The Downfall Of Nyc Clubbing....

Recommended Posts

aight peeps i hate to admit but clubbing in nyc has become terrible....with the close of twilo, the tunnel and limelight clubbing for the music has become horrible....yes i admit when i knew shit about music and when i liked to pop bombs exit was the place to be...but now that im an educated music lover exit is the worst place to be.....

i like vinyl but its to small for my tastes and like ive said earlier i cant even have a drink in there if i wanted....i like clubbing on a large scale and seeing the dancefloor filled to capicity is what its all about.....now roxy is supposed to get the phazon but who the hell knows in this indusrty...if they do i hope they really put that space to use and start bringing in the likings of dj's like carl cox, marco v, pvd just to name a few......ive been clubbing for about 4 years now and this is by far the worst it has ever been,....

there are no more choices and every club sounds the same with the same music being playedd.....waaaaaack if you ask me....

sorry but this is how i feel.....

I really have to disagree with you there, Mike. To tell you the truth, I consistently have dilemmas concerning which parties to go to and which THREE parties of the other parties on the same nights I gotta miss...

It's all about where're yer lookin' ;)

I dont have any complaints about Vinyl. Granted it might get packed sometimes but the music cant be beat. Last month at Howells was perfect for anyone that was there. Also Shelter is bringing in alot of good dj's.

IMO, I think the "scene" is moving away from these superclubs and more towards the smaller places.....

forget EVERY other place in the city...take:

Vicious Friday

Tenaglia Friday

Peters Saturday

NONE of these guys are playing the same music...maybe a few songs here and there....and the parties themselves are TOTALLY different

throw in Centro, Shelter, Exit, Spa, Float, Saci, etc

throw in the rotation of DJs that come to NYC EVERY week

you have a pretty sick place to go every weekend.....not to be rude, but stop being spoiled for five minutes and realize that if you had the desire, you could go to a different bar/club on a friday and saturday EACH weekend of the year and never have to double up if you didnt want to

Imagine how the rest of the country has it...In South Padre I met kids from the Midwest who had no idea what Diesel sneakers were...they dont have clubs, they dont have the clothes we have....etc

maybe NYC isnt what everyone claims it "used to be", but then again, you dont HAVE to go clubbin EVERY single night of EVERY single week/weekend.....anything you do too much gets boring....even sex:D

yo i hear what you guys are saying....my thoughts pertained to the large clubbing experience,,,not the smaller spots...like my post says i like clubbing by the masses....

and i dont go out every weekend...i go out about once or twice a month....

"History tends to repeat itself. Clubs close clubs open, people complain. A new club opens then becomes the in club and gets too packed and prices go up, people complain. A club closes for whatever reason, people complain. Underground becomes mainstream, people complain, then a new sound is underground and then becomes mainstream, people complain... An international DJ goes to a different club, people complain. See a pattern?" -swchwingep

Ditto.

Sometimes we take NYC for granted. Think about those folks in Iowa or Kansas, sitting home on a Friday night.... Although it seems like quality has gone down, there's always something for someone.

humor me and just play along. it sounds trite and i'm in one of

my moods, so here goes.

there are much to complain about, least of all, the clubbing

selection in ANY city, from ANY era.

in the grand scheme of things, clubbing is just to pass the time,

to hang with your friends, to let loose, to LOSE yourself in the

music, to feel free and uninhibited by the other demands and

constraints of your daily life, to feel the bass that beats in

synchronicity with the organ that's called your heart, to hear the

melody that lifts your whole being into a feeling of floaty

transcendence (i won't even mention to get cracked out, to get

wild and crazy, to hook up with the opposite sex)...it can be

for ANY of the reasons stated, but the point here is that it's

all a momentary escape. we all have our fair share and are all

guilty of taking part in that, myself included, whether it is

indulging in music or indulging in a $200 bottle of wine or

materialistic possessions.

point here is that a complaint about anything indulging or

the lack of flavor of a particular "indulgence" bears no merit.

aren't we so lucky to be able to complain about the luxuries in

life.

(of course, i'm writing this as i'm drinking my $1,500 bottle of

Louis xii cognac in my $500 Tiffany glass sitting on my $3,000,

leather chair on a $15,000 persian rug in a $4,500/mo soho loft,

complaining about the fact that i can't afford the $2,000 bottle of

cognac, $800 glass...)

i realize you're just shooting the breeze with that statement, and

while i empathize with that statement, in the grand scheme of

things....well, you know how the saying goes.

just shooting the breeze back at'cha.

erhm, that was to be read with sarcasm there, buddy. lol.

the truth? i was abducted by mugz' alien cahoots. they mistook me with my conehead and hairless cabeza and brows and

flatnose to be one of their own and beamed me up upon hearing

rustling in the forest, and unbeknownst to them at the time, they

ended up inadvertenly leaving E.T. behind since i filled out their

headcount. ::rolleyes:: who says aliens are more intelligent

beings?

NYC isn't losing clubs. NYC is losing VIBE.

Vinyl has it but it's nowhere near what it was and it's fading fast.

I'm sure other places have it as well but people dont remember Twilo for the poofy couches, nicely built bars and VIP area.

We need that feeling back in NYC. It's becoming stagnant.

We need a new home.
