Tony - we had a dress code at Shadow and it was never a problem as you know. We're not going to ask people to wear suits but we will ask them to look nice. And yes, we will clearly state the policy so you won't be at the mercy of the people at the door.

og sez, the DT camp hasn't contacted them, but nocturnal will have a much better system then every club except maze and space. I doubt it's maze, though it could work. And since all 3 clubs won't have a phazon, there will be a far better system then currently at ARC. (After speaking to many people, i've personaly concluded, phazon is over rated piece of shit and steve dash is a criminal, oh wait, i didn't say that, a huge name dj told me that)
How does nv play into this? They would need to truck in a huge system to make any party work. Level is now under opium control and lets face it, they are not as experienced as the ogs and gordon geckos and the crobar peeps. Nerve has a great line up already, so I ask ogmiami, COME ON HERE AND SAY YOU DON'T HAVE DT FOR CONFRENCE OR A RESIDENT.
now here is where it gets interesting. All this ARC drama, club drama, goes threw miami, I don't know why or how, but i certainly know WHO! And that person ain't talking, but have no fear, only a matter of time till we know why you are involved, then it makes headlines over on cj....
But kids, the moral of my theory is: trance sucks and a little club drama is good for everyone...
You asked me this already. The honest answer is that I have no idea what DT plans to do for conference or beyond. I haven't spoken to him or anyone from his camp. I have not worked with him since 1999. My gut feeling is that he already knows what he's going to do and we'll all find out soon.
And by the way...our system will be much better than Maze's. Space's system is too good for me to make that claim until ours gets installed.
Now stop trying to start shit young man and find something useful to do with your life.

You're right. The decisions have been made for a very long time. The good news is that there are several seating areas on the first and third floors that you can use without buying a bottle. Also, there will be a "chill" vibe on the patio in the early part of the night.
The answer to your second questions could get long-winded but here goes...
The club will be "total experience" oriented, as you say. There will be a dress code and we will stick to it. That's not to say that we won't have serious music policies or direction...WE WILL. It's just that I am sick of the attitude that "real music" is only played in underground shitholes. I hate to hear people excuse a shitty venue by saying that it's "all about the music". The truth is that the concepts of amazing music and a beautiful venue are not mutually exclusive. You don't have to dress like a slob to dance and have fun. The best parties are a where mix of people (straight, gay, rich, poor, black, white, hispanic, dancers, loungers) come together and all feel comfortable. For this place to succeed, we have to appeal to a broader audience than just the hardcore music heads. I'm sure that there will be those who won't like it but that's the way it goes.

You've made some really good "demands" and many are already in the works.
I've always been into the Live PAs. In fact, I have probably done more live stuff than anyone here in Miami. The rooftop patio is being equipped with power, lights and removable staging for live acts. I think there's nothing better than seeing these guys actually perform the music.
Classics...we'll see. I'm not against it. Big names...I'm sure you'll see the occasional big name at Nocturnal but our main focus will be great music, not big names. Remember, the place next door does a lot of the biggies and we would be crazy to try to compete with them for that.
Residents...Good suggestion. We'll see. Friday/Saturday...don't count on it.
There will certainly be a dress code at the door. The place is beautiful and the people should look good. It's part of the overall experience, after all.

The honest answer is "not really". I guess that you could potentially see anyone there. Space does a great job, in my opinion, of the "Superstar DJ thing" so the guys you're used to seeing there will be seen there. We intend to be different. I'm sure this sounds like another dodge to you but it really isn't. Once we get open and get a feel for the place, we'll make a lot of those decisions. Also, the venue will determine a lot of that.

The Chicago connection is only that the owner lives in Chi Town. He's not in the club biz there and as far as I know, there's no Nocturnal there.
Residents...Well there are tons of talented DJs here and we've made deals with a few to play regularly at Nocturnal. I really don't want to let the cat out of the bag on that just yet for a lot of reasons but you'll recognize the names when you see them.
WMC...I've done conference parties with some groups for years now and they've become like family to me so it's safe to assume you'll see some of that this year at Nocturnal. Nothing's set in stone yet but as soon as it is, we'll announce it here and on CJ as well as our web site.
Music Format...With three rooms and the extended hours, we can be diverse. Expect something different and fun.

This one doesn't bother me for a few reasons
1.) It is 18+. At 18 you're an adult and can vote or join the Army. Why shouldn't you be able to party and dance?
2.) They're staying away from advertising the "ravey" things like EXTREME VISUALS, MASSAGE ROOMS, FREE GLOWSTICKS.
3.) These guys have been throwing these parties for years and the brand "Candyland" is too well known to just drop.
As for the RAVE ACT, it really has nothin g to do with age. Every club or event is under the same pressure.

If when you say "revamp" you mean that they may do some minor re-modeling then you may be right. But, if you mean that they're going to change their business model and start running their club differently, then I can tell you you're way off. I've had this conversation with kenny (we play golf together sometimes) and he's pretty pleased with the way things are going.

First of all, Crobar NYC has been in the works for almost three years and has been under construction for almost two.
So what you're saying is that Crobar decided to do a club in NYC and Miami nightlife went to shit? I don't know what you mean by "Spice and Bite" but Crobar Miami has been doing just fine in spite of their attention to NY and Chicago. Kenny and Cal are quality operators. Whatever changes were made at Crobar over the last year or so were not because they were distracted by the NY project. They planned it out a long time ago and it seems to be working.
They have a formula that works and they stick to it. I really would not expect major changes at Crobar. If it aint broke...don't fix it.

See in nyc you don't flip flop djs like Space, one dj one club..
Then you have other clubs that try and bring in name after name etc... The name after name thing doesn't work in nyc on a large scale... Exit did it, and it sucked. Before that it was Tsettos and Baez only..
People in nyc don't give a damm about a venue aka arc, nor care about the "cool" party, thats because there is 4097349857349857398457398532485 lounges that fill that market already. The eugens and ohms will alows take that crowd away from the big clubs. and lounges open up so frequently that the club can't substain that crowd. But then again I can see 5000 people a sat night skipping all the hot lounges with the whos who of the social scene so they can hear a sound system and look at a pretty ceiling..

Crobar I am sure down the road will bring in bigger name dj's but I don't think they are catering to the "musically knowledgable" does that mean you can't go there and have fun? I think not. I believe the people you are with make the party as much as the dj.

The truth is that most of the people who are offering their opinions on the new Crobar in NY and the scene in general have never been in the business and are biased by their personal tastes. The truth is that Crobar is doing the right thing. It is far more important for their success to have a crowd that loves the venue and the party that they throw than it is for them to have the "big DJ" scene.
The clubs that are dependant soley on the Big DJs have the problem of drastically reduced revenue when they have only their residents instead of the big name. Also, there are so many different genres these days and the Big DJ will only appeal to a certain percentage of those looking for a DJ oriented event. Crobar's business is based on the party. When they do bring in the Big DJ it enhances their numbers. But, if they don't have the Big name, they still do great business.
Let's remember who we're dealing with. These guys are pros. Trust them.

This is a review from the NY board:
Words simply cannot describe the experience last night at the Press and Industry Opening Party at Crobar.
It is the most amazing club I have EVER experienced.
It was Studio 54 all over again. Naked people sitting on sofa.s above the floor. Punk Rock dressed girls coming down on high wires from the ceiling.
Bartenders standing on top of the bars dancing.
A guy building a dress on the stage made of paper which by the end of the night took up the whole stage area.
3 rooms all packed to the brim with happy happy faces.
The place was packed beyond belief and I estimated over 6000 people.
The lines were so thick to get in the club that the Police had to shut off both ends of the street.
The lines were from 26 street all the way to 28 street.
Celebrities up the wazoo.
Denzel Washington, P Diddy, J Lo, Beyonce etc etc.
To say that Crobar is what every other club can only strive to be, is a real understatement.
Crobar was exactly what New York needed and I'm sorry but you can forget EVERY other club in New York from this point on.
CROBAR was like nothing I have ever witnessed.
It was a whole show from beginning to end with so much to see at every minute.
Now lets talk about the SOUND SYSTEM. Forget it the system took the fuckin roof off with it's power and feel.
the music was amazing courtesy of Frankie Knuckles.
at times the lound hissing of the CO2 cannons went off and in 5 seconds the room was completly drenched in thick white and very cold air.
The lights at this point made the whole experience unbelievable.
In short my advise is dont miss going to Crobar.
It is what all the other clubs wish they were.
If you are going to the grand opening tonight mysuggestion is to get there early if you want any hope of getting in.
Congratulations CROBAR. you lived up to the hype and surpassed it by miles.

Now I don't know what Saleen was reading but I have spoken to many industry peeps who were there last night and all have said that they were completely blown away by the venue, its staff, sound and everything else. According to the New York Times, the Firemarshall estimated that the crowd was over 10,000 people. Not too bad for a "private" opening.
I've been in the space and even before completion it was amazing. My guess is that they will be a force on the NY scene for a long time.
Congrats to the Crobar crew. Keep it up Kenny and Cal.....
