  1. Straight from our tip line, we have the exclusive on some HUGE NEWS: Marquee is transferring it’s license from it’s 27th street outpost.* Marquee, the start of Strategic Group’s vast empire, has defined odds by not only helping create a neighborhood, but by sticking around for over 5 years!* (That’s like 95 years in club land!) They apparently plan on transferring the liquor license to the old earth space, the space that Noah Tepperberg was planning on turning into some kind of lounge. This takes care of the problem of him trying to get a cabaret license (they can just transfer the 27th street one over).** Still, it’s a sad day in club land. Everyone meet us at Marquee tonight for one last Friday night of debauchery! More...
  2. [Photos via Pink Elephant] Last night was “guys night out” from the looks of it at Pink Elephant.* Because when you’re spending a week’s wages on a table, you deserve to get good use out of it, am I right?* Carry us into the weekend boys…. More photos below: More...

  4. Back in the beginning of OCTOBER (!) Grub Street ran a post anointing Chloe as the new Beatrice Inn, “borrowing” from our piece titled “Where the Cool Kids are” days before.* We revisited the issue on January 9th when we sent a photographer into the “Ivy at Chloe” party in a post titled: “Is This REALLY The New Beatrice Inn?“* Which is why, we thought it was pretty funny when today, on DBTH, Scott put up a post titled “Battle Royale: Chloe vs. Beatrice” defending all things Bea.* (I saw him there last Friday night on the front couch and, we hear, this is one of the ONLY places he goes these days).* The first commenter asks Scott: Why are you so obsessed with posting about this place?”* Our verdict? We agree with the commenter.* Beatrice Inn had a great run, but I went last Friday for a bit, (Scott either didn’t see me or pretended not to) and was disappointed.* If the tough door is what they pride themselves on (as DBTH claims), it seemed to be no problem for our group of 5!* Not to mention the numerous times we’ve actually SENT photographers into Bea to cover events, or even a Rory Guinness video shoot! The place was pretty empty, though I did appreciate the no-smoking, a policy they have just recently started taking seriously. p.s. The next time we see or hear of Scott at Bea we seriously hope it’s back on the dance floor for a change…has he no moves??? 5. [Photos via Pink] When he’s not boozing around the office during the day, he’s macking on the girls at night!* Yep, you guessed it, Mr. Pink Elephant, after putting in a long day at the office last Friday, made another semi-rare appearance at his nightclub.* The effect was obvious. He certainly got his guests feeling more exclusive and ready to party than ever! More photos of Mr. Pink Elephant in action below: More...

  7. Go HERE for more photos from this event and TAG YOURSELF and YOUR FRIENDS! Our rising photographer, JT WHITE is the master of checking out what’s going on in NYC Nightlife.* This weekend, he checked out “Mr. Saturday’s” at Santos Party House on Lafayette street.* This Saturday, Josh Wood will be presenting the first “BOOTLEG” party of ‘09 at Santos.* “A no-holds barred dance event that will heat up the coldest NY Night. DJ Junior Vasquez will be up to his usual shenanigans!” More photos from last Saturday below: More...
  8. [David X Prutting and Teddy Van Buren dancing away their Saturday] Go HERE for more photos by STEVEN EKEROVICH and TAG YOURSELF and YOUR FRIENDS! It looks (and sounds) like we all missed out BIG TIME this weekend at Merkato 55.* From the photos, I can see that both David X Prutting and Teddy Van Buren left the ladies at home to have some quality “guy time” this Saturday.* I asked Steven how the day went and he replied:* More story and photos below: “Real Estate may be dropping all around town but not on Saturday in the Meat District.* It was definitely trading at a premium in Merkato - 55. While DJ Serebe Kironde raised the energy to one tick below nuclear* the seasons largest turnout vied for every banquette, chair, and table* top in the house.* If table dancing makes it in the next Olympics Team Merkato will certainly bring home the Gold !” More...
  9. [The Barack Obama mural at 1 Oak that is now hanging above the previous bull canvas] The Obama craze has seeped into all aspects of our life including music, art, and now nightlife.* Perhaps the most shocking transformation came about via street artist Shepard Fairey’s portrait of Obama, that became the campaign’s iconic symbol.* His portrait was recently hung last Tuesday in the Smithsonian, signaling the widening acceptance of the street art genre and artists such as Banksy. On a more local level, 1 Oak has hung a truly eye-catching street art-esque mural of our 44th President.* While not a museum, its placement shows the hip trend of Obama and how he has really struck a chord with the youth.* Can you think of any other modern day president that would have gotten a mural in a nightclub? In addition, the 1 oak DJ’s have added the following Obama songs to their playlists… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JLuWZed8rs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6G6rlhBsWNM More...
  10. [Photos by Nicky Digital] What do you get when you mix some bohemian girls and boys and a whole lot of alcohol?* Insanity. Webster Hall plays host to a weekly “Girls & Boys” party every Wednesday night, and things tend to get a little crazy.* Thankfully, Nicky Digital is usually there to capture the hipsters on film.* Here are some of our favorites from last week’s party with the debut of the Valerie Collective featuring College, Anoraak, Russ Chimes, Lovelock, Dave P, JDH and more! 11. [Who needs Julia?* Jakob Lodwick let's loose, Charles Forman is excited] Go HERE for more photos of this event by NICK MCGLYNN and TAG YOURSELF and YOUR FRIENDS! ROFLThing, the conference devoted to discussing the cultural effect of internet memes, came to town yesterday. After a long, hard day of discussing the origins of the Chuck Norris Fact Generator and Twittering cats, internet celebrities and tech media luminaries alike descended upon Egyptian-themed Moomia Lounge to dance the night away. In attendance were a veritable who’s who of the online media world, including Sarah Austin (Pop 17), Alexis Ohanian (co-founder, Reddit) and “Obama Girl” Amber Lee Ettinger. More story and photos below: Mixing it up on the dance floor to the sounds of Serious Bu$iness were many regulars of the New York tech media party scene, including Tumblr founder David Karp, I’m In Like With You founder Charles Forman, and and CNet writer Caroline McCarthy. College Humor founder Jakob Lodwick’s enthusiastic shirtless dancing amused many of the partygoers, causing Rex Sorgatz to joke, “If Lodwick took his shirt off, I’m taking my pants off.” Other guests like Jessica Amason (Urlesque), Richard Blakeley (Gawker), Rachel Sklar (The Daily Beast), and Glynnis MacNicol (Fishbowl NY) relaxed near Moomia’s large sarcophagus with some pineapple hookah and lively conversation. Whether they were discussing the future of online video over cocktails or shaking it disco-style, this Afterparty For The Internets showed everyone a good time. More...
  12. Look who’s been drinking on the job again!* It’s Mr. Pink Elephant and it’s a wonder he gets anything accomplished at all!* When he’s not macking on the girls at night, he seems to be boozing it up at the office during the day! We say live and let live, but Stanley’s starting to walk around the office all “Mr. Pink gets to do this,” and “Mr, Pink does that.”* He’s really not setting a great influence here. More photos of the elephant “at work”after the jump… More...
  13. 2009 has been off to a slow start.* But, with inaugural parties finally ending, and people still ready to celebrate CHANGE, there are new treats in NYC nightlife land…Today, a couple of tips came in about an impromptu concert that several musician/patron’s of Rose Bar partook in.* Specifically, we heard that our favorite Perry Farrell of Jane’s Addiction started rocking out with Adam Green, and others. Also, remember it was the Koch Brother’s first night taking over the reigns at 1Oak.* We had some people stop by to check out the scene that was: “Shoulder to shoulder deep.* The night was a definite success.* Oh and the bull had an ‘Obama’ hat on top of his head!” [Perry Farrell, The Reason Jane's Addiction Is Always In Style] [Koch Brothers Take On 1Oak] More...
  14. [Photos by John Munson and STEVEN EKEROVICH] Go HERE for more photos by STEVEN EKEROVICH and TAG YOURSELF and YOUR FRIENDS Last Saturday, I took a group of 8 girls, friends visiting friends of mine from Nebraska and Syracuse, to experience the party at Merkato 55. (See first photo below).* It’s so much fun to see people’s reaction to something that they are not expecting, and the twins were the perfect hosts.* We stayed from 2pm-7pm (yes even me!), and were the first table up and dancing upstairs.* The first thing we noticed was the unbelievable amount of beautiful women, and how much they outnumbered the men. It was like an estrogen festival….If I was a single guy I would be here every Saturday!* Downstairs, Nick Bristols was celebrating his 40th birthday with 40 of his close friends.* It was quite the weekend, we look forward to seeing the video footage from the day! More photos below: Nick Bristols More...
  15. Two weeks ago, on hearing the devastating news that contributor Scott Buccheit had broken up with Naeem Delbridge (The Eldridge’s doorman), we started to see a somewhat silver lining in the whole mess.* Scott has assured me that his new mainstay will be his old mainstay; Cipriani’s! Oh how much we love Cipriani’s. Sure, they’ve had their share of troubles in the past, but with the unveiling of their latest weapon (18 year old son of Giuseppe Cipriani), Maggio Cipriani, we are ready for Cipriani’s to take back the limelight, at least for the Soho-set. More from Maggio below: [Cipriani's Is Still The Best Game In Town] [Photos via CityFile] More...
  16. [All photos via ] Angels and Kings holds its Trainwreck party every Tuesday and Nicky Digital sometimes manages to capture the fun. These photos were taken on Tuesday night, and the hipsters looked like they were more than excited about Obama taking his throne. We have also heard word that the Real World Brooklyn cast ends up at this East Village (uh, Manhattan, MTV) hipster-esque staple. So it makes sense that one of the Trainwreck DJs is none other than Miss Baya Voce, a Real World resident. We wonder how*this Salt Lake City girl fits in as a DJ in such a crazy atmosphere… More Photos Below: More...
  17. Note to would-be drum players:* You suck.* Seriously, I know how tempting it can be to start letting loose over the bongo drums to get the party started, but the fact is, this guy has been doing this every night for the passed year.* There is nothing new or original you can bring to the scene.* Also, more than 2 hands NEVER works.* Please spare the rest of us and let the professionals do their jobs! More photos from Pink Elephant for your enjoyment below: More...
  18. This Thursday night 1 Oak will begin hosting House music nights, brought to you by the Koch brothers who run the Saturday Brunch party at Merkato 55.* An interesting development for the club who, up until now, has been largely popular for the hip-hop crowd.* We are excited to check in on the party and see how it plays out for both the Daniel and Derek, as well as the 1Oak family. 19. [Merkato 55] We have a big week ahead of us.* As the world’s eyes are all looking towards Washington, and awaiting Mr. Obama as he takes his throne, we will take one more look back on the parties that ensued under Bush. We started out the week with a look back on the Golden Globes parties. Specifically, which after party did you want to see and be seen at? Webster Hall was all over the internet this week, but it wasn’t for it’s new walls, designed by Mr. Steve Lewis.* A group of guests have been claiming the club is racist. And they’ve taken to facebooking their disgust. Is Webster Hall really racist? Merkato 55 Brunches are still the hot spot to go and keep warm on snowy Saturday afternoon. Socialite Amanda Hearst held her birthday party at Norwood, Scott let us in on the deets. [Webster Hall] We headed over to Ella’s to spy on the real life Gossip Girl’s in action on the LES. Temperatures may be dropping outside but we still have memories of nightland out east from the summer on our minds.* We took a look back on tanner times.* Then we took a look at their flagship on 27th street to see how it’s been faring in 2009. Micah Jesse was reborn a star!* His site relaunch party drew quite the crowd. Tyra Banks helped the Oxygen Network launch a party for the new season of America’s Next Top Model Obsessed. There’s a brand new party in town.* Malik So Chic is trying to bring back Bungalow 8 with it’s Wednesday night party. Praise Jesus. DJ Nick Cohen has returned from Australia. Sundance is well under way, The Eldridge has followed the other scores of New Yorkers to Park City. Finally, New York clubs are using Martin Luther King day as a chance to PARTY! More...
  20. This Monday marks the celebration of the birthday of the late, great Martin Luther King and New York City’s clubs are not going to miss out on the opportunity to throw a party make wads of cash.* This year, people seem especially in the mood to celebrate great leaders that have changed our country.* It’s even more fitting that our nation’s first black president will be signed into office the very next day!* Above, Cain, Pop Lounge and Pink Elephant all have big “Dreams” for Sunday night, below, 4 more invitations: Also, as always check out our calendar for other events this weekend and add your own! 21. [The Birthday Boy in his full on glory] Go HERE for more photos from this event by OMAR FLORES and TAG YOURSELF and YOUR FRIENDS! Last night, one of our most insidious Facebook event promoter, Zev Norotsky held his own birthday celebration at his #1 hotspot, Pink Elephant. Dress in a little plaid ensemble compete with bowtie, he made for a very festive looking birthday boy.* Zev started his night off with an early dinner party at POP Burger before heading over to Da Club.* DJ Suss One was his pick for tunes, and from there he had his pick of the ladies.’ More photos below: More...
  22. Looking for something to do tonight?* Head over to Mercury Lounge for “The London Souls” and “Blood Street” both.* Remember the good old days when these guys used to tear it up at Bellas?* Well they are long gone. 23. Go HERE for more photos from Seana Cavanagh and TAG YOURSELF and YOUR FRIENDS! We haven’t been to Bungalow 8 since our holiday party, and decided it was time to check in on the old standby.* So, Seana and her beau braved the weather and made it out to “Malik So Chic’s” Wednesday night party that is slowly gaining steam at Bungalow 8.* And guess what? Queen Amy Sacco herself stopped in late night to check up on things.* She was apparently “super nice.”* Next Wednesday, Jessica Stam is promised to make an apperance at the party. More photos below: More...
  24. [Photos via Pink Elephant] In case you were wondering, Pink Elephant is alive and well in ‘09.* That’s the best thing about Pink, it’s always there.** It would be a very rare night that I would find myself on 27th street, but I for some reason like knowing that it’s available for me, should the longing to get debaucherously drunk in a sweaty Manhattan nightclub where I will have a hassle getting my whole group into and where we will undoubtedly make fools of ourselves and spend way too much money, should happen to sneak it’s way into my head.* Thank god for Pink, Cain, and Marquee.* Added bonus: the girls got new costumes, aka cut costs by wearing nothing and are now just PAINTING their bodies.* Sweet! More photos below: More...
  25. [Photo by Alan Barry Photography] Go HERE for more photos from this event by ALAN BARRY and HERE for photos by JOHN CARTA and TAG YOURSELF and YOUR FRIENDS! Look out! A star was re born last night!* Micah “Eyebrows” Jesse threw a grand old bash reminiscent of our pre-recession cheesy party days. The only thing missing were the decked out gift bags at the end of the night.* There was the photo op board of sponsors which Micah apparently spent half of the night at, and tons of characters to help celebrate the rebirth of micahjesse.com. The “attire” on the invitation read “AMAZINGNESS” and his guests were incredibly keen on what that meant.* They glittered and glamoured around the Chelsea Hotel’s Star Lounge while DJ Cassidy entertained them and Star Vodka kept them lubed up. More story and photos below: Guests included Danity Kane, Zara Zimmerman, Cassidy Podell, Kimberly Leemans, Deric milkchocolate Mickens, Rodney O’neal Mcknight, Linda Michelle, Alli Bishop, Giada Hansen, Logan Slaughter, Amanda L.
