Eminem Is So Gay...

Recommended Posts

Well... I guess there aren't many exceptions in pop (meaning "popular") music... but I was actually pleasantly surprised when I listened to Ani DiFranco with my ex the first time. Not my style of music, but I thought the lyrics were very thoughtful and witty... not bad. I think generally "chick" music does a better job of keeping a level head... though the state of affairs there is still pretty sad.

Ani Defranco is a very talented and sensual woman. I put her up there with Tori Amos with her ability to captivate an audience with real soulful music.

My I.Q.

by Ani DiFranco

when I was four years old

they tried to test my I.Q.

they showed me a picture

of 3 oranges and a pear

they asked me,

which one is different?

it does not belong

they taught me different is wrong

but when I was 13 years old

I woke up one morning

thighs covered in blood

like a war

like a warning

that I live in a breakable takeable body

an ever-increasingly valuable body

that a woman had come in the night to replace me

deface me

see,

my body is borrowed

I got it on loan

for the time in between my mom and some maggots

I don't need anyone to hold me

I can hold my own

I got highways for stretchmarks

see where I've grown

I sing sometimes

like my life is at stake

'cause you're only as loud

as the noises you make

I'm learning to laugh as hard

as I can listen

'cause silence

is violence

in women and poor people

if more people were screaming then I could relax

but a good brain ain't diddley

if you don't have the facts

we live in a breakable takeable world

an ever available possible world

and we can make music

like we can make do

genius is in a back beat

backseat to nothing if you're dancing

especially something stupid

like I.Q.

for every lie I unlearn

I learn something new

I sing sometimes for the war that I fight

'cause every tool is a weapon -

if you hold it right.

This was the first Ani song I ever heard. The part about "they taught me different is wrong" completely blew my mind. She's very intelligent. Too bad thought doesn't sell as well as sex and cars.

Ani di franco is musically, politically, emotionally, poetically, and socially brilliant. comparing her to tori amos is almost insulting.

Coming Up

our father who art in a penthouse

sits in his 37th floor suite

and swivels to gaze down

at the city he made me in

he allows me to stand and

sollicit graffiti until

he needs the land I stand on

I in my darkened threshold

am pawing through my pockets

the receipts, the bus schedules

the matchbook phone numbers

the urgent napkin poems

all of which laundering has rendered

pulpy and strange

loose change and a key

ask me

go ahead, ask me if I care

I got the answer here

I wrote it down somewhere

I just gotta find it

I just gotta find it

somebody and their spraypaint got too close

somebody came on too heavy

now look at me made ugly

by the drooling letters

I was better off alone

ain't that the way it is

they don't know the first thing

but you don't know that

until they take the first swing

my fingers are red and swollen from the cold

I'm getting bold in my old age

so go ahead, try the door

it doesn't matter anymore

I know the weakhearted are strongwilled

and we are being kept alive

until we're killed

he's up there the ice

is clinking in his glass

I don't ask

I just empty my pockets and wait

it's not fate

it's just circumstance

I don't fool myself with romance

I just live

phone number to phone number

dusting them against my thighs

in the warmth of my pockets

which whisper history incessantly

asking me

where were you

I lower my eyes

wishing I could cry more

and care less,

yes it's true,

I was trying to love someone again,

I was caught caring,

bearing weight

but I love this city, this state

this country is too large

and whoever's in charge up there

had better take the elevator down

and put more than change in our cup

or else we

are coming

up

I actually like Styles and Sheek better than Jada. Jada's got talent, but his album wasn't all that great. He spit fire on so many guest appearances and previous LOX albums, then his solo album dropped and was ehhhhhhhh...I'm really waitin for Styles to drop though, that "good Times" joint is hectic!

Oh very nice. Some middle school kids called; they want their delivery back.

And while you're on the phone with them blondie, have them come over your house and dislodge that Mag-Lite that you so conveniently got stuck in your ass last night while fucking sheep down at old Mr. McVickers farm.

Oh sure I have no problem laughing, the problem is that you're just not funny. Stop stealing jokes from Sesame Street and you might get a little chuckle out of me.

I think eminem is really the first rapper to go into a status of fame like hammer and vannilla ice. From the underground he used to be featured on stretch and bobitto freestyling lyrics fromhis first album months before it came out. Then I heared that song; I could careless about for comment about moby. It's just the song in general didn't seem like his shit, I thought he sold himself out b/c of shit he's been going through about little kids looking up to him. but just before driving back from spa (which had sick hip hop for a tuesday night) we were listening to the album and it is SICK... some insane shit

I just skimmed through the other posts not really reading them but I read JayZ's name somewhere...Queensbridge ;)
