  1. They can only retire at 55 or earlier if they started their job at like 21. Unless they want to try and live on like 30k a year. You don't just get a "retirement package" when you hit the magic age. You're just allowed to retire. If you want any kind of real benefits it's based on how long you worked and how much was contributed to your pension. You have to be in most of those jobs for over 20 years to get any kind of real retirement.
  2. I blame the leadership of the union more than it's members. They are just doing what they are told. Look at these quotes from their leader: Taken from Channel 7 (www.7online.com) That's great. He could have at least lied and said he regrets that millions of people have to re-arrange their lives because of their decision to strike. Or at least showed a little sympathy for someone... Here he goes with the Mayor/Governor BS. Hey, I don't agree with either of them a lot of the time, but neither the Mayor or Governor had anything to do with this. They said repeatedly that this was a private matter between the MTA and the TWU and theirs to settle themselves. Toussaint is just trying the popular pass the buck to the politicians tactic, but has no leg to stand on. It's just sad that a union like the TWU is lead by an idiot like this. So full of bullshit... What agendas? What the hell is he talking about? Every time he is interviewed he talks like there is some kind of conspiracy by the mayor and governor to hurt the TWU, his issue is with the MTA. And to answer some of the above... Way back when people actually MADE SENSE on internet message boards, CAPS were used for emphasis, so I use caps when if I were speaking, I would emphasize a word.. And less often _underscores_ for bold to show emphasis since BBS systems back then didn't allow boldface. I know this is too well written for CP, so for those who need to make sure they are in the right place... <Insert Club> SUXX!!!111one <Insert DJ> SOld OuT/Is SooOO Commercial/Is Just Bam Bam Bam Long L1ve TWILO!~~ SF Forever!!!! Remember when house music was all Vinyl and underground?? Those were tha DAYZ YO!!! <insert about 25 smileys>
  3. I'll throw my 2 cents in just because I feel like venting. The TWU is so out of line they should all be made to have to go through what we are going through to get to work. There is a REASON why it is illegal for certain public service occupations to go on strike. If your job provides a neccessary function for the continued safety and public health of the city then you are not permitted to strike. That includes teachers, fire fighters, police, and TRANSIT WORKERS. My wife is a teacher, both of my parents are retired teachers, I have close friends in both the fire and police departments, and NONE of them went on strike when they were without a contract for YEARS! My wife is just starting to get residual payments for the 3 years she worked without a contract. I think TWU employees could do the same. How would they all have felt if they couldn't bring their children to school? Talk about RESPECT, how much do people respect teachers? Firefighters? Police Officers? How much respect do they hope to get when EVERYONE is against their strike including their own international parent union? I believe in a fair deal for everyone, I believe a solution can be found that will satisfy both parties. But to do this to the city, at this time of year, with the cold and the business impact is disgraceful. And to say that the mayor/governor is holding the city hostage is a joke. There wasn't a lockout, they went on strike. And the mayor/governor repeatedly said that they would not interfere with an internal matter between the union and the MTA when the negotiations were still going on. So way to pass the buck TWU. I mostly feel sorry for all my co-workers and our night staff who have to figure out how to get here to work so that we can stay open this weekend. One of our managers is actually sleeping here in the office right now so he can work tonight. I myself had to get up at 3am to drive here before the HOV went into effect. Just plain selfish and sickening...
  4. Settle down ya CP maniacs. That is a damn funny pic of Nestor though, I'll have to print it and post it over his computer. And yes, Alex is my second cousin twice removed on my great uncle's brother's aunt's side of the family. We're almost brothers! H8 on h8ers, this is a pretty funny thread and I'll treat it that way.
  5. Thorin, come see me next time you're here, you dork. I've been using Vonage for over a year and have no problems at all. You probably had some setup issues or you're downloading the pr0n way too much to make a phonecall. And of course, nothing brings a smile to my face more than teasing you on CP.
  6. I was like you LOL. In fact I worked so late Sat night my car got towed because I forgot to move it from in front of the office before 8pm. DOH on me. Drank my worries away last night though.
  7. There really need to be perma sticky threads for all the: "Do you remember SF, Twilo, Tunnel, (insert popular closed club name here)" Threads. It would make these forums much easier to read. While they're at it they can also make one for all the stereotype threads and give the fist pumping guido, asian army, JP Fanboy, Boris Haters etc a place to live.
  8. I can only comment on the second tunnel in crobar rumor... FALSE. Sorry.
  9. Sounds to me like you have some adware/spyware on your computer. That may be causing the weird banners for you. Try adaware and spybot search and destroy.
  10. Man...I have to respond to this one... It doesn't matter, fake, not fake. All you have to do is look at the scene for little while and you will come to realize that skills do not at all matter anymore. The only thing that matters is celebrity and numbers. Be a celebrity and you will get booked. <---Talk about stating the obvious...how is that a bad thing. People like celebrities. Its a fact of life. And numbers. Tell me, if you owned a club or bar, would you have entertainment there that didn't draw people? If you can get people to show up and you are playing polka music, the club owners will book you.(If you can get people to show up by playing polka music, you DESERVE to get booked...) That's all they and the promoters care about, numbers, heads showing up. (And you know this how? I know my bosses care about throwing as great a party as we can on any night we're open. And again, what business owner in their right mind, wouldn't care about people showing up. No people=no business) At this point promoters basically control the whole thing. The owners are basically lazy and don't want to, or don't know how to do the work of promotion. (Seriosuly, change promoters and club owners to "FBI and Government" and you sound like a UFO nut...big conspiracy.) They hand it over to the promoters who book by basically using the people that suck up to them or have some sort of celebrity status. (Promoters don't book. Promoters promote what is already booked.) Just look at all the porn stars and centerfolds that get booked at clubs. What does a porn star or centerfold have to do with music? So why do they get booked? For what? So people can go and see the porn star and say: "I saw a porn star in person" or " They're not all that" or "I got an autographed picture" <----WOW, umm...yes. Obviously if venues are doing this. then it is working. And Pornstars and celebrities have to do with ENTERTAINMENT.And the 1000s of people who show up to these events is pretty good proof that it is a good idea. It's like the old time freakshows. People want to and gawk at the freak. On most levels that is what the scene is about now.<---its also what the scene was about 10 20 and 30 years ago. Yeah, I know Twilo this and Sound Factory that....BS I was there for those days. It was about the buzz and being part of the "exclusive" crowd. SF and Twilo did it by being "Underground" Palladium Limelight Club USA did it by having the outlandish freaks and parties. It was never only about the music. And it will never be only about the music. It will always be about the party as a whole and music can play a lot or a little in that equation. Just forget the idea that the ability to mix and program a night of music means anything anymore. It hasn't mattered for a long time and I don't see it changing anytime soon.<---come on now really...It really amazes me how on a message board dedicated to nightclubs, one of the most liberal and free thinking types of entertainment out there...and sooo many people sound like ultraconservatives who crave the good ole days and hate anything different and spend their days bashing anything new. Or pine and wish for a return to some mythic ideal of what was once great...I find it sad. Anyway, sorry to semi-flame here, but seriously people...HAVE FUN. Do what you want and go where you want. We live in NYC there are 1000s of choices. Why do people insist on bitching about stuff when they do something else? Is being considered "Old School" on a message board that important? I dig this forum, and I dig the people here. Some really intelligent conversation takes place. But seriously, maybe some should learn to back off a little on the blind hating just for the sake of hating. I'm getting off this soapbox...Lova ya CP
  11. I'll post here what I posted in the other thread... As was mentioned above, tickets were $45.00 until June 16th and are $60.00 until the 25th. You only have to pay $70 the night of the event. Last year had the same price scheme and we sold out before the price even hit $70.00 and we had to ask people to either wait, or come back later since we were at capacity. And last year we didn't even have Tom Stephan with Victor. This party will be going on till 10am, it is a special event, and has a special price. And to anyone who has been to one of Victor's EVOLVE parties this year, expect this to be much much more insane. Victor goes all out for Pride. And as I have said before. I don't need to schill for my club. I'm the IT admin, not a promoter, I'll tell you how it is and basically that's it. Come and enjoy or go someplace else, that's what kicks ass about NY so many choices.
  12. Just so you all know. Last year was the EXACT same pricing scheme. And the place sold out. Pride is almost like NYE as far as how long the party goes, and how crazy it gets. So if you're inclined to, come on down for it. And BTW, tickets will only be 70.00 the day of the event. They were $45.00 before today and from today till the 25th they are 60.00 Hope that helps.
  13. I actually have more of a peeve when people stick a "The" in front of things more than when they add an "S" Number one being "Oh so you work at The Crobar?" .... Or when I was younger "Yeah we're gonna head out to The Palladium later, and there's this new place, I think it's The Sound Factory, we're gonna check it out..."
  14. The whole office just had a nice laugh from this. Especially since I have the calendar in front of me....
  15. Not even gonna edit my last post...way to be retarded on my part...I confused two totally different unrelated events. Sorry for any confusion. I'll leave my original post up as a reminder to myself how dopey I can be on a Monday... Yes Tiesto is JUNE 5th not JULY... Sorry CP
