  2. This Saturday we start our residency at Luna … 701 Washington Ave. … as we welcome …

Ali Ajami is no stranger when it comes to US club residencies … Ali has been a resident at Chrome at Axis ... in Boston ... since December 1999 … and holds a residency along John Debo ... at Avalon in the same city ... the latter considered one of the strongest residencies in the country …

To describe him better … who better than Ali himself … :)

    About his residencies:

"The crowds at Axis are more musically knowledgeable and there is a certain sound and vibe at Chrome and I stick with it. At Avalon the people just love grooving and they want something that catches their ears. When I buy records, I look for something that's original. I always keep the dancefloor in mind and I think about what kind of effect a track with have on the crowd. As long as my personal taste isn't compromised, I really try to play for the room,â€

    About what to expect:

"There's that feeling I get before I start to play is hard to describe, but it’s the reason I love to play. People talk about the power and the glamour, but I love the concept that you can use songs to create movement. When I am playing, I want people to be excited because I am playing something fresh and different. I want them to say, I can't wait until next week,"

Opening for him is Dave Preston … his first ever gig at P:M Sessions … we are as proud as excited about Dave’s residency with us … undoubtedly Dave is one of those DJs that can bring absolute quality to any nite …

Both as a DJ and producer … Dave has been involved in developing the scene in Gainsville for the past years … furtheremore … his productions are being played by some of the leaders in the industry …

Closing the nite are Cianci and Avila … last Saturday they started their residency with us … closing for Vich & Berger … they have been responsible for establishing Strictly House and Bedtime Sessions …

Reinforced sound and some proper visuals to further spice up the nite ... ;)

Boston clubs close at 2 AM so the club is only open for 4 hours meaning that the resident and guest split the time evenly. Ali had the right music for the night, played it extremely well and had the floor moving when Felix came on. I was impressed. Debo and Ajami are a wonderful resident team.

Those were really fun times...and that's all I have to say about that :D

In my humle opinion, when a DJ is able to "mix in key" he/she actually has to have a great ear for music as Jon stated and subsequently the DJ is able to select tracks in which the Harmonics, Partials and Overtones of each track are so well matched that the set seems to flow seamlessly and tracks form an amalgamation of sound. I have heard artists play in this way and just stood there in awe as the set flowed and the music seemed so well planned that I just couldn't tell where one track began and the other ended....very rare, but great to see and hear when it happens!

Most of those DJs do have a music background ... hence ... they mark their records to keys ... to find them faster ...

It is used for track selection ... which in many cases flops ... as a crowd gets lost in the way ... but if they are on target ... you are in for a f***ing treat ... :shades2:

Back to the topic at hand...The fact is that we have to unite and fight for the right to party (legally). Night clubs aren't the only place in our society that drugs are being used illegally. In schools, at work, on the streets and even in government offices, illegal drug use is rampant and abundant. It affects every part of our society. Should we close down our public schools, place of employment and government offices also? The notion that this nations night clubs are the source of drug abuse in our society is a blanket statement that is nothing short of ludicrous. Listening to music and dancing is not a crime. The unconstitutional Amber Bill / Rave Act / Crack House Law is being used to shut down night clubs, concerts and public gatherings. Night clubs should not be blamed for the inefficiency of our nation to control the importation, distribution, sales and use of illegal drugs. Shutting down night clubs will not make or drug problems go away. Today it's your right to assemble in peace tomorrow...wake up and smell the oppression.

and that's all I have to say about that...for now.

See you all manana at Spacio34.

    Thank you for your support.

I am sure more guys play like this but I know these guys do it for sure... in some respects it does limit you but in others in totally enhances your performance..

Shem is the master of mixing in key ...

Most of them receive so many records that they mark the keys on the outer cover of their vynil ... as a guide ...

Their set flows thru keys ... when the track selection is there ... it is amazing ... when not ... it flops big time ...

I believe key mixing is appropiate to a big room thou ... where the flow of a set is a story teller ... doesn't require a constant push of beats in order to not lose the crowd ... as in a smaller room ... just my humble opinion ... :shades2:
