  1. Front page Resident Advisor news says: New York promoter and DJ Taimur Agha will be celebrating his birthday this year the best way he knows how: By bringing in some of the international DJ elite to celebrate with him. Craig Richards and Ivan Smagghe will play alongside Taimur and fellow Blk|market Membership promoter Fahad at Studio B this weekend. Richards, of course, is a Blk|market regular, having made his way over to the States many times last year to play for the party, but Smagghe is a newbie, presumably making up for the date he missed last summer due to illness. Playing in the side room this night will be Dennis Rodgers of the sadly defunct Robots crew, along with Tom Amoroso and recent Colorado transplant Crazy Larry http://www.residentadvisor.net/news.aspx?id=10079 TimeOut NY says: Taimur and Fahad’s Blkmarket Membership takes control of the still open (but not for long) Studio B for another session with Craig Richards, a resident at the London club Fabric and a fine player of electronic house, minimal techno and the like. But that’s not all: The party has scored a twofer by bringing in Parisian DJ-producer Ivan Smagghe, the former member of electro-bleep duo Black Strobe, whose sounds veer towards the romantic, near-gothic end of things. The two will be tag-teaming on the main floor, while the side room sees deck action from Robots’ Dennis Rodgers, 112 Crew’s Tom Amoroso and Cheapsunglasses’ Crazy Larry. Their album Pony Slaystation put them into the avante garde minimal spotlight, bringing their stripped down house and techno sound to the masses. Sammy Dee is also well known for his track he co produced with Guido Schneider entitled 'Styleways' which was released on Steve Bug's 'Pokerflat' imprint and charted by almost every big DJ in the scene. 7. FLAVORPILL SAYS: The guy who basically wrote the minimal playbook way back in '94 with his seminal record Minimal Nation returns to NYC for a three-hour set of decks 'n effects on Love's monstrous sound system. Alongside Jeff Mills and Mike Banks, Robert Hood founded Detroit's Underground Resistance and has remained vital within the techno scene since, as his mix for the Fabric's excellent series showcased earlier this year. Working with a limited palette of tight kicks, crisp hi-hats, and throttling bass lines, Hood weaves repeating synth lines and metallic chords together, yet somehow manages to coax a human element out of his Motor City machine music. – Axel Anderson http://flavorpill.com/newyork/events/2008/12/20/robert-hood TIMEOUT NY SAYS: Blkmarket Membership takes control of Love and its super sound system, and the gang is again making the most of it: Tonight’s headliner is Robert Hood, a producer who was among the first wave of minimalists in the techno world (his Minimal Nation LP came out 15 years ago). He'll be doling out his steely sounds in a decks ’n' effects set, with Toast's Pjay and residents Taimur and Fahad opening up. *CRITICS PICK* -Bruce Tantum http://www.timeout.com/newyork/events/house-techno-electro/260333/blkmarket-membership
  8. Blk|market Membership is proud to welcome Robert Hood for his first time ever performance at LOVE NYC. This event marks a 3 hour special Decks n' Efx set which Robert will be performing for us New Yorkers. Mark December 20th down on your calendars as we bring you his Fabric 39 release party. He takes his stripped-back minimalism, pours emotions through hi-hats, sings with the rhythms and gives this mix a feeling of humanity. Its like a story that describes a journey from start to finish. Hood is regarded by many as one of the founding fathers of techno's development. We are very pleased to finally have him join us. 10. London's legendary secretsundaze party is being held in NYC for the very 1st time. Inspired by cutting edge clubs in the UK and Ibiza, Giles Smith+James Priestley along with some friends lauched Secretsundaze in 2001. This party became one of the hottest house/techno events in no time at all for guest dj's and people all over europe. These summer parties with its colorful vibe soon was voted by many and Time Out in London as the 'Best Club Night' as well as 'Club of the Year' by Mixmag. Past guests have included Ricardo Villalobos, Carl Craig, Steve Bug, Mike Shannon, Luciano, Ame, Losoul, Ivan Smagghe, Jay Haze, Mr. C, Bill Patrick, Tobi Neumann and Jus Ed just to name a few. From secret locations to actual venues, this sunday party spread like wildfire. The buzz of secretsundaze rapidly landed Giles Smith and James Priestly to bring their party all over europe from Ibiza in 2005/2006, to Sonar Festival 2005/2006/2007 and Snowboarding in Austria. We have been keeping an eye out on these guys for sometime now and are very happy to bring the secretsundaze party to New York City for the first time ever. This party however will start at 10pm on a saturday night and go into the early hours of sunday morning instead. Its a slightly different format, but its nothing that won't stop you from coming. Lastly you can pick up Giles Smith and James Priestley's new secretsundaze vol. 2 double cd that just was released. a great showcase of house music at it's best. www.secretsundaze.net for more info.

  13. Berlin's PanoramaBar resident DJ who is otherwise known for her famous house sets at one of the world's best clubs makes another stateside trip to play at Cielo for the first time ever. Blk|market Membership who had first brought Cassy to play in NYC back in May 2008 are proud to team up this time with Cielo to bring the Austrian/Carribean born Cassy back to what many are calling 'her' perfect club fit in NYC. Her productions and works consist of co-productions with Luciano on "La Ondita," "Alpine Rocket" with Mathew Jonson, and even to projects with Steve Bug as "Tracks in the City." She has also released other tracks and remixes on labels such as Perlon, Mental Groove, Echocord, Dessous, Playhouse, Cocoon, Uzuri, Beatstreet, Connect Four, her own imprint Cassy, and even on M_nus with Ricardo Villalobos. Also to note that she is a dj who strictly plays 100% Vinyl. With a strong singing background, she incorporates her voice, ideas and rhythms to create her own unique sound of house. This Thanksgiving weekend, her set will be 'A Night to Remember.' 14. The Canadian born Mike Shannon has recently located to Berlin via Montreal in 2007. After almost 10 years making a name for himself in the scene, Mike finally has put out a new full length album on Richie Hawtin's acclaimed Plus8 label entitled 'Memory Tree.' On top of being a fantastic DJ, Mike Shannon also runs 2 of his own labels: Cynosure, and Revolver Canada with Jeff Milligan. Cynosure has welcomed artists who have inspired Mike as a DJ such as Pier Bucci, Monolake, Sieg Ãœber Die Sonne, Brett Johnson and many more. Mike has also released many of his own productions under his dancefloor friendly label. Revolver Canada is more on the experimental minimal side and has helped launch the careers of artists such as Akufen and Deadbeat. Both these labels still continue to push forward thinking music to the masses. We at Blk|Market Membership are proud to announce Mike Shannon's Plus8 Album release party here in New York at Bar13 this Thursday Nov 13th. If you have not picked up a copy yet of his new album, we suggest you do as its a brilliant album and something completely different soundwise for Plus8 label! Also added to the line up is Eddie Krillov from Alka_rex/Less NYC who will be performing the opening duties. Taimur+Fahad close the night. 15. *FRIDAY NOVEMBER 7TH BLK|MARKET MEMBERSHIP's 50TH PARTY* After 2 years and little bit more, Blk|Market Membership hits its 1st milestone and is proud to present its 50th Party in style. Still holding the techno torch that was handed to them by their friends and family at ROBOTS, Taimur+Fahad are going even bigger with their bookings and talents who inspire them as dj’s. We have searched and asked around as to who people thought would best fit our special 50th party and we came up with an amazing solution. In our opinion we couldn’t have thought of anyone better to do such an honor other than one of the most in demand acts at the moment, Johnny D. His tracks currently are massive with all the house and techno djs all over the world and are appearing constantly in numerous mix cd compilations. Everyone from Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano, Craig Richards, Richie Hawtin, Lee Burridge, Andrew Weatherall to Danny Tenaglia and Sasha all are constantly hammering his tracks and remixes in their sets. Its safe to say that Johnny D has become such a big talent within the past 2 years mainly, that he has been very hard to book and get over stateside to play in the US due to him being booked constantly every weekend around the world. With a lot of convincing, he is finally coming and playing our party as part of his mini-tour in the U.S. The special treat we have for all of you is that he will not be djing, but will be doing an extended live PA set! Gui Gomez of Family Business NY opens and Taimur+Fahad close the night.
  16. FRIDAY NOVEMBER 7TH BLK|MARKET MEMBERSHIP with residents TAIMUR+FAHAD present: OUR 50TH PARTY + NEW YORK CITY DEBUT OF JOHNNY D Live! (Oslo/Cecille-Germany) Opening Set by: Gui Gomez (Family Business - New York) $15 General Admission $10 ALL NIGHT IF YOU RSVP: leader@blkmarketmembership.com DOORS OPEN 10PM BAR 13 13TH STREET+UNIVERSITY Entrance on University http://www.blkmarketmembership.com http://www.myspace.com/oslorecords http://www.halcyonline.com http://www.bar13.com Johnny D bio As the son of Eritrean refugees, Johnny D became acquainted with a wide array of music styles at an early age – from Tigrinya, the Eritrean music of his heritage, to hip-hop, funk and soul. During the breakbeat-craze in the Rhein-Neckar delta he first came into contact with electronic music at the age of thirteen, soon afterward deciding to take to the turn tables. His first electronic music sets at modest breakbeat events followed, and Johnny D. quickly developed into a versatile artist active in the Mannheim Collective. He met Ray Okpara in 1999 by the good grace of their mutual hip-hop interest. They would both later organize the Rajo-Music house parties and spin together at the Loft Club in Ludwigshafen. Johnny D was also active in the Rhein-Neckar party scene as one of the co-founders (Ray Okpara, Federico Molinari, Nekes) of the Mannheim Zoo Club, which quickly rose to wild popularity with its rotating line up of national and international acts, and local DJs. Johnny D’s style continued to develop under the influence of minimal electronic music, prompting him to try his hand at producing. His musical versatility makes it difficult to define his style, but one can safely locate his music and vinyl selection somewhere between deep-house, minimal, and techno. The outcome of this spectrum of styles is his own style which is arising itself on vinyl and affectionately arranged live acts. His first release Manipulation and Gualia came out on Oslo Rec., the label of his 2 good friends Federico Molinari and Nekes, in june 2007. His last release on Oslo Rec. went to number one in the Groove Charts and a lot of people and many DJs give their respect to this great release called "Orbitalife". Since then Johnny is very busy in playing every weekend in the best clubs and festivals around the globe.
  17. We proudly welcome a good friend of ours who is back stateside, co-founder of ROBOTS NY, a superstar and our favorite cracka. Always a good time when BILL throws down with us. Recently relocating to Berlin, He's back to headline another night for our Blk|Market Membership party. Mark it down on your calendars. *THURS OCT 23* Things are about to get rowdy THURSDAY OCTOBER 23RD BLK|MARKET MEMBERSHIP with Residents TAIMUR+FAHAD present: BILL PATRICK [Robots - New York] $15 GENERAL ADMISSION $10 ALL NIGHT IF YOU RSVP: leader@blkmarketmembership.com DOORS OPEN 10PM BAR13 13th ST. + University Entrance on University www.blkmarketmembership.com www.myspace.com/billpatrick www.halcyonline.com www.bar13.com Bill Patrick Bio [Robots - New York] New York has seen many DJ's come and go in it's time. The city that never sleeps has seen many clubs come and go as well. In a town where certainty is never guaranteed and change is around every corner, Bill Patrick has managed to maintain a successful career as one of New York's most exciting and respected DJ's. Coming from a musical background that included various styles from punk to hip hop, new wave to dub, Bill's love for dance music began in 1998 after attending his first New York rave. He frequented the legendary club Twilo and Vinyl almost every Friday until its closing in 2001. In a short time as a DJ, he has piled up an impressive resume with a residency at New York's famed club Arc (formerly Vinyl), played some of the best clubs throughout the world and has worked alongside many of the scene's most revered DJ's. He is also one of the co-founders of ROBOTS, a techno collaboration that hosted some of New York City's most successful club events. Since 2004, the group pulled together an impressive list of guests and headliners that included; Sven Vath, Francois K, Luciano, Ellen Allien, Radioactive Man, Tiefschwarz, Michael Mayer, Superpitcher, DJ Three, Mike Shannon, Run Stop Restore, Matthew Dear and the list goes on… and on. Additionally, Robots took their parties one step further with an Internet radio show broadcast live on eastvillageradio.com every Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. The aptly titled RobotRadio included live performances, interviews and promotional giveaways. On his own, Bill's passport has filled up nicely with international gigs in Mexico City, Costa Rica, Chile, Buenos Aires, and on to Spain, Italy, Norway, Romania and Germany. Over the past couple of years he has been heard on the mainfloor at Fabric, Cocoon club in Frankfurt, as well as numerous gigs in Ibiza, including the legendary "We Love..." party at Space, and regular appearances for Circo Loco at DC-10. Topping off 2003 and kick starting 2004 was a New Years Eve set at the world renowned techno club Tresor in Berlin. Now residing in Berlin, Bill is focusing on production and keeping busy touring Europe. Surrounded by the ceaseless inspiration of friends and artists that thrive in the city he looks forward to taking on the next level of his career.

LEFTROOM RECORDINGS JAMIE JONES [Crosstown Rebels - London] - DJ Jamie Jones Intro: Jamie Jones is best known for the deep minimal track 'Amazon'. Released on Dan Ghenacia's Freak n'Chic output at the start of the year, the 12" has since become the label's biggest-selling single. 'Amazon' proved to be especially popular with the Germans, popping up on Tiesfchwarz's 'Fabric 29', closing out the RA.005 podcast by Kiki, and Steve Bug's 'Bugnology 2' compilations. As a DJ, Londoners will recognise Jamie from his Sunday afterhours sessions at the T-Bar and his DJsCanDance parties where he plays what he describes as "a mixed bag of mainly deep house and techno", appealing to both the Crosstown Rebels mob and those who like their beats and bleeps served up on M_nus. These days Jamie is also a regular at Fabric, touted as "one to watch" by the club's booking manager. THREE [Hallucination LTD / CROSSTOWN REBELS - NY] - DJ Armed with a sound that borrows equally from vintage acid-house, soulful techno and modern dub, Three's taken it one step further year after year, from San Fran's legendary Wicked Crew party, to NYC's Twilo, to London's Fabric, and back again. Echoing his wide tastes as a DJ, his modest production output (Second-Hand Satellites, Three A.M., Montage Men) has captured a not-so-common cross section of dance floors from house to techno, and all points in between. Last year, the Hallucination Limited imprint was launched to turn his genre-bending passion for good music into a platform for other like-minded artists. From veterans like Terry Francis to new faces Soulrider and Reverse Commuter, the response has been nothing short of outstanding. With the label off and running, 2004 puts the focus back upon himself, both in the studio and where he's most at home - behind the decks. MATT TOLFREY [leftROOM - London] - DJ For the last few years, everything has been falling into place for Matt Tolfrey. He quickly stepped up from playing at local bars to holding down residencies at Stealth and The Bomb, two of the country’s most respected underground clubs. He’s been billed alongside the likes of Richie Hawtin, Damian Lazarus, Craig Richards, Ricardo Villalobos and Andy Weatherall to name just a (very) few. He’s played at some of the best clubs in the UK, including regular slots at Fabric, and worldwide he’s guested everywhere from Ibiza , to Berlin, to Australia. As well as all this, he’s running two of his own labels named Leftroom and Leftroom Limited (http://www.leftroom.com), and he has tracks signed to labels with co-producer Craig Sylvester. Recently Matt also has teamed up with Crosstown Rebels, by joining the new Rebel DJ Agency. So how did he come so far so quickly? The answer is simple. Matt is a workaholic with a seemingly tireless dedication to forging his own unique style. Drawing on everything from deep house and techno, through to stripped down bleeps and Germanic mayhem, he’s spawned his own hybrid strain of electronic funk. Anyone lucky enough to have already witnessed Matt in action will know that his particular brand of mutant-house has the power to win hearts and destroy minds on the dance floor. MARCASHKEN [Leftroom - London] - DJ Over the Years Marc has attempted to learn various instruments including the keyboard, trumpet and guitar, never quite bonding with any and them them up quickly. Over the years he has played a number of different styles of house music, finally settling with what is commonly known as minimal techo. Although Marc began as a DJ, its his production that gained recognition in recent years. With productions on Perc Trax, Fragile, Hochokai and Leftroom, arc has been remixed by the likes of Paulo Mojo, Tolfrey and Sylvester, Luka & Lazo and John Dahlback. Marc is also co running a London based club callled Lather_Rinse_Repeat with a record label planned in the near future.

Kraftwerk, Yello and Off were the artists who opened his ears for electronic dance music and subsequently acted as inspiration for his own creativity. In 1994 he made his first visit to the Omen in Frankfurt where in one evening he saw Sven Väth, DJ Dag and Frank Lorber and over the next years the inspiration he found that night helped him tune his own sound on the decks. In 2000 Markus and two DJ's friends founded the ‘Project 2000’ and at the same time, Markus became resident in the Frankfurt bar Helium. Appearances quickly followed in different locations as well as a notable residency at U60311 where he was left surprisingly free to indulge his own taste. However, his musical styles did develop and right now he is into the sounds of Perlon, raummusik and Tuning Spork and finds himself playing alongside DJ T, Tiefschwarz, Dominik Eulberg, Loco Dice, Tobi Neumann, Ewan Pearson, Martin Landsky, Dinky, Troy Pierce, Vera, Dorian Paic, Chris Tietjen and many more at clubs like at Monza, Frankfurt, Blu in Ibiza and many more across Europe… As we move into the latter half of 2008, Markus is being lauded as one of the most exciting talents to emerge this year. He has a bunch of acclaimed releases behind him on Cecille, Below and Oslo labels, all of which have caught the attention of Ricardo Villalobos, Onur Ozer, Radioslave, Luciano, Monika Kruse and Karotte. On Friday Aug 22nd, Markus Fix will be making his NYC debut

However the experience of this duo stretches back to the beginning of the dance music scene. This was only possible because of their work in major recording studio’s making tea for the famous and learning about engineering and producing pop records. In those days there were no home studios like there are today plus a very limited selection of synthesizers or electronic equipment to sequence with. They both used the time when nobody was working in the studio’s to start to experiment using the primitive technology that was available to them. In 1990 Dan followed through with a new vibe and became part of one of the most influential drum&bass artists known in the genres history ¨Intense¨. He played both live and behind the decks with the likes of LTJ Bukem, Fabio and Grooverider all over the globe. He was then responsible for hitting the mainstream after signing a big deal with Sony records, but still maintained the sound that was considered deep underground. In 1999 Igor met Dan on a flight to Spain and began a partnership that has now risen to a point of recognition worldwide. Their mixture of influences has given them a sound, which is easily recognizable and seems to be loved by the masses. Almost immediately the likes of Sander Kleinenburg and Anthony Pappa were including them on their massive selling mix CD´s and other mainstream DJ´s such as Laurent Garnier and Deep Dish were including many of their tracks in their summer sessions. After over twenty releases on their well-respected label 'Submission' Pig&Dan felt it was time to take a turn and go back their more electronic roots. They opened a new label ¨Sonic Society¨ which is now being hailed as one of the it labels in the club scene, plus has the likes of Sven Vath, Loco Dice and Mandy supporting the duo in a big way. Due to the support of the more tech side of the scene Pig&Dan have now released with Cocoon both on vinyl and CD and have been remixing for the likes of most respected Underworld and Oliver Koletzki to name a few. Also their work behind the decks has exploded in such a way that it seems that they are going to be one of the most popular choices for the summer of 2006. They are the only DJ´s that have been invited to play in Cocoon club after being part of the much acclaimed night ¨next generation¨ and have been booked to play around the globe from London to Buenos Aires. Both as artists and DJ´s Pig&Dan are set to put the smiley face back into the dance industry. They’re on mission to help us have our good night out, and take us back to the vibe that was only found in previous years. ¨Its time to make people in the club scene have fun again. We all love a dark tune, but there’s enough darkness out there so lets get together and create some good memories¨
