I went this past February/March. A few things: It is definitely third world down there. Tons of homeless, people missing limbs, begging etc. I saw a few muggings in the broad daylight there. Surprised me since it is known as such a vacation spot. There are a few different beach areas in Rio. Although Copacabana is the most touristy section (which would seem to me they would make it the nicest), I would advise against staying there. It was dirty both the streets and the beach. We were warned to not walk alone from the clubs back to our hotel because we could get jumped(have in mind, we were 4 well built guys). Ipanema is better, nicer, classier and if you want to go to Copa, it is an easy cab ride. The language barrier gets to be a bit of an annyonace but nothing major. Just something to keep in mind. The food was awesome. There were tons of hot chicks, a majority you could pay for to come back to your hotel with you. Going prices seemed to translate to $40-$60 US dollars. Beers were cheap. Beaches were great in terms of the vendors set you up with chairs and keep bringing you beers all day. Just watch what they try to charge you because they just come up with a # at the end. Taking cabs, make sure they turn on the meter otherwise they try to screw you. Some dude tried to throw mud on my shoe so he could give me a shoeshine. Biggest surprise was how non-glamorous parts of Rio are. Staying in Ipanema is key no matter how crazy people tell you Copa is. I would recommend it, although I don't see it better than Mardi Gras, if even just becaUSE there is no language issue in New Orleans.

Does anyone know of a club or bar, etc that has an oxygen bar? I think Cream used to have one but doesn't anymore.

I question Steve Jobs' declarations. He has a history of these statments claiming to 'revolutionize' this and that. I don't think there have been 2 million downlod purchases to date for all the other services available. In addition, 97% of users do NOT have Macs. ipods considered as well, this guy really expects us to believe that his service has surpassed all other priced download services in just 2 weeks?!! If those sales figures are true, I would be interested to see how many were purchased by Apple employees! Easy there... Can't wait to see what the labels say are the true numbers...

I find this hard to believe. First of all, there have been less than 100,000 dls 'sold' from all the services combined. In addition, only 3% of computer users have MACs, so who was buying these. I get the feeling that Steve Jobs sat at his computer and downloaded songs on his own or required that each of his employees do it. That guy is out of his mind claiming he revolutionized shit again! BTW, not saying you are wrong because that is what his press release said, but I just don't think it is possible.

Not too familiar with Mandalay Bay in Vegas. Just heard that Deep Dish is there on Friday of Memorial Day weekend. Can someone tell me what the club in Mandalay is and what it's like? I checked their website even and only found House of Blues. Is there another one?

Soundscan provides data on sales in the industry. Not sure it is exactly what you are looking for and you may even need a subscription so it may end up not helping you at all. Worth a look though. I would do a search on Soundscan and see what you get.

Not sure you want to do that. Most people clear out of NYC for memorial day weekend. Hamptons, Jersey Shore and even Vegas take a good amount of NYC people. I would stay in Miami.

Anyone know what it does to you chemically? (I could search around but I'm hungover and lazy) What parts of ur brain, what it reacts with, etc? Is it addictive? Any info would be much appreciated.

Shit is nasty, especially if you are expecting X! As stated, it is or was an active ingredient in Robotussin. I know they sell formulas without it now. A far more hallucinatory affect than X, strong visuals (in a bad way) so much that I got real dizzy and threw up! You will get sick taking this!!! Body temp is an issue as with X and you do end up losing a sense of reality! Don't want to be in an uncontrolled environment on it! The desire to talk to others that you can get from X does not happen either.

It was like that for about 8-9 months if not longer after 9/11. It's reassuring to me but also as stated, sad that it is necessary. We used to bring them pizzas and grilled cheese and hot chocolate throughout the winter of 2001/2002 when coming back from clubbing.

Centro doesn't want to become thugged or candy kiddded out. They have always had a good crowd with something to offer for everyone so I imagine if there was an objection at the door, it is/was valid.

Owned by the same people that own Centro-Fly. Decor is the simialr but like tohers said, smaller more chill spot.

Got an email about 2 new venues: Lobby on 38th btw 8th and 9th and Mission at 217 Bowery btw Prince and Rivington. Are these brand new or were they other clubs before? If so, what? Thanks.
