  1. Go HERE for more photos by AZIKIWE MOHAMMED and TAG YOURSELF and YOUR FRIENDS! Fader Magazine has been throwing wild parties in the American Museum of Natural History titled “One Step Beyond.” The last one featured Flying Lotus (an experimental music producer and DJ), and Kode9 (a London-based dubstep artis, DJ and owner of Hyperdub record label. Their party has been named the “Best Museum Party” by New York Magazine. Azikiwe got inside to see what all the hype was about. More story and photos below… New York, NY – The American Museum of Natural History has returned with a new season of the highly celebrated series, One Step Beyond, presented with The Fader Magazine. Tickets are $20, which includes cosmic visuals by Fuevoz (with VJs SeeJ and Benton-C), entry to the Museum’s breathtaking The Search for Life: *Are We Alone?Space Show, and a pass for one future Museum visit. 2. Go HERE for more photos of this event by SEANA CAVANAGH and TAG YOURSELF and YOUR FRIENDS! Guests included Rochelle Goldberg, Everett Cook, Reece Solomon, Nina Stuart, Megan Maguire Steele, Paul Biardi, Deborah Hughes, Brittany Berger, Julia Willinger, Stephen Star, Chad Thompson, and Elizabeth Morris.
  3. Go HERE for more photos by ALEJANDRO ARMAS and TAG YOURSELF and YOUR FRIENDS! Last week the “Post Modern Cabaret” party took over the Night Hotel on 45th street.* Hosted by Desperate Nostalgia Acts Isengart & Lady Rizo, this party is a weekly affair that includes live music and performers of all types.* This week, their special guest was neo-Soprano, Nicole Renaud. More photos below…
  4. Back in March we ran a piece on actor/clubber Mickey Rourke and how he hooked up a group of his NYC nightlife buddies with parts in The Wrestler.* These guys of course are doormen at select Rourke haunts in the city (namely 1 Oak and Cipriani Sundays), and happen to also be budding actors (Though Wass Stevens has definitely gained a lot of traction over the years pre-Wrestler). More below… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=og3tN7P6oKI In any event, it recently came to our attention that Rourke even hooks up his nightlife friends(promoters) who aren’t actors.* What a nice guy to give back to those who have given him so much!* Enter into evidence his acceptance speech at the 2009 Spirit Award’s.* This Rourkesian speech is replete with profanities, unexpected twists and turns, a shout out to Eric Roberts (someone whose career has not been resuscitated, but M. Rourke thinks should be), and aptly displays his loose-cannon nature.* Probably a good case study in how not to set yourself up for an Oscar win. But alas, M. Rourke in all of his glory. Nevertheless, the most curious fact about this speech is the prescene of Unik right behind Aronofsky.* If you go to 5:13 of the video, its probably the most clear shot, however, he is present throughout.* Unik, was a partner in the now defunct nightclub PM in Meat Packing (the space will reopen as Griffin shortly).* He also heads up the Sunday night party at Cipriani Downtown, and has been a stalwart model/celeb wrangler for years.* No doubt Unik has set up Rourke for years (even when his career was floundering), and it looks like Mickey returned the favor.
  5. Nikki Beach in Midtown has been known to throw some raunchy theme parties in order to drive traffic to their awkwardly located midtown location.* But swinger parties?* Yes you heard me right. Nikki Beach has not only started throwing them, they are promoting them all over the web.* Their “Sexxy Mofo Party” advertised on TwtVite and Facebook wants to gather up all of the NYC couples and single women that are curious about “Swinging” together. (No single men allowed).* Read the outrageous Facebook Invite below…
  6. [Photos by Nicky Digital] This Friday, the Girls and Boys of Webster Hall brought some extra craziness to the place for Good Friday. Featuring Crookers, Congorock, Annie Mac, Gavin Royce, Kids With Snakes, Alex English and more, we recognized more than one familiar face in the crowd. Brady, is there ever a party you’re not in the middle of? Srsly. More photos below…
  7. [Jason Strauss, Paris Hilton, Noah Tepperberg] Did you miss the lecture that Harvard kids sat in on last week with Strategic Group founders Jason and Noah? Are you curious to see what it’s like to party around Jason Strauss himself?* Wait no longer. The man himself will be tearing it up at Marquee tonight at his very own birthday party. The action starts at 10pm. Expect to see friends like partner Noah Tepperburg and Rich Thomas in attendance.* As for getting in? You’re going to have to work that out on your own with Wass.
  8. Go HERE for more photos by NICK MCGLYNN and TAG YOURSELF and YOUR FRIENDS! Last night, BlackBook Magazine hosted a party for their superstar writer Steve Lewis at Greenhouse. It was his One Year Anniversary party of being with the Magazine (he switched over from Joonbug), and we can’t believe it’s already been a year! Spent of course reading his often hilarious posts on NYC nightlife, with a spin only Steve could provide. Paul Sevigny, Jesse Marco and Matt & Maia spun, with a live music presentation by LMFAO and an open bar by Svedka.* Steve had girls hanging on him all night per usual, however what we really want to know is if either of these young ladies is the winner of his serial dating spree? Steve? More photos below….
  9. From our tip box: Holy Moly! Just when we thought it’d be YEARS before we’d see another club opening up in this recession, we finally get the full story about PM’s resurrection in Meatpacking (50 Gansevort), a rumor we’ve been hearing for weeks. It’s happening.* And here’s what we know: Name: Set to be called “Griffin” Team: Owners Adam Hock (on PM’s lease and also of Hawaiin Tropic Zone Fame) and Chris Reda (owner of Room Service and Cheetah). VIP of Operations: Rachel Uchitel (Pink Elephant, Dune) Pavan Parnasani- somehow involved (he’s also working with 1Oak guys and Pink) With the Saturday brunches breathing life back into the Meatpacking District, it will be interesting to see what Griffin can do to the post 7pm life down in the cobblestone shitshow.
  10. Go HERE for more photos by STEVEN EKEROVICH and TAG YOURSELF and YOUR FRIENDS! The 14th Annual Gen Art Film Festival has taken over our city this week.* Steven caught up at not one, but two official after parties.* There was the party at Greenhouse last night for the feature film “Picture Me” and the party at the Hudson Terrace on Friday night for the feature “Peter and Vandy.” The festival ends tonight with a party at BLVD and the feature “Finding Bliss.” Check out the latest two parties below: More photos below…
  11. NYU’s local newspaper recently uncovered the real reason why students dress up in hipster clothing and go to LIT to party: They want to be on The Cobrasnake of course! The article is fascinating, people standing around for hours waiting for photographer Mark Hunter to notice them. Pretending to smoke, crying in bathrooms, you name it… “I mean, I got this new V-neck at Beacon’s Closet and I wanted to show it off,†said Marissa Johnson, a sophomore in Gallatin. When asked why she was lounging outside smoking a cigarette instead of showing off her new shirt inside, she replied, “I know Mark [Hunter, aka The Cobrasnake] will need to come out for some fresh air at some point, and I just want to look ready.†Later, one girl—who wished to remain anonymous—was spotted crying by the bathrooms. “She didn’t get photographed,†her friend whispered in this reporter’s ear. “Last time she came so close—you can see her arm in this picture,†she explained, whipping out her iPhone for proof.
  12. [Kerry Cassidy, Izzy Gold, Samantha Silverman. Photos by MICHAEL PLUNKETT for PMc] Tuesday night Izzy Gold friends and fans celebrated April Fool’s Day with Izzy Gold’s Chris Young, to celebrate the release of Baya Voce’s new album, which he produced. Guests arrived at Ella’s and were treated to complimentary Star Vodka cocktails sponsored by Andy Hilfiger Entertainment, Fame Is Television, and The Immortals. On hand were Liam McMullan, Brad Leinhardt, Briana Swanson, Chris Brady, Sam Talbot, Alexander Shoong, Allison Petit, Stuart Sher, Chet Cannon, Scott Herman, Victor Medina-San Andres, Dina & Damian Abrams, Kevin Dowd, the Indiggo Girls, Elana Jaroff, and Sadiq Busby. As usual, Izzy Gold hosted an incredibly fun event, and it was a wonderful way to spend April Fool’s (no pun intended). Nayab Ahmed, R.J. Jean, Gina Sachi, Cristin Chanel Ariel Moses, Izzy Gold, Briana Swanson, Victor Medina-San Andres
  13. [Photos by the Blacklist] It’s been awhile since we’ve checked in on midtown bar/lounge with the mechanical bull, Johnny Utah’s. We decided to check in on the Monday night bull riding party that they throw. So, we’ll let Johnny’s ride us into the weekend! Giddy up! [Johnny Utah's Brings Out The Cowgirl In Everyone]
  14. Go HERE for more photos by WILLIAM WERBER and TAG YOURSELF and YOUR FRIENDS! We haven’t been to the Hotel on Rivington in a long time, and decided it was time to check in on the place this weekend.* This Saturday, Evan Monster and The Happy Meal Gang were hosting “The Penthouse” party with DJ Spencer Project, Japanster, Misty Rabbit and special guests like Casey Spooner and Warren Fisher (Fisherspooner), Adam Dugas ( Citizens Brigade), Cindy Green (Libertine), Sophia Lamar, and Mike Furey(Dangerous Muse) among others.* All three levels were open including the rooftop terrace where the hot tub was steaming. More photos below…
  15. [Photos by The Cobrasnake] Go HERE to view Nicky Digital’s photos from this party, all photos in this post via The Cobrasnake. Friday night saw a collaboration of worlds at Webster Hall.* The Cobrasnake (the west coast party photographer) was in town to host his Star Trek Dance Party with the Girls & Boys of Webster Hall, and therefore share the space with regular NYC nightlife party photographer Nicky Digital. There were DJ sets by Designer Drugs and Friendly Fires as well as a score of other hosts. [Star Trek Party in L.A.] More photos below…
  16. Go HERE for more photos of this event by J.T. WHITE and TAG YOURSELF and YOUR FRIENDS! In this dog eat dog climate, only the strong promoters survive. And, in order to do that, it is imperative to carve out a niche, and own it. Take Jordan Harris’ Bloc Group who has been aiming to own Wednesday nights in the city.* He recently started help host the Wednesday night party at Bijoux, aptly named Candyland. He’s following in the footsteps of Dual Groupe’s Koch Brothers (Saturday Brunch niche), The Strategic Group (Marquee/Tao fame), and Pink Elephant’s Rocco Ancarola among others. The bottom line is, if you’re a promoter and you haven’t cornered a sliver of the market, but rather have an unfocused macro approach you are most likely in some murky waters. More photos below…
  17. The EMM Group’s Chandelier Room is doing hosting a soft opening in Hoboken’s W Hotel tonight and has many residents excited. “As we expand into the hotel-lounge business I am truly excited about being able to bring a sophisticated after work environment to Hoboken,†said Eugene Remm, co-founder of EMM Group. “The Chandelier Room is a fitting counterpart to the W Hotel brand and as such will set our own standards for great energy, great music and great service.†We will have our guests covering the opening tonight so stay tuned Monday for our full report!
  18. I am seriously giddy over the new albums up on Pink Elephant’s site (there are 6!)* There is so much necessary commentary that I have a feeling we are going to have to do this in installment posts.* First, we have scantily clad french maids walking around; next, wannabe Gossip Girls (no doubt straight from dinner at Park Avenue Winter); third, the Brits were in town!?; and finally, Mr. Pink Elephant getting busy with the ladies.* I can’t handle all of the commotion! And yet who can blame them? Someone’s gotta keep up with these guys…. More photos below…. “I’m so glad I wore my matching shirt and tie combo for the big night!” Grope away, Mr. Pink Elephant! “Are my lips too small?”
  19. Go HERE for more photos by AZIKIWE MOHAMMED and TAG YOURSELF and YOUR FRIENDS! It’s been quite some time since we’ve heard from the folks over at Country Club. On Saturday, we sent Azikiwe over to check out the weekly party dubbed “Hedge Fund Saturdays” and found that ex hedge funders and non-financial guests alike could dance the night away with the “2 bottles of Grey Goose for $550 special” they promote.* There was even a bachelorette party complete with plastic penis straws (of course)! More photos below….
  20. [All photos by Nicky Digital] TRASH! DJ’s Alex Malfunction and DJ Jess stirred the the party kids into a frenzy Friday night at The Studio in New York City’s Webster Hall inviting “Post punk rockers and new wave nymphs” to party the night away. Luckily, Nicky Digital was in attendance to capture all of the Trash loving party-goers.
  21. Today our favorite twins, Derek and Daniel Koch that are taking over NYC Nightlife are celebrating their 27th Birthday with a 12 hour party! We are already 3 hours deep in the action.* We will be live blogging the event at #whyamidrunkinthemiddleofthedayagain, if we can manage to get coherent words tweeted.* There will be 9, count em 9 DJs! Including: Serebe Kironde, Nick Cohen, Marco Peruzzi, Olivier Berger, Jean Michel, Disiple, Josh Link, Francesco Civetta, and Chris Liggio. There’s even a website for the event.* The party plans on moving from 55 Gansevoort to Bijoux at some point tonight, if anyone is still standing… - - - -
  22. [Guests rush to get photos taken with Zelda, a NYC nightlife legend] Go HERE for more photos by GINA SACHI CODY and EVA LUCIEN and TAG YOURSELF and YOUR FRIENDS! Last Saturday, Nur Khan hosted a live acoustic set at Rose Bar with Evan Dando and Gibby Haynes.* Sure there were rockstars, models, and Clive Owen present, but the real star of the night was Zelda Kaplan.* Rose Bar is one of our favorite places in this town, they have managed to maintain a sophisticated vibe and solid crowd even in these difficult times.* And the live acoustic sets that Nur has been introducing are just icing on the cake…. More photos below….
  23. [Photos by Nicky Digital] You know you’re at the right party if you see Liam McMullan there (see first thumb below).* And, in between is own St. Patty’s day celebration and his father’s (at Greenhouse) he somehow managed to find time to visit Happy Endings Six Six Sick & Disco Down party on Tuesday where he had a chance to catch up with Nicky Digital.* This kid is everywhere. More photos below….
  24. [Doormen Maurizio Ferrigno, Armin Amiri, and Wass Stevens all star in The Wrestler] We can’t help but find Mickey Rourke lovable.* Maybe its because he was such a misfit in the past, or because he still loves to rip it up on the town at 1 Oak and Cipriani Sundays, or perhaps it’s that he has risen from the ashes like a Phoenix.* Or maybe it’s because he hooked up his nightlife friends (and NYC resident doormen) with parts in The Wrestler.* This isn’t to say these guys wouldn’t have made it on their talent, but it sure doesn’t hurt to get a good referral from Mickey (and he has certainly logged in his time with these guys over the years!) A quick recap on the doormen, the clubs they work at, and the parts they played: Wass Stevens Club: Marquee Part: “Nick Volpe” - Wass Stevens is the manager who gives instructions to the wrestlers/does the cattle call in the first match we see in the movie. [IMDB] Background: Definitely the highest profile actor of the bunch, Wass recently was the main character in the national Sprint/Nextel commercials where he calls out “Callahan?” multiple times (hard to miss this one).* He also plays Nicholas Cage’s brother in Twin Towers, and is no stranger to fight managers, being an amateur boxer in his former life. Maurizio Ferrigno Club: Upstairs @ Cipriani Downtown Part: “Spotter” -* Spots Mickey in the weight room [IMDB] Background: Maurizio is no doubt the biggest physical specimen of the group.* Hailing from Italy, he plays the henchman role quite well, recently being featured as part of a lineup in the Law & Order commercials this past fall of 2008.* And he is of course no stranger to “spotting” being quite the bodybuilder. Armin Amiri Club: Former doorman at Bungalow 8 and now-defunct Socialista Part: “Dr. Moayedizadeh” - Armin is the Dr. who brings Mickey the bad news that his heart can’t handle the wrestling anymore.* We don’t think that Armin has much of a medical or academic background, so this probably speaks volumes about his acting abilities.* Speaking of bad news, his father apparently was arrested and held in Iran for a short while because of suspicion of helping Armin flee the country 20 years ago… [IMDB] Background: Armin use to be Amy Sacco’s party whip at Bungalow 8, who along with Disco made sure that the “no camera” policy was enforced and that a bevy of celebs and the “right” clientele filled the uber-chic boîte.* He left Bungalow in 2007 to* push his neo-socialism agenda and start his very own place, the late Socialista.* Alas, socialism proved (once again) to be unsustainable; we will be on the look out for his next “aha!” moment. [Mickey Rourke with Sofia Vassalo post Oscar weekend]
  25. [Photos via Pink Elephant] Hey Hey! It’s Thursday! And, the day is already off to a splendid start.* New photos from one of our favorite clubs on 27th street, Pink Elephant. I’m obsessed with the guy above.* This is totally his first time at Pink out.* He is rocking the Euro glasses and jean jacket.* Wonder where he hails from.* Anywho, take a look at some of this week’s favorite Pink photos. More photos below…(the theme seemed to be make-out award night):
