  1. Btw, if u got ag and like this stuff, take jayp's advice and dl nubreed's set. It's wikkid. O ya and this weekend there's this 2. THIS FRIDAY: March 29th 2002: HIT THE BREAKS with Hyper Well my main man Guy "Hyper" Hatfield'll b @ Baktun for Hit the Breax 2. Here's the lineup details 1 last time: THIS FRIDAY: March 29th 2002: HIT THE BREAKS Bedrock Breaks CD Release Party with DJ HYPER. A great follow up for all who missed his blazing Nu Skool sets in WMC this year! DJ HYPER - (Bedrock Breaks,Kilowatt/UK) 1-2:30 SARA WALKER - (Hit the Breaks,Direct Drive) 2:30-3:30JROK 12-1CER 3:30-? ROYCE 10-12and Visuals by Majestic 12BAKTUN - 418 W 14th St (9-10 Ave) NYC $12 Cover/ $10 with Flyer/ 21+ Pls Bring Id Train: A,C,E & L train to 14th St, go WestPurchase Tix at the door or Online at: http://www.groovetickets.com/directdrive And here's my review from his set @ Fluid in Philly from early January. Don't miss this rockin show. Peace. Well the rumors are true. I did indeed make the trek back home (I'm originally from Philly) for 1 nite to see Digweed's lastest prodigy live on the decks in person. And as expected, he's a supercool, nice, andtalented bloke. He stopped by Cue records, down the block from Fluid (far and away the best club period between NY and Buz), a lil after 7, did the usual photoshoot/PR stuff with the store's staff and then spun a few records and chatted with me and some of the store staff for a few mins b4 heading off to dinner. It was pretty disappointing imo that barely anyone showed up to see him @ the store, especially since it was promoted on this site and elsewhere (that's not a slag at anyone in particular, more a comment on how small Philly's own breaks scene is). We talked about a few of the tracks on his comp and he said he too is working on an album hopefully for release later in the year, but definitely not on his own label since he thought that'd be a conflict of interest. He also told me his plans are to be here in NY in March and he's quite looking forward to it since he's never played here before. January isn't happening b/c they couldn't find a venue, as Draco announced on this board himself, and as others up here have told me. So mark your calendars NY, with him, the Plumps, and Soul of Man all tentatively slated to be here, March'll bea heavy month. He also mentioned to me a few places over here he was really looking forward to, but unfortunately he was standing right under a speaker that drowned him out and I rather foolishly neglected to ask him to repeat himself. However, the one name I did catch was Spundae, so LA/SF get ready for some great shows next week since he's amped to see you guys. The set itself was quite nice and the vibe @ Fluid is as lively as any club I've seen, especially considering Philly's breaks scene is even smaller than NY's, so a few local DJs told me anyway. Hyper drew heavily on his album and kept it pretty proper and bangin in a nu skooly, acidic, bassy sound music wise. He must've played half or more of the tracks on Bedrock Breaks, which in this case was basically a good thing since so many of em are upfront, such as Rennie's "This is Acid: Pt 2,"Terminalhead's "Give Me Head," and Puretone's "Addicted to Bass," among many others. He also dropped a track by the Insiders (so I was told) that was very proper acid, right after the Pilgrem one. Nice transition. He was very energetic, very interactive with the crowd during his set (though so relaxed and chilled during the warmup sets that came before him that I almost wondered if he'd dose off...just kidding). And he answered everyone's questions after his set was done a little after 2 (Philly really does close way too early). Let me add, contrary to what some have said previously about his mixing, it is spot on tight, exciting, and hot. His song transitions are smooth, lively, and interesting. He's really lacking nothing in the mixing skills department, and I'm sort've miffed as to where that criticism arose from in the 1st place. He's rightfully one of the best up and coming breaks djsaround. I don't wanna forget to mention that my evening was made much better by the people I met and hung with from Philly, Todd from Cue records, Imri who opened for Hyper and gave a blinding set himself, Anton Chasm a local jock and one of his friend/promoters Pete, and 1 of the women who helped brign Hyper to Philly and is playing Fluid on the 23rd with Imri herself if yer gonna be down there, Summerjoy. A great time was had by all and certainly myself. Get ready North America, Hyper's about to rock the continent like he did theCity of Brotherly Love!!!
  2. I gotta trainspot more often. It brings the reviews to life more when u do that, something I shoulda learned ages ago since it's certainly jayp's forte, among many other people's. And ya deb, the wikkid party was phat. I'd considered goin there forever and finally sara gave me an excuse to go. The next time she plays, I'll post it in advance obviously. But definitely, this shows me how much I'm gonna miss not seein da warriors tonite. Hopefully jaemi from fx3 is wrong about them not bein back till july or later. Hell we're ny, we deserve to get em every other month...esp since 2step's way bigger than breax and there's certainly the audience for it here, even if driveby has to fly em in for exclusive gigs. I @ least would be willing to pay a few bux more to cover the cost if it gave the opportunity to c em @ least evrry 3 or 4 months, as opposed to just once or twice a year. And I'm pretty sure a few of the rest of u would 2.
  3. This was a solid little party. This was my first time @ Plant, and it's a nice lil bar. Nothing fancy, but it worx and the music was tight last nite. With the KSwingsta and the mighty Sara Walker, how can you go wrong? The KSlamma clocked it @ just under 2 hours and delivered an excellent set of "deep funky electro," as she calls her style that nicely traversed a wide terrain of breax. We had everything from touches of nu skool in this set, to trancey electro breax (but not proggy @ all), to more housey sounds, to yummy chunx of electro. That wikkid choon she droped from the East Authentic label (whose title no one seemed to know) was a definite high point, likewise another tune by Mitch "something" that closed out her set. And I think Adam Freeland's "Chase the Sun" is probably the best track I've heard from the breax giant. Despite a whack crossfader, the swingsta delivered to a crowd that grew bigger as the nite wore on increased in appreciation of her virtuoso mixing. The princess of deep electro funk rocked it. Rough artist trainspot list: BLIM & Katie ? General Midi Lee Coombs Duality Timo Maas Lee Coombs New Order's "Crystal" Switchkraft Freeland's "Chase the Sun" back to back bushwacka traxx chris carter's "europa" Miscellaneous on East Authentic Bushwacka's "Billy Jean" Airey Pilgrem & BLIM Mitch ? The mighty walker took command of the dex around midnite and simply rocked em for the next 50 mins (1 of 3 gigs she had last nite!) with strong doses of nu skool through the bulk of her set. Some electro creeped in here too, particularly on gems from the likes of Coombs, Lone Swordsman, and Elite Force. One of the highlights was definitely a track off the new Aquasky album...yum! Clearly not drained in the least from her soirees in Miami, Walker even tweaked the sound system to the point where the volume in the bar increased noticeably during her set. What a difference that was! Nu skool closer to the way it should really sound, and awesome it certainly was. Trainspot list: Lee Coombs Resident Alien Nexus DJ 43 2 Lone Swordsmen Elite Force Rokya Aquasky Creamer & K Mara BLIM Plump DJs Walker's final gig of the nite was @ nyc's premier 2step party @ wikkid and damn was that worth the trip! Suddenly she had an off the hook enthusiastic (albeit not huge) crowd to work, with a mc to compliment her set. The challenge was 2 work a 2 step crowd with breax. How to meld the 2...and the secret melange that made this a smashing success was wikkid's phat resident DJs bustin rhymes over top the queen of nu skools tight, fluid mixing. She only dropped smidgen of 2 step, but many of the rhythms on traxx were steppy and blended nicely with the mcing over top. Even the more pure nuskooly traxx flowed nicely with the vibe of the party. This party is 4 real and no matter how u feel about 2 step, u should get yer bum 2 wikkid. It's the real, raw, dubby, funky, ass shakin deal! This was a great couple of parties brought to the city by 2 of the leaders of ny's breax pack, the thunderous kswing and the simmering sara walker.
  4. This rather confusing post just popped up on nubreax re: the Stantons residency. If Dinesh or anyone else could provide an explanation (preferably asap since this and the hyper event are tomorrow), I for one would really appreciate it. Basically, I'm wondering if this residency is actually a residency (which'd mean they should be back by May @ the latest). Or has it been postponed or what? Thanx. 5. Ya scene's just 2 popular now. O ya...almost forgot, layo & bushwacka @ the fly tomorrow, cara's @ recess (I think), and mike & Katie r @ bsb @ filter tomorrow too. And Hirsham's got his aussie breax party sat @ pseudo. Busy busy week this week.
  6. Now I can hijack yer thread instead of having my own moved again... here's what was formerly on that one: Last minute reminder, if u want an alternative to BigApple breax this week, K-Swing and Sara Walker'll playing plant bar (217 E. 3rd St.) tonite, Wed 3/27. DJ Tangent (yes as in breakbeathead tangent from the UK) was originally supposed to spin, but Royce told me yesterday he talked to him, and was told Rob/Ben won't be in town till next week. I've emailed Sara and Katie and if I get news to the contrary, I'll post it. But you know this is worth comin out to if u can make it. I think details r on bigapple's site. Peace.
  7. Probably Satellite (259 Bowery between Stanton and Houston, http://www.satellitercords.com/ ). Throb (211 E. 14th between 2nd and 3rd Aves, http://www.throb.com/ ) House of trance, and Eightball Records (9th St. between 3rd and 4th Aves, www.eightballrecords.com ) are all also pretty good. For tech house and techno, maybe try sonic groove (sorry forgot the address).
  8. It did snow last thurs nite... a lil anyway. But as far as it sticking, it was probably too warm 4 that. @ least it ain't that cold.
  9. it says "Stanton's will be here every other month." So expect em back around Memorial Day, I guess.
  10. U know where I'm @. Rekall's the only other cp/nber I'm sure'll b there, beside the djs.
  11. On the same nite as sydney!! History was made tonite.
  12. Um.... that's not quite how I meant it Dan.
  13. I missed u guys too ... but it was worth it. I got a good dose of breax the nite b4 w/Sara, Glen, and Cara anyway and if u come 2 plant, filter, baktun, or pseudo this comin week u all'll c me this coming week anyway. Also, I just found out in my email today that the Stanton Warriors will b @ the Sonar Lounge in Baltimore tomorrow (Sunday, 3/24) for those of you not @ the WMC and in or near the capital metro area. I assume no one's goin, but if you decide to email me (breaksny@yahoo.com) cuz I want a ride. http://www.sonarlounge.com/ Finally, I assume I mentioned already I got a copy of sara's new mixtape this week too and it's off the hook. Here's my minireview: sara walker vs. doomer Ok as far as I know it's just a promo mix, and I've hyped these b4 on other boards, but I wanna say sara's new mix is truly off the hook. And not just cuz it has that track on the breax side that Katie's been canning lately and I really love (I think it's Lee Coombs & the Drumattic Twins's "Psychotic Hypnosis"). The mixing is smooth, the track selection innovative, and the flow is relentless. The bpms on the breax side r definitely tweaked faster than normal on several of the traxx and this enhances the mix (as well as this new dance naked vibe that's starting to pervade the breax scene here...well maybe it's the company I've been with lately ). The dnb side flows very well likewise with tight fast driving beats, and nice ravey (but club friendly and tough) percussion and techno-inspired and bass riffs. Best recorded mix I've heard from her, and on a par with CER's and KSwings recent mixes for the best I've heard from the jocks around here. Get this sucka now.
  14. I was down the block from Maudy gettin navdeeped to karsh kale's cdj set @ filter's badass Mutiny partay. Well worth the trip 4 him, navdeep, and zakhm. By the time I got 2 idlewild @ 2:30, it was closed. Jayp later confirmed it ended @ 1:30. O well...the next month's gonna b nuts, and the madness kix off next week. This is gonna rawk!
  15. Well...I dunno how much I can say, but it doesn't seem likely they're gonna come to NY. Philly's the best bet @ the moment and that's still being worked out. If I find out something concrete I'll post it.
  16. A few other notes since I don't think I've posted em here yet. 10sui's gig has been moved from luxx on 4/11 2 Static on Wed 4/17. Also, Layo & Bushwacka r playing the fly with morillo and lottie next thurs 3/28. And there may yet be hope for rennie and blim coming to nyc in may, but it's still very much up in the air. Stay tuned.
  17. Hyper next fri is an one off. And the Stantons is a residency (probably monthly but no one's been able to confirm that yet 4 me). Regardless, yer not talking about longer than May for their return. Take yer pick on the 29th I guess. Hyper's underrated by the bulk of the city imo, quite unjustly so but if u don't like his work, go 2 driveby I guess.
  18. Dusted yer an idiot. We're the same person? What have you been smoking? lol And to answer u, the overwhelming majority of muslims are peaceful b/c their religion demands it. If you don't get that, then you don't get anything about islam. Stop trying, not that you ever did. And that's all I can say? No u moron I don't wanna waste my time on an idiot like u that's y I;m not saying anything on here. That's why most people have left this discussion. And if you think the 2 posts immediately proceeding mine were coherent, and then I'm glad yer warped brain can comprehend some meaning in them b/c mine can't.
  19. Dude r u just bumping this thread 4 the sake of argument 4 the fuck of it?
  20. Oops dumb question I asked, now that I notice the thread subject title.
