Brett 'the hitman' Sylvia DJ Brett Sylvia is a pioneer of the Southern New England dance music scene. The three year run of his weekly Friday night party at Metropolis night club in Providence (now Ultra) still stands as one of the most successful house music nights in the region's history. Regularly drawing crowds in excess of 1300, Brett honed his unique talent for stirring a room into frenzy with his relentless assault of floor fillers. Brett the Hitman, didn't stop at the 2am curfew, regularly brandishing the darker side of his groove at Providence's after hour spots, Starzz, Pulse and Club Therapy. Not content to rest on his laurels, Sylvia moved to Florida and attended the demanding Full Sail Recording School in order to learn the other side of his craft. Upon graduation, he returned to Rhode Island and joined forces with Tweak Entertainment and quickly engineered another wildly successful weekly party on Friday nights at Fahrenheit in Providence. After a run of consecutive sellouts in excess of a year at Fahrenheit is was again time to move on. Currently Brett can be found at the upscale waterfront lounge, Moda on Thursday nights and the eclectic new hotspot, Pearl nightclub on Saturday nights. Both as a performer and an event planner, Sylvia along with Tweak and Unleash entertainment continue to throw lavish events, draw large crowds, and keep the house music fire burning without the support of mainstream media. Ed:e Armand With almost 8 years behind him as a DJ, the name Ed:e Armand has become synonymous with the term "House Music" in South Eastern New England. His success, in Rhode Island began, almost accidentally, as he worked part time at an entertainment company while attending college for broadcast communications. Knowing Armand's passion for House and electronic music, his employer, literally, dropped him into the dj booth of one of their biggest club accounts. With his background as a musician in local area metal and industrial bands, Ed:e learned quicker than most novice dj's and found himself the club's resident dj, for their weekly "Anthem" party, for over three and a half years. Through that time he also maintained regular appearances at legendary Club Starzz and The Emerald Room after-hours clubs. Later Ed:e would move on to push house onto young clubbers with residencies at "Home" (Zooom Lounge), "Plush" (Ultrlaounge), "Shake" (Lot 401), "Global" (Prov) and his own series of all-night parties, "Reclaiming Paradise", "Return to Paradise", "Electric Paradise" and, most recently, the Hurricane Katrina benefit, "Rebuliding Paradise", where he fused underground dance music culture with mainstream clubbing by showcasing New England's best dj's. In early 2005, Ed:e was hand-picked for a seat on the "Scion Emerging Artist's Tour 2005" as one of Scion's choices for exciting regional talent. His guest appearances have included almost every Providence area nightclub or, lounge and countless events, after-hour or all night parties. From lounge to super club, Ed:e Armand plays for the room. He brings his passion for the music and his brand of deep, funky, tech, progressive, or tribal house to the club for one reason and one reason only... the party. Martin Jr. Martin Gauthier Jr. (aka dj martin jr) first discovered his passion for house music in the spring of 1997, after taking numerous trips to some of NYC’s hottest nightclubs such as Twilo and the Sound Factory, hearing dj’s like Junior Vasquez and Jonathan Peters completely blow him away. He then knew he wanted to contribute to dance music culture rather than simply observe it. Already schooled in the practice of mobile gigging by his father, he landed his first weekly residency in 1999 @ Tequila’s in Narragansett, RI. It was here that Martin found his path, converting a Friday and Saturday night mainstream music venue into the only exclusive dance music format in the area. After playing there for over a year, Martin moved on to becoming a resident dj @ “The Club†(now named Studio 3) in Newport, RI. From that point on, he has appeared at a handful of the hottest venues all over Southern New England such as Metropolis, Pulse, Therapy and the Ultralounge to name a few. Since joining forces with “Tweak Entertainment†in 2002, Martin has been a featured jock at a countless number of afterhours events, including 2 memorable sets from the now legendary “Paradise†parties. Martin’s sound has no question evolved with the times, and you can expect nothing less than cutting edge, chunky, groovy, vocal and progressive house when he’s behind the decks. “Joonya†now makes his musical home @ Lot 401 on Saturday nights, teaming up with his long time dj counterpart and friend Ede Armand. Martin’s musical influences range from classic rock to hip hop, leaving no time or space to simply name a few. He is a FAN of the music first and foremost, and it shows when he is playing, bringing a true party vibe to every gig. Neovision Aktiv & Ra have established themselves as a DJ duo immersed deeply within the heart of New England's nightlife community, displaying a genuine passion, integrity and commitment to broaden, showcase and support all things House. Combining their own unique musical tastes into an electrifying mix of smooth, sultry progressive rhythms and hard-hitting, aggressive beats, Aktiv and Ra continue to push forward their ability to overwhelm and captivate every dance floor they descend upon. Dj Kevin Nazty New Year’s Eve 2002, Karma club Boston, it was one of those moments that would make or break you as a new DJ to the scene. Kevin stepped up to decks that night, for his first live performance with a crowd, and dropped one nasty thumping track after another, progressively raising the intensity of the crowd with each bomb that he threw at them. Kevin has learned that you’re only as good as your last set, and keeping this in his mind is what drives him to push for the next level. His friendly attitude and untiring work ethic has landed him guest spots and residencies in places such as Tantra (MA), Axis (MA), Q (MA), Therapy (RI), Ultra (RI), Karma (MA), Fuel (MA), Beat Khemistry (NH Radio Station), and Vision (MA). Kevin has learned a ton and has become friends with some of his local influences such DJ Manolo, Paul Dailey, and Joshua Carl. Some of his heavy favorites are Carl Cox, Saeed & Palash, Oscar G & Ralph Falcon (MURK), Peter Bailey and Victor Calderone. Kevin’s influential diversity shows in his seamless sets. Not limiting him to one or two genres, you can be slapped with anything from Rhythmic Tribal, NYC House, high-energy vocals, Hard Driving Trance, to Dirty Tech. With all that he holds in his bag of tricks, he has the potential to link up with anyone. He has the ability to work with and tweak out any system out there to devastate the dance floor with a smirk on his face. Recently joining forces with Vincent Spinelli, aka Diesel, they opened G-Squared Recordings, their studio, and have been working diligently since. They have recorded some artists as well as making remixes and their original production. Kevin and Vincent are really excited about the venture and feel it is moving in a very positive direction. Dj Diesel Born and raised in Revere, Massachusetts, DJ Diesel is no stranger to the club scene. As an avid club-goer, his love for music dates back from the time he heard his first beat. Diesel credits his ambition in becoming a DJ to a couple of long time friends in the music industry. From his first time experimenting on the turntables, his unforeseen talent of transforming his love of music into sounds that touched others astounded Diesel. And since that moment he has relentlessly pursued his to desire perform; dedicating all of his time with continuous practice, striving to learn more. Diesel’s mixing technique and creativity have shaped a style and sound all his own, delivering a surge of earth shattering bass lines and tribal rhythms. The beats he serves give off an energetic vibe that grasps audiences of all genres. Diesel got his first shot to spin professionally, at “Sophia’s†(a local Boston nightclub). He made such an impression, he was asked back to co-resident. From that night on, things only prospered for him. With an abundance of help from local area promoters, Diesel’s first big career opportunity was a bi-weekly spot at Sunrise After-hours. His six-hour sets allowed him progress as a DJ, and establish a supportive fan base, making him very eager to advance. Sophia’s, Sunrise After-hours, Avalon, and Tilt are some of the Boston hotspots Diesel has made appearances, in company with many other venues broadening outside of Boston as well; Rhode Island hotspots, Metropolis, Therapy after-hours, and his NYC debut with DJ Boris at Club Discotheque. Although Diesel has only been in the industry a short time, his career is flourishing with many projects in the works, welcoming all opportunities. Currently, Diesel is in the studio working on his other love, production. Dedicated, aggressive and hard working, he admits his greatest joy is to see people dancing and having a good time.

  17. TYM RYAN [RISE / SPIN CYCLE. BOSTON] www.tymryan.com Over the years, Tym Ryan has led all kinds of people on a variety of dancefloors to fall in love with electronic dance music. In the late 1980s, on the cold northern campus of University of Maine, Ryan DJed an industrial/electronic music program at the college radio station, using basic turntables without pitch control and fashioning his own slipmats out of felt and silk. As early Chicago house and acid house made their debut into the underground music current of the United States and Tym's record box, his stunning technical skills and instinctive track selection landed him behind the decks at the earliest warehouse parties and raves to occur in the United States. He and fellow Bostonian John Debo teamed up in the early 90s at Axis to host "Culture," widely-agreed as the most influential New England club night to spread the then-secret gospel of acid house. As one of the East Coast's first and best DJs, Ryan has always led the scene with his casual disregard for what's hot/what not, instead following his intuition. Since then, Ryan has humbly guided the dance music wave that washed over the States, playing gigs all over North America - LA, Miami, Seattle, Montreal, Quebec, Toronto - and Europe. Having been there, done that, played with (insert name here) and seen it all, Ryan remains unceasingly passionate about quality dance music and the pure fun that it inspires. Perhaps most impressively, Ryan's former resident club night, "Spin Cycle," was one of the longest running weekly club nights in the United States. The spirit of the night, much like Tym himself, focused on a funky, party-down atmosphere that aimed to have as much fun as possible in four short hours. In testament to Ryan's exceptional - but never snobbish - knack for quality, he was the first person to bring (now uber-successful) Timo Maas to play in the U.S., resulting in a two-year monthly Spin Cycle residency featuring Hope Recordings artists (Leon Alexander, Max Graham, Ian Wilkie, and Starecase). Ryan has a much-loved, fanatically loyal crowd - devoted to his tech-funk progressive selections and the dancefloor - that attended Spin Cycle religiously and continue to follow him wherever he plays.

  20. JOE BERMUDEZ [ www.joebermudez.com ] With turntables outselling guitars nowadays, it seems everyone has turned to the DJ profession. With an onslaught of upcoming talent, it can sometimes be tough to be noticed in this ever-popular field. Despite all the obstacles, Boston based Joe Bermudez has managed to carve a nitch of his own. Whether it’s constantly touring North America, remixing platinum selling artists or being heard on his national radio shows; in one way, shape or form, you have at one point heard the talents of this fundamental DJ. This California native started his career in radio and landed his first gig as a board operator at a WKZS in Auburn, Maine. In only a few short months, he quickly ascended the ranks and found himself as on on-air personality hosting his own show, “Kiss Klub Night.†Always one to strive for more, this young go-getter would continue his climb to the top and in no time, he was the music director for “Open House Party†with John Garabedian, a syndicated radio show heard on hundreds of radio stations throughout the country every weekend. From there, he would move on and become the music director for a station of his own, the marketing director for a cluster of stations and now can be heard all over the US on XM Satellite Radio and in millions of homes on Music Choice in addition to his mix-shows on WAKS in Cleveland and WAKZ in Youngstown, Ohio. As if that wasn’t enough, he is also still regularly featured on Open House Party and somehow finds time to write for DJ Times. Over the past few years, he has embarked on a career outside of radio and into the club scene. In only a short matter of time, his definitive style has impressed the club community enough to build a remarkable resume having already played at hundreds of clubs around the country. From Miami to Vancouver, Boston to Honolulu this DJ has been hard at work letting the world know what he is all about. From wrestling matches with Daniel Bedingfield to Steven Tyler hitting on his date backstage, Joe always seems to find himself in the center of the action. With high profile gigs such as Grammy after parties or parties for the NBA All-Star game and the Miss America Pageant, it’s no wonder why his peak-hour sound and smooth delivery is such a hot commodity. This rising star has already had the pleasure of playing along side such greats as Boy George, Darude and the band Dream. He has released a CD on 4 Play Records and lately has taken on the task of remixing. His break in that field came thanks in part to Pink’s belief in him. This aspiring producer was responsible for remixing 3 tracks off of her album “M!ssundaztood,†which has sold over 10 million copies. Since then, he has had the pleasure of working with such industry giants as Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Leann Rimes. His remixes have been used on numerous radio stations and have been played by such influential DJ’s as Junior Vasquez and Thunderpuss. Chances are if you go to clubs, you will hear the pounding tribal rhythms this exhilarating DJ is known for or if radio is your cup of tea, at some point you will hear one of the many pop rhythmic treats he has helped create. Joe Bermudez is definitely a name you need to familiarize yourself with. Without a doubt, he is one of the hardest working people in the game and before you know it, it wouldn’t be a surprise to anyone if he were a household name.
