  1. I don't mean to get back on-topic here, but sassa - im just wondering whether you are at all familiar with the situation in Venezuela, currently or over the last 4 years. Chavez is a populist leader who won by a landslide by appealing to the vast poor majority. He inherited a country in shambles with (approx.) 75% poverty rate by promising to create a better life for the poor. The quickest way to enlighten you on what has happened is to indicate that after 4 or so years in power the poverty rate in Venezuela now stands at approx. 86%. Needless to say, Chavez is a corrupt, castro-friendly dictator who at the end of the day does not give a shit about anybody but himself and his friends - basically your typical populist leader. To really make my point in detail would take more time than I want to spend, bringing in all sorts of dependency theories, etc. to hash out the real reasons for Latin America's and Venezuela's woes. I really dont feel like writing that much, so I will leave it at this: the US may have 'sanctioned' the coup, but the actual coup and the people behind it had nothing to do with the US. The coup happened because 300,000 people marched on Miraflores, the presidential palace in Caracas. Under orders from Chavez, 65 people were killed and another approx. 600 (!) injured when the army opened fire on the mass of civilians. The coup reversal happened because Carmona (read the article you posted above to see who he is) started getting power hungry and making appointments that were not in line with what the military leaders wanted. I know this is simplistic, but again, I don't feel like writing a f'n essay here. Have you ever been to Venezuela and seen what the poverty on the mountainside leading out of Caracas valley looks like? Literally tens of thousands of makeshift houses made out of cardboard boxes or anything else people could find for shelter. Once every 3-4 years there are heavy rains that cause mudslides on these mountainsides, killing thousands. And you're going to tell me that these types of government work? Now do you see? your article above means nothing - it is totally irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. Bottom line - no offense, I know you try to be Woodward with your conspiracy theories, but please do your homework on this one - who gives a shit if the US was involved or not - we're talking about the well-being of millions of people here, and there is no way for a straight-minded person to not see that Chavez is taking the country and its people to shit.
  2. ...more than made up for it IMO. Geez he fuckin ROCKED the hard, dark prog, it was awesome - he's quickly becoming one of my favorite DJs. Went on a whim and left kinda early, but it was so fuckin awesome - my first time at Filter, and I LOVED the underground vibe, music was perfect, cool ass crowd, etc. - im sure you F14 veterans know... Hector Romero brought the house down as well. Am I going to absolutely hate life at work tomorrow? The answer is yes, conference call at 8:30, ill probably still be drunky...
  3. music was pretty sick, although i found myself thinking that it was really odd to hear that kind of music at vinyl.. beats just kept on coming, shit was hard! sven definitely rocked it, and i thought the crowd size was just right. Ended up leaving at around 5:30 or so when my buzz started wearing off. saw some cp crew, whattup to phunk, roha, joeyg, lm, crobra, marcid, others - how come i didn't get to meet any of the other 100 cp people that were apparently there? all in all a good night, hangover going on today...
  4. OK, im going to sleep, but if you guys feel like cleaning, just knock...
  5. ha! lol - this sounds like a really good deal, i'm all for it!
  6. If you run out of things to clean at your house, come on over and help me clean mine!
  7. Prog: Kleinenberg Digweed Pappa Howells Deep Dish Lawler Tomiei Trance: Van Dyk Picotto '00' Fleming Armin Van Buuren No particular order
  8. How can you have Sasha and Digweed spinning and still play commercials every 15 minutes? And what about those live transmissions from SIberia (sp.) in long island? this is so weak, ktu sucks, I can't believe they're not just letting S&D mix it up. No wonder I only listen to the radio like once a year...
  9. Im no big-time gamer or anything, but Halo's by far the siiicckest game I've ever played. Literally makes the hair in the back of my neck stand up sometimes when im playing. Graphics are insane, I can only imagine what's to come once they make some more games for the Xbox...
  10. I have been thinking about selling mine. I think the machine kicks ass, PS2 graphics can't touch it. The games are coming. Unfortunately, I don't have enough time to play it. I've had it for 3 months and I'm only like 1/2 way done with Halo! Trancend, if you're serious, PM me.
  11. I will definitely be there for this. Just saw Lawler in Miami, and he fuckin brought the house down. Woo Hoo.
  13. going cold turkey isn't as tasty as it sounds
  14. figured Bev would appreciate a BUMP (no not that kind of bump! get your minds out of the gutter for god's sake!)
  15. Actually, it comes on at 8:00 (i.e. RIGHT NOW) Time difference is 6 hrs. this week.
  16. Hey everyone - this chick is super cool and the apartment rawks. Bev: I agree with the above - a hottie girl would be nice
  17. You're 100% correct, that night KICKED ASS - started at Lola for Lexicon, then Spin for Oakey and D:Fuse, and then PVD@Space. So drunk by the end of the morning... I miss WMC!
  18. This sucks. I was at Spin on the Sunday at WMC, and I did not see Hernan, only Oakey and D:Fuse, but I got there late and thought I had missed him..... Damn, I was ready for this...
  19. Yeah, I thought Hernan was this Thursday??? CCD-can you confirm this, I was all prepared to be hungover as shit on Fri morning at work...
  20. Black Star is like 2 blocks away from my apartment - it is definitely more of a bar, not really a lounge. If you are looking for good lounges, there are tons of better places in the area.
  21. June 21 = first day of summer (equinox)
