  1. Im going out with a few friends this Sat. and I know that the Shelter party has a great vibe. Its moved downtown but is that still a good party? And if not can anyone give me any reccomendations for the 21st for good music and a great vibe. Thanks
  2. Not to rain on anyones parade - i would love to go to this - but I cant justify going because how can it be any fun if you cant move?
  3. I think your friend at work may not be paying taxes. Because there is definietly state tax in NJ if you live there and Im almost 100% you have to pay NY, NYC and NJ tax if you live in NJ and work in the city.
  4. I think its just the opposite. You have to pay New Jersey and New York state taxes along with city taxes if you live in Jersey and work in the city.
  5. you might want to check out Astoria, Queens which is a couple stops away from Manhattan and if you really want a good price check out Jersey City (Grove Street or Journal Square) thats relatively close to Manhattan (15-20 minute ride into Manhattan on path) check it out. I think you might find Brooklyn to be a little pricey for the better neighborhoods.
  6. The reason why Im asking this is I dont go out much and when I do its for a bigger name dj where I know Im going to like the music - like a Timo Maas or a PVD this weekend. But when I go to see a lot of these big DJs it gets so crowded I cant even dance (which is the main reason I go). Then the next day I read the reviews and everbody says how much they loved it. So I was wondering how do people have a good time at a place like this? I find it very annoying getting bumped into every other beat and not being able to move.
  7. Hey - Im on vacation and am looking for a good club in South Beach on Thurs. Looking for somewhere with different rooms and cool vibe. Thanks.
  8. Hey Ive been in the restaurant industry for 15 years and on one hand, yes bartending school is not what it is cracked up to be as far as job placement. For every 25 servers there are 2 bartenders. However, I did go to bartending school and it does get you comfortable with the drinks and the basic techniques. The number one best thing you can do is know somebody in the business, the second best thing you can do is being willing to start off as a barback as they do a lot of grunt work but make decent cash and sometimes get to bartend a little. So like I said if your going to learn technique then by all means go, but if that schools boasts a strong job placement then they are full of shit. Probably your best way to get started bartending is to bartend as a caterer in the city. Its not too hard aka vodka/tonics, wine pours, cosmos, martinis, etc. Good luck.
  9. I remember seeing him for the first time in '99 and I thought he was amazing saw him a few more times and thought some nights were good and some bad and then it seems he just went to shit and I couldnt stand him anymore. I was wondering if I just got too old for him, or if he just became crappy and maybe the drugs got to him. Like the people who always bash him did you like him at first and then become like me?
  10. Never heard this song, but hear it's amazing....does anyone know where I can listen to it other than going to see Danny T. spin?
  11. this is the local union - you dont screw over millions of people for leverage purposes - there are certain public servants that really cant strike and this is one of them - shame on them - they are ruining peoples lives for their cause.
  12. Hi everybody. I just got a full time job as a job recruiter M-F 9-6 but unfortunately I am only getting paid $10/hour. I need another $200 a week. Waiting tables is a last resort. I also used to bartend but getting home at 5AM doesnt work for me. I do catering but we are hitting the dead season. I also used to ride a bike taxi which would be ideal but I messed up my back. Im running out of ideas so if anyone could give me any reccomendations I would appreciate it.
  13. There are two place in Jersey City that are relatively nice - one is where you mentioned and the other is the Pavonia Newport station even though I dont like it there because other than the water it has no personality all the buildings are cookie cutter - very corporate. I actually saw an article in Mens Health that ranked Jersey City as one of the top 5 happiest places in America. I almost choked. Other than those two places the rest of Jersey City has a long way to go...and I mean a long way.
