  1. Jesus and Mary Chain - yumm. Brings back all of my adolescent angst - not that it's ever far away... How about Nitzer Ebb? Anyone? or, Souxie and the Banchees, "Kiss them for me?"
  2. So glad we finally met. Have a wonderful, wonderful birthday. The world (and this board) is a better place with you in it.
  3. Howells is God. He spun with sooooo much energy and enthusiasm - like you described, hard and relentless. Last month at Vinyl he sort of worked his way up throughout the night. This time, he came at us full-throttle from the start. Fucking amazing. What impresses me most about him is his ability to switch grooves so well - from hard hard house to trace to absolute funk. The man's crazy and I love it. He nearly killed me at about 9 a.m. when he dropped "Safe from Harm" - the Vinyl anthem. Amazing mix. Amazing set. It's official: I'm a junkie. :bounce:
  4. I've lost my inhibitions. Along with any chance I had of getting into heaven.
  5. Hmmmm......:book: I'm not sure his thinking is that crazy, in some ways at least. Sounds awfully similar to what many European nations think about the U.S. right now. But whatever. Different opinions make for a healthy democracy. And, the man can spin.
  6. Absolutely. But only if you agree to drink from my water bottle next time. Another flashback from last night: Chub Rocksta "Treat me right" (go! go!) "Treat me right" (go! go!)
  7. Mugz, you've summed up the night perfectly (as usual). Bambaata was outrageous, as was the entire lineup. It was so beautiful (and democratic/American) to see the South Bronx old school flavor fuse with whiter, electronica beats. The crowd embodied the diversity of the music - black, white, asian, hispanic and everything in between stomping together, cheering, smiling, clapping... Highlights for me were "The lion sleep tonight" vs. "Planet Rock" and that crazy mix of Stevie Wonder's "Sir Duke" (a classic tune that also speaks of the unifying force and universality of music). I think Bambaata covered forty years of music history in his set. Brilliant. A truly classic night that both brought me back to the old days, and reinvented the present. Can a girl ask for more? Mugz: Soooo glad we finally met. We MUST do this more often. Deb and Regan: A pleasure. You two are dangerous: two devastating blondes, all kicking it to the unsuspecting males. Deb - I don't think you stopped smiling and bouncing all night. Love it! thehacker: As always, it was wonderful to see you. Let's lobby for Eric B. next time. Maybe we'll even get Rakim in there for a reunion ("I came in the door, I said it before..."). Or, Terminator X maybe? Hmmm..... phuturephunk: Sorry we didn't get to chat more. Next time, next time... ::sigh:: Music, music, music. I'm insatiable, in the best possible way. :D
  8. Afrika Bambaata! Fucking awesome!! I saw him many years ago at an old school hip hop show at MSG - he was amazing. He's such a grandpa - the crowd was like his kids as he was yelling "...nature's children, dance on this mother earth, which is our rock. It's time to work for soul..." PLUR anyone? I once read that when hip hop was first forming in the South Bronx (late 70s), deejays (Afrika Bambatta included) would haul their equipment out into the street, hook it up a street lights and start mixing - impromptu house parties, or ceremonies of dance and music in communities that were in desperate need of them. Glad to hear he's still around.
  9. Bald is sexy. Very sexy. Unless you have a significantly misshaped head, of course. Or a skin rash. Or a swastika tattoo. Then it's freaky.
  10. I once knew a guy who had oversized glow-in-the-dark rosary beads hanging over his bed. Jesus on the cross, all yellow and phosphorescent. Creepy I tell ya. Between that and the Mary-on-the-half-shell on his front lawn (complete with red spotlight), it was like the Catholic funhouse over at his place.
  11. I don't like it when Jesus sneaks up on me like that. Creepy little bastard.
  12. Polywog is amazing. She spun at a party a friend of mine threw a few years ago in San Francisco. LOVE HER! Bad-ass **and** beautiful. Now there's a combination. We need more like her.
  13. Beautifully written letter, btw.
  14. Good for you Kris! Congrats on your liberation. Yay!
  15. Uhm, perhaps the ladies aren't responding to this thread because it's ludicrous, bro. We're the originators? Sweeping generalizations much? There are those who play games, and those who do not. It's that simple. It's not about gender. It's about integrity. Don't point the finger at women (though I realize that might be easier); point the finger at people who lack integrity.
  16. Last night was my first time hearing Howells and while I agree that he started off a bit flat (great beats, but the crescendos would fall off quickly), he totally blew me away after about 7:30. The remix of "Erotic City" was unfuckingbelievable, as was his take on "Song of the Siren" and "Silence," both of which he reinvented for me. The set completely changed after 7:30ish, as Mugz so concisely described: funk to breaks to heaven and beyond. Sonic orgasms... Hey - anyone else note my man dressed like Merlin? Closed the place out at 9 a.m. and reluctantly so. I could have stayed for hours. The night ended with Loch and I stomping in a circle with an awesome group of strangers, screaming out "One more!" to an exhausted Howells. And let me reiterate how much I absolutely ADORE Vinyl. The vibe in that place is allllllll love and respect. Yes, security can be tight but IMO they also treat their patrons with tremendous dignity, considering the debauchery that goes on there. For those who complain about being booted, I say that Vinyl is simply trying to avoid the same fate as Twilo, Tunnell, etc. Better they are too strict than too lax and yet another NYC venue is closed down. Vinyl's security expects their patrons to be composed and discreet about drug use, etc. I appreciate that and thank them for the safe and dignified setting they provide. Shannon: great to see you again (cutie boyfriend btw ) Sorry we didn't get to chat more. God I love music. It alone is a reason to live.
  17. I loooooooove Dave Seaman Renaissance Desire Track 7 on CD 1: "Drifting...ahhhhhahhh....drifting..." And that gorgeous remix of "Deliver Me" which is one of my favorite songs anyway. That's all I played while driving through Arizona in December. ..."concentrate - it's in your reach!" ::sigh:: When is he coming back into town?
  18. Has anyone tried these? If so, how were they? They aren't testing positive from my Dancesafe kit, but the kit is over a year old and I'm not sure it's still accurate. Any reviews would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
  19. I'm reminded of a quote: "Arguing on the Internet is like running in the Special Olympics: Even if you win, you're still retarded."
  20. No offense bro, but "Welcome to Neptune's: The Shallow End of Darwin's Gene Pool."
  21. Vinyl. Heaven on earth. But with a cover charge.
  22. phuturephunk, I think you're looking for an intelligent or thoughtful response. However, it seems that these days on cp, there are few who are interested in being either intelligent or thoughtful. ::sigh:: This used to be an interesting forum - a place where people actually discussed things. Lately it seems heavy with negativity, small-mindedness and adolescent pettiness. Sorry, phuturephunk. You're definitely one of the smarter board members. It's unfortunate that good conversation is so scarce these day....
