  1. Yes, some girls like house too, but most people who visit Vegas to go clubbing want to hear music they know. What do they hear on the radio? What do they see on MTV? What can they sing along with? What music can go from slower beats to faster beats back and forth. House music is a niche. But to *most* people who come to Vegas, "it all sounds the same and just gives me a headache." This is the reason there are only a few nights at one major venue each that specialize in house music during regular hours (Ra Wednesday and Ice Friday/Saturday) and in order to pack even those nights, the venues are reaching out to huge International DJs. This is no dis on house music. Hell, I used to PD an electronic music radio special in NY for four years. However just because one may like the type of music, doesn't make it the main appeal for the typical Vegas visitor that pays cover and buys drinks.

Very true - but the majority of people who come to the vegas board or even clubplanet in general are into house and dance music

  2. JP, Boris and Deep Dish are all confirmed I beleive - I would probably piss myself if Morillo was booked for the hardrock on Sunday but that is a long shot

Morillo has nothing booked for that day yet but is scheduled to be in Bangkok the day before which is one hell of a flight - that would seriously be the party of the year though

    MORILLO @ REHAB :bounce:

    Someone please make this happen!!!

  3. I had the same problem. MGM just updated the site and tickets are now available to purchase online. Anyone know if buying advance tickets allows passing the lines at the door? I read that somewhere else, not sure. Definetley worth it if its true.

Every time I've had advance tickets it gets you express admission so it is definitely worth it - not to mention it will be cheaper than what the cover is at the door

  4. Now that is something to brag about

Forget the fact that you and your buddy banged some girl in front of everybody on a balcony in Miami, or that your buddies w/ Mark Cuban, or that you sat next to Pam Anderson, or that you spend thousands of $ on clubbing and have more hookups than anybody in the world.

Take a hike pall - you and your posts are a joke - every city you post in you get ripped to shreds and you come off as a total Jersey cheese ball. Nice try though

  5. Vegas is pretty good, but Miami wins, definitely. Las Vegas has a long way to go to catch up to Miami.

I think a lot of this debate comes down to what your priorities are. For example, my priority is music. In that sense, Vegas isn't even the best on the west coast, LA is. Las Vegas does very well in the venue department, but almost all of them are playing the cheesiest, lowest common denominator radio music just about every night. Now, the clubs are obviously very successful with this formula, as many of them are packed to the rafters every week. That doesn't interest me in the least though, which is why I rarely go out to the clubs. The only club I go to on any kind of a regular basis is Ice, and only on Saturdays. I will check out Pure's Tuesday party once school is over with.

Now, if your priority is the scene that the clubs provide, getting the VIP treatment with bottle service, and picking up girls, then yes, Vegas is tough to top. We have some of the best venues in the nation; with the exception of Avalon, our venues put LA's to shame. There is no venue in Vegas that can compare to Space or Crobar Miami or Mansion, or for that matter Opium Garden, Nikki Beach or the forthcoming Nocturnal. Miami has the venues and the talent hitting the decks, so imo they take the cake. NY has the same formula, so you could put them on an even level. Las Vegas has a long way to go to catch up. Fortunately for us, we have people here with seemingly limitless pockets, and new venues are on the drawing boards all the time.

    Very Well Put

  6. That package is definitely legit - I've purchased it before. It used to be a pretty good deal - but now they tack on $25 for a service charge so it comes out to $140 for 2 admissions and the bar tab. They give you a credit card for use at any bar w/ $100 credit on there - not good towards the purchase of a bottle.

They used to have this for the big holiday weekend parties where admission was $40 + there was no service charge - now there is really no advantage to it.

  7. For good music - ICE is definitely the place to go. I think Paul Oakenfold is there this Sat. The crowd is pretty good - no better or worse than any other major club in Vegas. I go there for the music - not the people - but I don't think you will be disapointed - especially if you want good house/electronic music

Body English is probably has the best looking crowd of all the clubs I've been to - music is a mix of hip hop and some rock - its a good party to check out

  8. That party is cool if you are up in the Skyboxes away from the crowd - other than that it is a nightmare on the main floor and the music Spiritworld brings in is total garbage - especially the residents

Deep Dish is definitely looking like the best option for Sunday night after rehab

  9. Im not sure JP was the first one to do it.I remember back in the day Marshall Jefferson and Chippee were looping and sampling stuff on the fly.

I think what Eric does is loop and tweak.

Your right, it can get annoying at time's, but as you can see from my sig, IMO he is the man.

I'm sorry - that came out wrong. I'm sure he wasn't the first, but the first DJ I've listened to who really works the fuck out of tracks. He really doesn't do this all that much anymore. Morillo does a lot of sampling too - he drops all kinds of random accapellas (at least when he was out here in Vegas - not as much in Miami but he did a few) and samples of songs over newer beats. I know in the past he has played different in NY and Jersey though

Either way Morillo is the man - he brings VIBE to a room like none other

  10. Have you seen Erick Morillo? If you have, you would know what I am talking about. He puts on a record, a great house record, with an excellent groove, plays it for a few minutes, lets the crowd get into it, and then he breaks it down to near silence. I like him, but that is pretty annoying. It doesn't make any sense to me at all. I can think of at least three times during his terrace set at Space during WMC where he would bring the record down to silence for a good 6-8 seconds before bringing it back in. What is the point of that?

Yeah - I saw Morillo when he was out here at ICE and at Space. I know exactly what you are talking about too - we just call it 2 different things.

Personally - I am a huge fan of building up a record and looping it for a while - its a technique first mastered by Jonathan Peters - and now Morillo. But it does get very annoying when he cuts it down to complete silence - b/c you are expecting the track to explode at that moment. I noticed it once or twice at ICE and it definitely stuck out more for his terrace set (inside he played pretty smooth) - and from what I heard about his B-day this past Friday in NY - it happened quite a bit more

Another thing to keep is mind is that Morillo gets fuckin wrecked for (especially for afterhours) and his spinning does tend to get sloppy at times I've heard stories of him extremely drunk or fucked up - my buddies in NY tell me he is notorious for this in the late late hours of Crobar and Discoteque performances and his music is all over the place

  11. The last 2 times Roger was here he was amazing and the terrace set at SPACE a few weeks back was possibly the best I have ever heard

Do not miss this guy - after hearing him last year in Miami and 3 times in the past few months - I have a hard time beleiving there is a better house DJ out there

  12. bro, you need to get a life, why all the bull shit for, who do you think you are impressing, i'll tell you who, absolutly nobody.........

Who are u kidding - this guy is a message board god!!! He sounds like one of the coolest people that stepped foot in Miami. I'm gonna get in touch w/ this kid for next year because he really knows how to party

    :blown: YEAH RIGHT!!!

  13. Sounds better than when we were there just over a year ago. My buddies were convinced that Vegas was all about Hip-Hop. :vomit2:

That must have been the Halloween party @ ICE the first time he spun in October 2003. That party did empty out pretty early - still a good time. JP's parties out here are usually packed for the Holiday weekends b/c everyone from the east coast is usually out here

Vegas actually is mostly about hip hop - but ICE consistantly brings in top of the line talent these days.
