  4. dammit. http://money.cnn.com/2005/03/04/news/economy/gas_prices/index.htm?cnn=yes Big gas price surge soon? Report says pump prices could shoot up by about 25 cents a gallon in coming days to new record. March 4, 2005: 8:11 AM EST NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Gasoline prices could rise by about quarter a gallon in the coming days to new record levels, according to a published report Friday. USA Today, quoting energy experts and analysts, reported that a gain of 24 to 28 cents a gallon is possible as stations scramble to keep up with recent increases in oil and wholesale gasoline prices. An increase of 24 cents a gallon would put the average retail price of a gallon of regular gas at about $2.16 a gallon, according to the Energy Information Agency, the Department of Energy unit that tracks prices. The EIA's survey put the average price at $1.928 in Monday's survey, up 2.3 cents from a week earlier. The EIA's earlier record of $2.02 a gallon for regular was hit in May of 2004. Oil prices hit $55.20 a barrel in trading Thursday, which was within 47 cents of record intra-day levels for crude oil. But prices retreated about $2 a barrel since that high. Gasoline futures set a record at $1.5450 a gallon. The paper reported that even higher prices could be ahead as increased warm weather driving pushes up demand. Tom Kloza, senior analyst at the Oil Price Information Service, told the paper that retail gasoline prices lag increases in wholesale prices since Christmas by about 25 to 28 cents a gallon. He says he believes the record prices won't come until the latter half of March. But Peter Beutel, president of energy tracking firm Cameron Hanover, said a spike of 24 cents a gallon could happen in the coming days. "It's going to be brutal, horrendous," he told the paper.

  10. weird! ---------------------------------- http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/hockey/nhl/03/03/bc.hkn.nhloffer.ap/index.html?cnn=yes TORONTO (AP) -- An investment firm and a sports advisory company reportedly made a joint proposal to buy all 30 NHL teams for as much as $3.5 billion. The two Boston companies were invited by NHL commissioner Gary Bettman to present the highly unusual offer, the Toronto Star and Globe and Mail reported Thursday. Bain Capital Partners LLC and Game Plan LLC made their pitch Tuesday in New York to NHL owners, whose season has been shut down by a lockout. Bain Capital spokesman Sam Hollander and Collin Vataha of Game Plan declined to immediately comment Thursday to The Associated Press. The NHL, which because of its ongoing player lockout recently became the first major North American pro sports league to cancel an entire season, has said its teams have lost a collective $500 million over the past two seasons. Before the work stoppage, the total value of the 30 NHL franchises was an estimated $4.9 billion, according to Forbes Magazine. The Detroit Red Wings topped the list at $266 million, with the Edmonton Oilers last at $86 million. The value of the arenas are part of the assessment. "The substance of the presentation and the reaction of the board" are "internal league matters, and ones on which we are not prepared to comment further," Bill Daly, the NHL's chief legal officer, said in a statement Thursday. Bain managing partner Steven Pagliuca, co-owner of the NBA's Boston Celtics, and Game Plan, which recently acted as an adviser on the sale of the Ottawa Senators, are betting that many NHL owners would welcome the chance to get out of the hockey business. But it's unclear how team owners, especially those in large markets such Toronto, Boston and New York, would react to the proposal. Maple Leafs officials declined comment, the newspaper said, as did a Game Plan spokesman. "I would imagine different clubs had different feelings," Daly told the Globe and Mail. He said the league was compelled to listen based on the significance of the offer. "When someone's offering over $3 billion, we felt we had an obligation to the board to have them, at least, hear it from the proposed purchaser," Daly added. The purchase would not depend on the NHL reaching agreement with the players on a collective bargaining deal, the newspaper said, and a sale would not affect the status of the NHL Players' Association as the bargaining agent for players under U.S. and Canadian labor laws. According to the newspaper, Bain and Game Plan said the sale would bolster the league's revenue because all the teams would work together to generate more local television, sponsorship and revenue instead of competing against one another. The consortium reportedly told the NHL owners it had arranged for a large Canadian-based financier to join its efforts.

  12. i saw the two of them on the jimmy kimmel show a couple of weeks ago. first they were interviewed by kimmel, "the game" was practically sucking 50 cent's dick, it was hilarious. he kept talking about how much 50 has done for him, and that he wouldn't be here without 50, blah blah blah. it went on for like 15 min, it got ridiculous. i'm glad he's changed his "perspective". oh shit, now 50 cent's gonna come for me

  16. They have poker joints in the city in Miami? Very cool...my game is getting a bit old here. well this is all pretty new. with the recent explosion of texas hold em on tv, it's become quite popular. when i was in college it amazed me how many underground casinos operated. my entire life i've had a strong opposition to gambling (for myself). all my friends played, but i'd say fuck it, i'm goin to chase girls. but once i learned texas hold em everything changed. there's luck, yeah, but there's so much more to it.

you make a very good point. i remember when i was under 21, i only tried to work my local joints (in tallahassee). miami wasn't MIAMI until i hit 21. and i have noticed quite a few of these inquiries. i don't think they're coming for the sole purpose of trying to get into clubs, some are probably coming with others that are over 21, or are coming with their families, etc.
