  1. http://gothamist.com/2008/04/17/2_am_closing_ti.php APRIL 17, 2008 2 a.m. Closing Time Becoming Norm for Manhattan Bars When Hog Pit co-owner Felisa Dell sent an email to Eater on April 7th confirming the closure of her Meatpacking District BBQ joint, she insinuated that “the mayor and the State Liquor Authority are now only issuing Liquor Licenses until 2 a.m. It's very sneaky, but in 5 years the 4 a.m. liquor license will be a thing of the past, without any community input.†Today the NY Sun backs Dell up, reporting that many Manhattan bar owners are finding it “nearly impossible to open new nightlife establishments that are permitted to serve alcohol until 4 a.m.†While the New York State Liquor Authority can’t arbitrarily impose a specific closing time before 4 a.m., Community Boards have been demanding bar owners agree to curfews before they recommend approval to the SLA. The Sun looked at the most recent records available from Community Board 3, which covers the East Village and the Lower East Side, and found that not a single liquor license recommendation was granted to a bar that would close after 3 a.m. on weekends and 2 a.m. on weekdays. And in Tribeca, Community Board 1 killed Matthew Piacentini’s plans to open a lounge in a commercial building on Hudson Street by telling him he’d have to close at midnight on weekdays and 1 a.m. on weekends. The early closing times are a big problem for bar owners; a recent survey found that 58% of their revenues are earned between those magical hours of 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. These are also the hours when some of us lose 58% of our dignity, so maybe it's all for the best? http://www2.nysun.com/article/74836 4 A.M. Last Calls Could Be Headed The Way of Smoky Bars By CHRISTOPHER FAHERTY Staff Reporter of the Sun April 17, 2008 City nightlife industry insiders fear that the days of 4 a.m. last calls are numbered. In most parts of Manhattan, bar and club owners say, it has become nearly impossible to open new nightlife establishments that are permitted to serve alcohol until 4 a.m. — the Prohibition-era curfew that is seen as a bedrock of New York City's party town identity. Community boards that now hold substantial clout with the New York State Liquor Authority are increasingly requesting that liquor licenses be tied to earlier closing times, often at or before 2 a.m., a number of advocates for the nightlife industry said. "It is a trend that has certainly increased in the last six months, and if it keeps increasing there are going to be serious problems for the nightlife industry and the city's economy," a lawyer for the New York Nightlife Association, Robert Bookman, said. An independent study conducted at the request of his association found that city nightlife establishments garner 58% of their revenues between the hours of 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., he said. Under state law, which says the closing time for bars in the city is 4 a.m., the liquor authority lacks the power to place stipulations on the operating hours of bars and clubs. However, if a bar owner agrees to limit its hours of operation with the local community board, the liquor authority will write it into the license. Community boards for years have provided the liquor authority with recommendations for liquor licenses, but only recently has their influence become a determining factor in designating them. "The new leadership that took over during the last few years of the Pataki administration has been dramatically more responsive to the community than any I've ever seen with many years of experience with the SLA, and I think that's a good thing," a state assemblyman who represents the Chelsea area of Manhattan, Richard Gottfried, said. A spokesman for the liquor authority, William Crowley, said the agency determines liquor licenses on a case-by-case basis and follows the letter of the law.

  3. One of the most successful djs to date. What does he have that many other trance djs don't, to become as successful? I wonder....

  10. 1)The crowd were feeding off of Junior's sounds. I always enjoy hanging out with a mix crowd, getting along together to the music. 2)When you see Hasidic Jews doing the pump your fist dance and having a good ass time;you know they are there for the music and it's turning them out. House music has no boundaries 2)Now don't take this wrong ladies, but the man you are hooking up with wants to finger you in the club (and I see this very, very often), can you find a spot that's more private so you can enjoy it more? I mean it was amusing to watch for us boys and girls in the clubs, but don't you want to get it on in private with your man, or perhaps they don't... 3) And welcome back Kevin Aviance, you know that Cunty track is off the hook and I haven't heard that version Junior played before. It had more of a tribal feel to it, perhaps the dub version.

  12. They will come to see your freakface donaldm, for sure. Trust!
  13. I wonder if Sean Combs / Sean John / P Diddy / Puffy Comps will show up for Eric's B-day bash at Pacha this weekend. P Diddy has attend several of Eric's parties before.
  14. Old news, but I am finally convinced the smaller clubs are getting the spotlight more than the bigger clubs. One example is DJ Tiesto; once he started doing smaller venues when he can easily fill out the biggest of the mega clubs in the city, you know the choice for a smaller club is better for a big time dj. Others that come to mind are Paul Van Dyk, Danny Tenaglia, Victor Calderone, and even Junior Vasquez; a dj that prefers not to cater to mainstream bridge & tunnel crowds to gain mass appeal plus exceed popularity like in his prime days, prefers the smaller venues also. Smaller clubs are winning the best club awards compared to the mega clubs here in the city and Miami, plus it's nothing but lounges for the future of dancing venues in the land of metropolis.
  15. Not sad at all since these CDs and sounds are and still is influential to the djs you just listed. Without Junior's influence there wouldn't have been the success or the presence of most of those djs. But of course a mad person like yourself donaldm, can't see anything but hate. And to give another HAHA..! even though you are so obsessed with hating Junior Vasquez, you are most likely the biggest fan of JV, the way you show so much dislike for JV and his fans. I always believe the stalker is by far the biggest fan, which is you donaldm. donaldm is the biggest Junior Vasquez fan of them all, ironic as it seems.
  16. Prince To Headline Second Night Of Coachella: http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1003787527 April 09, 2008, 1:55 PM ET Jonathan Cohen, N.Y. Prince will make a rare U.S. festival appearance at Coachella later this month. Organizers confirmed today that the artist will headline the Saturday (April 26) lineup, joining previously announced headliners Jack Johnson (April 25) and Roger Waters (April 27). The addition is reminiscent of 2006, when Madonna joined the Coachella bill just a few weeks before the show. But she performed just five songs in the dance tent, whereas Prince will play a full show on the main stage. This year's Coachella will also feature performances by Kraftwerk, Portishead, the Verve, Aphex Twin, My Morning Jacket, Spiritualized, the Breeders and Serj Tankian, among many others. "In this year of a lot of festivals, we think we’ve dug pretty deep," Coachella booker Paul Tollett tells Billboard.com. "We're in our ninth year, and this is a really great addition to the whole story. It's exciting to add another artist into the mix that hasn't played festivals." Prince, who has been a rumored Coachella headliner for several years, has just one other date on his upcoming schedule: a June 16 show at Dublin's Croke Park.

  21. What's up Silverbull, First Liquid is stalking me. That's obvious:) Now about the dj controlling the dress code topic, Example: I went to a Junior Vasquez party on a Saturday night at Pacha NYC, Junior and his camp stated on his message board that whoever comes to his party can dress as they are and not worry about any dress code issues from the club like you can't wear baggy pants, hats, sneakers, sweat pants, etc. He spoke to the management at the club to make sure everyone is welcome to come as they are; no dress code restrictions. Compared to going to a party this past Saturday night at Pacha and there were many dress code policies of not to wear at the club with many people turned away. Could the dj playing that night control the policy like JV did instead of allowing the club management to make restrictions? The DJ (JV) controlling the Dress Code in club... concise.....
