sweet Pea, and of course Diesel.
  20. For men, I love the new Michael Kors; it's subtle, sophisticated, yet primal. For me, Issey Miyake.
  21. Physique Clean+Control keeps my hair sleek, vigorous & shining. Shampoo and conditioner in one; simple but reliable.
  22. Unfortunately it's come & gone -- all of last week (until 12/1) at the SSS warehouse on W. 36th. However, you can sign up for updates at www.clothingline.com. And there's a sneakers/shoe sale in that space next week that includes Diesel, so keep an eye out.
  23. All good things must come to an end, I suppose; one just hopes they're making way for still better things. Thanks for finding out, Quoth. I've never found LL worth checking out for any other event... but maybe the Stuck on Earth night on 12/20 will be worthwhile. Yes, that's also my method, but I haven't seen any for Tresor/LL lately; hence the question. Anyway, thanks guys.
  24. Hi thehacker -- alas, maybe I've been myopic. Care to share the secret? Quoth -- unfortunately I didn't make it to the earlier installments -- was geographically elsewhere at the time -- but I was in Berlin this summer and visited Tresor there, which remains possibly my hardest/headiest clubbing experience ever. Then heard that its label had been collaborating with Limelight to bring that sound here, so I've been wanting to go ever since. If you do get a chance to ask your cousin, I'd really appreciate it if you post any info here. Isn't Function spinning in the pre-Christmas Roseland lineup? I'll have to check him out sometime.
