Man Killed by Metro Train

Incident Causes Red Line Delays

Washington Post Staff Writer

Friday, September 13, 2002; 9:59 AM

A man died this morning when he jumped onto the tracks at Washington’s Union Station.

The incident happened shortly after 8 a.m. when an unidentified man jumped onto the tracks and was hit and killed by a train bound for Shady Grove.

Union Station remains open while the investigation continues but Metro is experience delays of up to 20 minutes up and down the Red Line.

A friend of mine's father used to work for Metro. He said there are suicides/jumpers all the time, but they generally try to keep it quiet whenever possible. Usually they just do that train delayed due to sick passenger or broken train excuse.

Yeah. That seriously happens all the time.

It's really sad. It's really sad when anybody kills themself, but I guess the rail-jumpers are trying to affect as many people as possible with their final shi-bang.

i have no sympathy. if they're gonna act that inconsiderate and selfish toward not only the train driver but the thousands of people who have places to be, then they really should do society a favor and DIE.
