  1. Hey man dont listen to anybody here that P.R sux is beautiful with a lot to do. The best places to stay is either in Old San Juan, Isla Verde, Condado they are very close to each other and those are the biggest tourist places. You can stay in any hotel and all of them have Casinos. Remeber P.R is kind of like Vegas 24hour liquor anyday of the week. You can drink in the beach if you want too. My recomendations. Hotel San Juan is one of the best resorts in the Caribbean you can find good prices sometimes. The Caribe Hilton is dope too I believe they have a cool lounge. But my favorite of all is the Water Club very trendy, exclusive across from the beach and airport and there a two of the hottest bars in San Juan.

    Clubs too see.

    Elements - Old San Juan

The Arena - Old San Juan

    Maze - Old San juan

    Babylon - Hotel San Juan

Water Club - Water Club Hotel

    Go see www.frecuenciaelectronica.com

    www.co*****kie.com

    www.empireempire.com

p.s. The best time to be in Puerto Rico is Christmas time and New Years ,lots of parties all the time

No Offense, but I could not disagree with you more. The only hotel on Isla Verde that is not a rundown old 50s place is the Ritz carlton...maybe the El San Juan is OK too. Everything else on Condado and Isla Verde is a crappy, old, high-rise tourist dorm. The casinos are a joke if you've ever been to Vegas or AC and know what a real casino is like. The beach is a man made small piece of crap. Condado is also full of places like Tony Romas and Burger King.

We stayed in Old San Juan at a place called "El Convento", which was beautiful. I doubt it will be much more than $250 per night through Hotels.com. It's an old convent for the Cathedral and still retains the old-world charm. The street life, food, nightlife and people in Old San Juan are wonderful......but the traffic is miserable.

  2. I could really use some help. I'm planning a trip for New Year's with a bunch of friends, and we decided this year to do PR.

Can anyone recommend any resorts/hotels that they have been to? Any and all info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I just got back from PR. If you're planning to go all I can say is stay in "Old San Juan" OSJ is beautiful...the rest of PR SUCKS.

  3. Thanks for the positive feedback, folks. We've actually lined up more goodies but can't say yet. You should all know that we're on schedule for October and the place is sick. More later.

    Cheers,

    Dade

  4. Interresting topic....

We're in the process of specing the mixers for Nocturnal and it seems there is as much debate about this as there is about overall sound systems.

The Pioneers don't test well on a big system which is why you rarely see one in a club with a high end system. The A&H tests very well except in the high freqs. The Rane is pretty good across the board and is DJ friendly so they usually win out. The Phazon tests great but a lot of DJs don't like it. There's the question of slides vs rotary. English guest Dj like different things than Germans or Dutch.

The best thing to do is make your booth versatile.

The truth is that promoters work really hard to bring the events and DJs to town. Sure it's a good living, but it's a lot of hard work. We never expect that everyone will love the event. We expect that for some the cup of tea will be bitter. Personally, I don't mind when someone says they didn't like what we did but I expect it to be said in a respectful manner without insults or personal attacks. That's all.

  6. Biz is completely right. As industry people, we welcome the opportunity to communicate directly with people who are supposed to represent the core of the clubbing market. It's supposed to be a way for us to get feedback on what we do in a constructive way. Many times we read it and make adjustments based on the comments we get. Sometimes we don't. The point is it could be such a good thing.

Instead, what usually happens is that some jerk-off interrupts the discussion with a personal attack or some other complete bullshit that makes us think it was all a waste of time.

A thread was started with questions about the club we're opening and I was answering when all of a sudden in pops someone (Ozzy) with personal attacks on me and the club. Someone who has never met me or anyone else associated with our venture decided to be an asshole and ruined the discussion and left me feeling like I wasted my time.

It's easy to say that it's all in fun but it's hard to accept that when the shit is thrown in your direction. Oscar G is one of the most respected DJ/producers in the business. I'm not talking about respect from local clubbers...I'm talking about respect that is industry wide and global for more years than most of you have been into dance music. He came to CP with wit and class and always made time to answer your questions honestly. Now, perhaps the most legitimate industry person on CP does not want to partake in the discussion. Your loss not his.

  7. Through the miracle of modern technology we have determined that Sonic1212 is actually Ozzy, the light guy at Space.

So now that we know who you are, why don't you tell us why it is that you're so angry? I mean, we don't know each other so it can't be personal. Maybe we can make it better.

And there's always that offer of the hug if you really need it...

While everyone's enjoying Nocturnal, sad, attention hungry, bitter kids w/their ____ in their hand will be in bed by 12 :)

BTW Dade, 2 comments you made that coulda come from my mouth: re: love nothing more than / dirty underground & HooJ party........

    Are you from NYC???

No way...born and raised in Miami.

  9. When i first got into this business and began to meet the movers and shakers in the "Dance Music" scene, everytime we talked Miami music the one thing that was common to all those conversations was Oscar and Ralph. Long before I met either of them, I learned to respect them for what they were contributing on a global level and what their music has meant to me. I've not loved everything they have done but that's OK. Not all of it was meant for me. That's the beauty of music...isn't it? To this day, they have the respect and admiration of everyone in this industry and certainly mine.

When LP brought Oscar in for the Space residency many people in Miami didn't even know who he was. The irony is that he was much better known around the world than he was in Miami. I remember George Acosta saying to me "Oh shit...Luis got Oscar." Here we are four years later and OG is still holding court and influencing people. Name me another local DJ who has held a residency like that. There are none.

Oscar, keep posting here. You know how important it is to touch your audience and this is a very personal way to do it. And...I still love Dark Beat and am not ashamed to say it.

And to me whatever that guy dose I’m there to make sure it cost him more. Your guy might hire good guys to work for him but no matter what he did something wrong and that will follow him. I don’t need a hug I need you guys too suffer and everything to cost more so it can hurt. So stop with the BS that you’re going to be open in 3 months cause the way its looking your not. Because you got a lot of obstacles to go through before you open those doors.

Again, you're just showing what a moron you really are. He didn't leave anyone hanging. They were dishonest with him so he paid his obligations off and parted company with them and we can all see where they wound up.

AGAIN, WHAT"S YOUR PROBLEM? WHY ARE YOU SO MAD? C'mon, open up...you'll feel better when you come out of the closet and stop hiding behind your alias....really, you will.

Sorry to threadjack, but hey, what's up with the old Shadow Lounge?? Looks like Menage closed a few months back. Is anyone doing anything with that space?

Last I heard, it was being re-opened as Club Isis. Truth is that I know less about what's going on there than you guys.

Place looks cool from the renderings. Sounds like a good setup. Will definitely be interested in checking it out, but don't try to charge us $800 for a table during WMC like LP did to us at Space!

    Let's see......

This will be my eighth conference in the biz. Have I ever charged for a table? NO. Will I do it this year? NO. Even last year at Opium, (a club famous for their elitist attitude and high prices), I lowered all the drink prices for conference, increased the size of water bottles and charged nothing for tables except the cost of the bottles. And, we still made plenty of money. Honestly, LP is the best in the Biz and he knows how to make money much better than I do so I won't comment on that other than to say that he spent BIG BUCKS putting that line-up together.

The hostility caused by the beach night club cause you assholes ran at the last minute without paying people so If you were a snake once you’ll be a snake again. F**KERS. So like you guys try to come in here and sound like you care for these people and BS with all you crap I know the truth. And that’s why you guys are having so many problems with your Nockaka. But I do guarantee if you do open your doors before you guys run out of money these people here will figure you guys out real fast because you aren’t any better then any other club you’re the same shit.:D:peeright:

Are you really that threatened? I can reccommend a good shrink if you're interrested. How about a hug?

For the record: The only involvement that anyone from Nocturnal had in "The Beach" is that the owner helped finance the venture as a silent investor. As soon as he realized what type of people they were, he pulled out. That was long before I came on board.

As for "problems", all those went away with the corrupt and crooked contractor I fired.

Funny but you're the only person on CP who has anything bad to say about me or the project and you do it under an alias. The CP crew has known me for a long time and they know...

    Again...why so angry?

What is the capacity of the club? How much of that capacity will be from table service?

How many different rooms will you have and how many different types of music each night?

    Is there a patio?

I'm sure there are people on CP who already know the answers to these questions, so feel free to chime in.

The way it looks now, capacity will be in the neighborhood of 1500 - 1800. The club has a small "VIP" room on the second floor that will have about ten tables. Other than that, the whole place is open to all. There are "bottle service" tables around the second floor balconies as well as on the rooftop patio.

The club has three seperate sound environments. There will be Hip-Hop. So, iI guess the answer is that you'll have three or more different sounds each night.

Hooj didn't actually go out of business. They have re-structured and are gearing up to do some different things.

Nobody would love another Hooj party more than me. We'll see if they're up for it.

Your only going to cater to the rich plain in simple cause your club cost over 8million dollars. Mind you your paying the same amount of money that space cost to make and your half the size. That means your capacity is not that high, so whoever you have coming inside your club you need them to spend some real cash. So stop with the BS and your guest list because you’re only catering to the rich. Also you’re saying you’re going to be open in 3 months for god sakes you don’t even have a roof yet. Well maybe you will but again you probably have to spend another couple of mills to do it. Dumb asses have fun with your money pit heheheheheh:laugh:

Sonic, my poor retarded friend. I don't think that you want to talk about "capacity" because our "legal" capacity will actually be higher than Space. As far as catering to the rich; we will cater to the rich as well as everyone else. And the really good news is if it does cost another few mil $ to do whatever...we got it covered.

The real question is why all the hostility? Everyone else seems really positive about the project. What are you afraid of? What do you have against Nocturnal? Who are you really? C'mon, show your face. How do you know what Space cost? What screen name do you usually post under?

    Big mouth...no balls.

and everyone, he isnt saying that underground places cant have great events, he is saying that nice places can. And I totally agree with the previous post. Given great music in a shitty environment or great music in a beautifull one, Ill take the beautiful one.

Thanks for translating, Shroom. That's exactly what I was trying to get across.

The sound fills the room nicely and you can still talk to the person next to you. Our dj's are pushing the limits and playin music that may otherwise unheard here.

I think the whole stigma with underground shitholes is they have the ability to take chances b/c they don't have as much to lose. Although I would love to see someone do even a small room dedicated to wierd fucked up music let it be downtempo/ambient/drum n bass/techno/minimal techno/whatever the choice may be. Give the dj/promoters support and you'll see what happens.

Ramon - I don't think that Jazid is a shithole at all. As a matter of fact, I have done small conference pre-parties there for the last couple of years and think it's a great space for a cool party. I think what you're doing there is wonderful and much needed in the scene.

IMO, Maze's system is clear and strong only if you're in the middle of the dancefloor. Space's system fills the room much better.

Slak lounge could be called an underground shithole, but sometimes these are the only places where up and coming dj's who are trying to do something different get a chance to do their thing, the thing is that if the place is nice, it costs money to make it that way, and they need to play it safe in order to make that money back, and rarely take chances on new sounds.... hopefully Nocturnal will be the exception? maybe giving chances to underground sounds to fill the opening slots, or early on the patio, or something, and anyway while I'm at I'll ask you again, where can I send a demo?! ;)

Erick - Nobody loves an underground shithole more than I do. What I was saying is that there are those out there who assume that if the venue is beautiful the music must suck. I would rather hear a dj I love in a better venue if possible. Doing the lesser known DJ/producers is not as much of a risk as people think since they are willing to play for a lot less. If you know me at all, you know I'm not afraid to push the envelope and try new things.

You can drop your demo off at our office whenever you want and I'll show you the whole project. my e-mail - dade@nocturnalmiami.com
