Yea..

Well I'm sure by now everyone

knows where I stand on THIS topic...

See my thing is this..

I COULD CARE LESS IF YA

SHOW UP IN A TUXEDO IF I'M

WORKING THE DOOR AT A PARTY

OR A POTATO SACK...

As long as you don't put

others down for not looking

like you...or have a bad "I'm

too cool for you" attitude..

as long as you are there for the "music"

and to have fun with EVERY TYPE OF CLUBBER

YOU ARE O.K IN MY BOOK!

(But that's just me!)

But lord knows NYC has

enough VIP tone deaf fassion victims

a plenty.....

IN ANY CASE I WAS JUST WONDERING

WHAT YOU PREFER?

A VENUE/PARTY

FULL OF PRETTY PEOPLE

DRESSED NICE..?

or

A CARE FREE ENVIRONMENT

WITHOUT DRESSCODES OR RULES?

HELL NO

I want MUSIC, I want to DANCE, and I want to be comfortable.

I don't go out to impress people.

I don't go out to pick up women (or men either :P)

I don't go out because it's "cool."

If I can't DANCE comfortably, I don't wanna be there... to me that means sneakers and shorts or loose pants...

But you know what? That's okay -- there are places in NYC for all types of people... thankfully the "dressed up" crowd tends to passionately dislike the places I go, and vice versa... so as long as my favorite spots don't change their dress code, I'm happy!

That's the thing though...

How about when the people you

use to love listen to spin records start to play

at places that ONLY cater to

the "Dresscode crowds"?

What if the DRESSCODE

kills all the places you grew up in

because you never jumped on

the GUIDO band wagon..?

What if ALL music came

with a tag that read :

"Can only be listened to

if you are not wearing sneakers"

SHOULD LOOKS

DICTATE A SOUND?

(Lets face it...

Us old timers know what happened to House

and Trance..)

Who's to say what crowd a musician should cater to? If DT said tomorrow that he wants to spin at Cheetah from now on, I'd definitely be disappointed... but it's his show, and he can take it wherever he wants.

If DT left Arc and played

at a place with a strict

"Dress code" you bet some would

follow....But he'd loose many others..

As years would pass

(Perhaps a decade)

The new generations that discovered

him in that world wouldn't understand

when you'd point out that DT use

to have a party called "Be yourself"...

Where there was NO dress code.

That's exactly the scene now

with a million places..

All the new kids

never got a taste of the

past....

And other old schoolers

gave in or got amnesia

and now frown at the more

relaxed venues that have

a CARE FREE enviornment.

NYC has become

a snobby city for

phoney hoochies and

tone deaf guidos

that couldn't tell the difference

between PVD or ODB..

Breaks or Trance..

And everyone's just

too sedated to give two

shits other wise...

(shrugz)

once again..

This survey is not

about WHAT YOU LIKE TO

WEAR OUT...

But about WHAT CLUBS

WANT YOU TO WEAR OUT

IN ORDER TO ENTER!

And even if some

of you could care less who's

on the decks..

a large percentage DO!

And some of those people

(in my opinion) shouldn't have

to go change who they

are in order to listen to music

they love...

WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Umm... Maudy... what we LIKE to wear out is necessarily tied to what DRESS CODE we'll tolerate. One can be deduced from the other.

I definitely DO care who's on the decks, but since getting dressed up means I wouldn't be able to dance as much as I'd like, I'd probably pass on seeing one of my favorite DJs if dress code were enforced...

to answer your question more thoroughly:

i don't care what people are wearing as long as they are dancing energetically and enjoying themselves.

the thing is that a goodly portion of the clientelle i see out at places where people "dress to impress" don't like to sweat into their pretty, expensive clothing so they don't dance and sit around drinking/snorting/flirting instead (what else is there to do if you aren't dancing)... therefore, those places lack the VIBE that i seek and tend to find at the clubs where no one cares if they sweat into their clothing because it's not all "dry clean only"...

it all depends on where im going if the venue i choose to to i'll get dress up,but its so different for guys than it is for girls guys just throw on slacks and considered it dressed but for a girl you have to throw on heels and you can't dance

a club is a money making business. as much as places want to bring in talented dj's and want people to enjoy themselves, they want people to spend money.

the nicer the dress, the more they can charge for drinks. people dont wanna pay 12$ for a cosmo in a plastic cup @ a place where people are jumping around in dirty jeans.

i dunno, i would prefer to go to a place without a dress code, this way people can "be themselves" but i wont let a dress code stop me from going where i want to go.

The older I get..

The more I like to chill and "LISTEN"

(though I still do "stomp" once in a while

I prefer to go on a mind trip on the

side lines more these days)

I find that the Dresscodes do

more than dictate dancing in a club..

It dictates expensive drinks,

Tighter more suspiciouse security

(of anyone that isn't all "G"d up)

and really snotty bitches that think they

fell off the "I'm so fucking hot that only someone

with a giant wallet in their underwear can

talk to me" bandwagon.

I've even heard some hoochies of

this nature at a club of this type

in a conversation that went like this:

Hooch one: "Like who's this playing music?"

Hooch two: "Like I don't know..

Isn't this like Moby?"

Hooch one "Naaaw waaay.Moby plays House.

This is someone else..Who cares,

lets go find some hot guy that has blow."

Hooch two: "Yea all these kids dancing are pissing

me off."

Depends where I'm heading. If I'm going somewhere to dance, almost never (I'll try to get away with the minimum of the dress code if there is one), but if I'm going to schmooze (which happens too much in my profession), then I better dress right...

When in Rome...
