the only hurricane that I recall hitting DC, more or less directly, was Agnes in '72. I believe that was only a cat 1 and they were still repairing damage from it into the '90's. If this hits us as a cat 3, it's going to get really ugly around here.

Booze, lots of it, invite friends over, have fun. Tape the windows if it's going to be really bad. Feeling lucky and the storm hits us straight on? then make sure to head out for a bit when you're in the eye of the storm. Don't stray too far and be ready for a quick run back to the house. I know some people that like to have a quick pool party in the eye, doesn't last long, but you get a quick dip in the pool. and yes, the going outside stuff during the eye is incredibly stupid, but then so are most people. I'm glad I park my car in a underground parking garage, just hope it doesn't flood.
